Summary: Something of a let-down
Review: I have to admit that when I first began reading this book I thought I would enjoy it immensely. Unfortunately, as the story progressed, it soon turned into yet another literary clone (I did like this book the first time I read it... when it was titled "Bridget Jones's Diary"). This story, however, is merely a knock off. The "leading man" is nothing more than a Mark Darcy clone (handsome, rich, successful, at first scornful, then loving, etc.) and the supporting cast flighty (if not altogether unnecessary... what WAS the point of her roommate's second cousin... who shows up in one scene, says nothing, and is never mentioned again?) Although I enjoyed the neurosis of the shopping stories and especially Becky's humorous attempt at secondary employment, the ending, proved to be disappointingly formulatic and tremendously unrealistic, with the ensuing romance seeming unlikely and forced. Overall, a very disappointing book.

Summary: Quick Read - but so true
Review: I enjoyed this book. It was a light quick read for a lazy afternoon. I must admit, I saw a lot of myself in the book. Perhaps I'm a shopaholic and never realized it. Unfortunately, I couldn't give it five stars because I could put it down. It just didn't have the hook I had hoped for, it seemed to lack something. The characters were amusing and fun, but I couldn't seem to root for them very easily. The main character is fun and smart, but she seemed to lack the realness I had thought she would have. On the whole though, it was light and fun, nothing too serious.

Summary: great read!
Review: This book was a fantastic read! It is so easy to relate to Rebecca's frustration with debt and how she is afraid she'll never get out of it. I highly recommend this twenty-something single career woman book. It reminded me a lot of Bridget Jones and Jemima J. There were times when I would laugh out loud or roll my eyes!

Summary: Funny, familiar book for the ladies
Review: Today I felt like Becky Bloomwood. There's workmen sanding and leveling the walkway by the entrance to my apartment. I'm trapped inside. When it gets quiet, I peek out the door and race for the car. Once on the road, I hit every red light and turn down one street finding a 3-car accident blocking the road. I'm having a partial anxiety attack in my car. Too many things are trying to stop me from getting to the mall!

The title called to me, the description had me. At 25, Becky Bloomwood is a laughable shopaholic (I've heard of worse cases that were NOT fiction). She shares a posh London flat with her great friend Suze and works as a financial journalist, of all things, for "Successful Savings" magazine. Hating her job and having no love interests, Becky's life IS shopping. She quickly finds herself in serious debt, avoiding calls and letters from her creditors, and realizes she needs help. Dad's advise: C.B. or M.M.M. Cut Back or Make More Money. Becky's unsuccessful attempts at both are a riot, although you pity her. She eventually starts trusting the advice she's been giving to others.

Sophie Kinsella's main character is wonderfully quirky and complex. She's mostly an optimist but has a very low view of herself in the world of high finance. Becky gets herself into some humiliating situations and made me laugh out loud at the rationale for some of her spending-sprees. Some sounded very familiar. She comes up with some really creative, but temporary solutions to her credit problems, but let's not give too much away. You just have to read it yourself!

Sadly, I buzzed through this book in only 27-hours; just couldn't put it down for too long. I actually resented having to go to work - I wanted to stay home and read! Much of the London lingo was foreign to me but didn't take away from the story. It's easy to figure out. I asked a friend about the currency. One pound is about $1.50 dollars. A "quid" is slang for pound, like a "buck" is slang for dollar. We should all know that the "loo" is the bathroom. This one threw me: "pissed" doesn't mean angry in England, it means drunk! Hope it helps.

Summary: laugh out loud comedy
Review: this was a truly entertaining read. i can always turn to this book when i go overboard shopping, i will never do it as bad as she does. but, it is a very inspiring book, showing how a person can be in terrible debt and then make a great career as a financial advisor...ironic, but very funny all the way through. and she gets the guy!! what can get better than that.

Summary: Easy To Relate
Review: This book was a very good book...for a light, easy-to-read story. I can relate to the main character who shops and shops and shops...to celebrate and to mourn. The story does go beyond shopping and has a bit of a plot. It's very funny and a must read for anyone who's been prone to overshop.

Summary: ho hum fun
Review: I WISH THIS BOOK had more shopping involved. There were some boring parts like when she visits her parents (yawn). I was looking forward to a book about uncontrollable shopping but it was a book more about jobs, roomates, parents, social and love life and it's these things that drive her to be a shopaholic. NOT ENOUGH FASHION :(. But I read it twice and the second time around I laughed out loud at the character she is adorable once u know her. I also didn't like the fact that the scene is in LONDON where I can't relate :(. Wish it took place HERE in the U. S. daym.

Summary: Laughing out loud
Review: This book had me laughing out loud from the first page. Every woman who loves to shop should read this book. And if you don't love to shop you should read it anyway as it is halarious! Most of the book reminded me of a British version of a Saturday Night Live skit. Full applause goes to Sophie Kinsella, bravo!

Summary: Shop till you drop!
Review: Shopaholic is a funny page turner, you will be shocked with some of the antics that goes on in this book. Rebecca is a compulsive-obessive shopper, she loves to spend money. As you read this you will say to yourself, " I can't believe she said or do this". She is in debt up to her ears but she find any and every excuse to keep on buying. She has a full-time job but she goes and gets a part-time job to help pay her bills. (Not) She justs buys more. In the end you will be cheering Rebecca on, as she tries to put her life back on track.

Summary: I am a shopaholic but...
Review: I'm a shopaholic and I really liked Bridget Jones' Diary, but this book was a bad clone of the aforementioned book. The main character was not very interesting and the writing itself was not very good (it was several steps below that of Bridget Jones' Diary). The best thing I can say is that it's a fast read and, if you're an anglophile, you might be somewhat amused by it.
