Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: I was so pleasantly surprised when I picked up this book last year and starting reading it. I thought it was just a silly beach read, and figured I would read a few pages just to say that I had given it a try, and then give it back to my sister to return to her friend. I loved it! The character is just so outrageous in parts of it! Sure it might not be the most realistic book in the world, but look at the title - does it say War and Peace??I felt that, considering the subject matter, it was VERY well done. I was so excited to find out that a sequel to it just came out - that one went right on my wishlist. If you shop, and as some other reviewers put it, sometimes feel guilty about overdoing it, this is absolutely the book for you! It's a little fluffy, but if I owned a copy, it would never be on the shelf - I would constantly be passing it around to people. Not your typical 'British bachelorette drinks and shops' book - I liked this one SO much more than Bridget Jones.
Rating: Summary: If you've ever been pre-approved for credit, read this! Review: Rebecca Bloomwood is a financial journalist who ironically hides from her bank. She can't stop shopping even as threatening notices from her bank keep arriving in the mail. She writes about topics she doesn't practice. She tries though. When she reads that taking coffee to the office in a thermos will save her money (a classic bit of personal finance advice that we have all heard), she starts thinking about where can she buy a cute little thermos -- does Gucci make a thermos? Rebecca spirals deeper into debt, hiding her problems from friends, family, colleagues and the bank, feeling like a fraud --- until one day her neighbors get bilked and she might be able to help if she ever gets herself together. Told in a light entertaining style, the reader feels Rebecca's pain that her eyes are bigger than her salary and the fear that she might ruin herself forever if she doesn't turn herself around soon.
Rating: Summary: Shopping is a girl's prerogative! Review: I have a confession, I'm a shopaholic too! Although, my budget doesn't allow me to buy quite as frivolously as Rebecca. This book is like an all day shopping spree that unfortunately includes payment! It also has that fabulously dry Brit humor. Becky creates all sorts of schemes to save money and just gets herself deeper in debt. These desperate measures are hilarious and the heroine is endearing. So, go buy yourself a Hermes scarf along with this book and get ready for a decadent read!
Rating: Summary: A great read for anyone who spends more than they make! Review: A great book for those of us who can't seem to keep within our budget. If you love Prada and Gucci and designer wear but just can't seem to afford it, then you will be able to relate to Becky! A story of love and balancing your checkbook!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but not thought provoking Review: If you're seeking a book that you can enjoy without conjuring up brain cells, this is it. The heroine, Rebecca Bloomwood is an extremely lovable character that definitely has the "girl next door" feel. She makes you laugh out loud, cringe, and cry at all of her crazy antics involving her obsession with shopping. Women all over the world can easily identify with her without being exactly alike. This book is perfect to curl up on an empty Saturday morning with a cup of tea (avoid the expensive cappuccino)! And it also includes some helpful advice on how to cut back money - what a find! A hilarious read with self help tips in one!
Rating: Summary: Make a friend Review: This book was fantastic. I know you know the plot from all the other reviews so I'm just going to say how I felt about it. I'm the type of person who enjoys artistic, deeply thought out books and movies. This is not one of those books - but I loved it anyway! I felt like I was there with Bex, like she was my friend. I walked her through every chapter, and laughed out loud and all the situations I found her in. I let my mother borrow it, saying she absoultely HAD to read it...my mother is not a reader, but she loved this book. When I went to London, I found myself in all the places I read about in the book, and throughout my stay I made sure to look for the places I missed in the beginning. I read it again on the flight home, simply because I had so much fun the first time. It was just as much fun the second. Lay back, read it, and throw your head back and laugh from the heart. It just feels good.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever!!! Review: Confessions of A Shopaholic is the BEST book I have ever read. So many people can relate. Rebecca Bloomwood is a true shopaholic in BAD debt. She always reasons with herself with ridiculous excuses why she should buy this and buy that. She tries to adapt more frugal ways but it is impossible. Read this book!!!
Rating: Summary: READ THIS BOOK!!! Review: If you have ever known the allure of buying something you didn't need. Felt the yearning for a pair of shoes, a skirt, sunglasses, or purse & had to have it no matter what the cost. Like to shop in stores with a SALE! sign in the window just because there's a sale, you will absolutely LOVE this novel. It's a hilarious story about a financial journalist named Rebecca Bloomwood and her addiction to shopping. I have to say it's the most amusing book I've read in a long time. It had me laughing out loud. After reading the first few chapters, I was captivated & had to finish it the day I got it from the library. Then, I went out and bought it for 2 of my friends who also love to shop. Don't miss out on this witty read, it will have you rolling on the floor.
Rating: Summary: my shopping journal Review: This book was hilarious and real! The way she dodged her creditors and really tried to STOP shopping really hit home. It truely gave me the feeling that there are those in the same sinking boat as me. It's hard to go in the mall and NOT buy anything. Buy this book if for nothing else but to comfort you!
Rating: Summary: shopaholic Review: I thought this book was fabulous! It was like reading a autobiograhy! i can't wait for the sequel
