Rating: Summary: If you loved Bridget Jones... Review: ...you'll love Rebecca Bloomwood. This book is by no means a clone of Bridget Jones's Diary, but it has the same first-person intimacy and Becky is a character that most of us can relate to as she goes from blithe denial to finally accepting responsibility for her money woes. If you've been to Credit Card City and taken that long walk back--or if you just want a light, fun read with more than a couple of laugh out loud moments--buy this book before you go on your next budget. And keep an eye on Sophie Kinsella, this is a writer you'll want to read more of!
Rating: Summary: Did Ms. Kinsella write a book about my life? Review: Although this novel was hilarious in some parts, I felt I was reading my diary. Goodness, I wonder how many other women out there felt that way! I'm passing this book on to my 'shopaholic' buddies. =)
Rating: Summary: Insultingly bad Review: I'd rate this novel on the level of a Danielle Steel novel where unrealistic expectations of finding a solution to the "money problem" are just as unrealistic as finding the "perfect love." One of the few books I've read where I want both my money and time spent reading it back. Shopping as addiction isn't all that amusing and the writing was of poor quality. I kept hoping it was a parody, but no such luck. And what's with the ending??? Since when does more money really spell the end of all our worries? If given no self control, most will spent above their income limit, whatever it may be. Does that mean we're in for a sequel? Hope not.
Rating: Summary: look out bridget jones Review: I think you've met your match! In the tradition of "Bridget Jones" ms Kinsella has created another almost smart, british airhead who finds herself in crazy, improbable situations. Also like Bridget Jones, you can't help but like the story, as she looses all her money and credit, and has to work her way back to financial security. All the while her hair, clothes, and love life are much more important. At least she finds a financially stable man who seems to really care for her. This was a quick, cutesy read that I enjoyed despite myself.
Rating: Summary: Refreshing--I loved it! Review: Sophie Kinsella did a fantastic job with Confessions. I loved the characters because they seemed fairly realistic but funnier than people I know. The constant stresses of debt, career, and love were humorously and creatively touched on. I loved that this book made virtually no mention of weight or appearance but simply dealt with the universal, but not stereotypical, concerns of a modern woman. I'd recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: The Audrey Hepburn of Novels Review: I LOVED this book. What more can I say except READ IT. I have been looking for a book like this for a very long time. I read Bridget Jones's Diary (kind of on the same wavelength as Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic)...and that was okay, but this one definitely takes the cake.
Rating: Summary: Funny enough to make my eyes t Review: Those of us with real spending problems will appreciate Becky Bloomwood. Her shopping is far enough out of control that an entire novel could discuss it without once becoming boring. Many of us (ahem) have been guilty of the lies to ourselves about our debts and our needs and our rationalizations. We recognize Becky in ourselves. However, the seriousness of the problem is painted so comically that we don't put down the book with guilt when we recognize ourselves. The tone is droll, and while it's not a heart-stopping thriller, the reader continues, wanting to know how Becky gets herself out of each new mess! Becky surprises the reader with the way she gets out of each disaster -- it's all about finding her niche, and not the easy way out. Kinda leaves me with some hope for my own credit. This was a wonderful book, read in an afternoon and worth sharing. (If I share it, then the purchase is justified as half price, right?)
Rating: Summary: Fun to read, fairy tale ending Review: It was a fun book to read, but the ending was silly.
Rating: Summary: A Great Light Read Review: For those of you out there who have known the "urge to splurge" this is a book that no only you will relate to, but it will make you laugh outloud. The adventures in this book are hysterical and remind me of Bridget Jones, but in my opinion, are funnier. If you are looking for a light summer read, with comedy and a little romance and disaster sprinkled in you will love this one!
Rating: Summary: So Funny! Review: What a fun book! Better than Bridget Jones, so much more related to real life. What woman hasn't shopped her heart out, or craved a piece of designer clothing (or an accessory) and bought it regardless of the financial consequences?! Becky is a great character, very honest and funny. The inner dialogues she has with herself when rationalizing her purchases (or any other blunder for that matter) echos those of myself and my girlfriends every time we visit the shops. I've passed this book on to several friends and they've all laughed out loud as I did when I read it. It's a great summer read, have fun!
