Summary: funny
Review: I didn't take the book so seriously...*I* liked Rebecca because even though she is a larger-than-life exaggerated twenty-something, there are still many truths most of us share. Really, how many of us have not wanted to open our Visa statements? How many of us BELIEVED we would win the lotto and be saved financially (or at least had good fun spending the money in our heads). How many of us buy things to cheer us up? The book isn't perfect, but i didn't expect it to be. It's a fun read.

Review: Great book! Definitely hard to put down...I finished it in a few days. Fun story line! I am excited to purchase its sequel tomorrow!

Summary: Why is this book not funny?
Review: I just don't get it. Why should we like Rebecca? She is not only an uncontrollable shopaholic, but she is an uncontrollable liar. She is continually lying to her boyfriend, her roommate, her parents, her employers... it's not funny, it's pathetic. I don't think that this concept - a young woman who can't pay her bills because she is obsessed with clothing and shopping - so much that she lies to everyone - is enough to fuel one book, let alone two. What am I missing here?

Summary: Thank goodness I am not alone!
Review: Even though this book is 'fiction', I feel asthough Sophie Kinsella has read my mind! I read "Shopaholic" over a weekend, and I never laughed more! It's a fun read, especially if you have had problems controlling spending. The subject, Becky Bloomwood, seems so hapless you just keep rooting for her. At times you also may wish to smack her, for seeming lack of sense....but haven't we all 'been there'? I highly recommend this.

Summary: One of the most fun books ever
Review: This is a light hearted book that is just silly and entertaining. I would highly recommend both this book and it's sequel. Keeping my fingers crossed for #3!

Summary: I can almost relate
Review: A great book for any one who loves to shop, who has made some horrible decisions with money, jobs, men, etc. Very amusing. I laughed out loud at least 20 times...I also enjoyed Shopaholic takes Manhattan, the sequel.

Summary: Fun, Silly book 3.5 stars
Review: This was a book I was not planning to read, but heard so many raves for it that curiosity got the best of me.

This is a fun, funny book about the trials and tribulations of a full fledged compulsive obsessive shopper! Becky Bloomwood, ironically a financial journalist for a money management magazine, cannot control her urge to shop! She NEEDS everything and her mind doesn't rest until she gets it.

Becky is a bit flighty, but she is also humorous, and has such an addictive way of looking at things and at rationalizing her spending. Her relationship with her friends, family, and would be male relationships are less than satisfying. She continues to take, take, take from her roommate without ever offering anything in return. And she wracks up insurmountable debt from cover to nearly cover, until she begins to turn the situation around. She finally gets passionate about something other than shopping, and that is what makes all the difference. She also wins the heart of her "crush" and that is where we are left.

This book is not deep, or even thick with a plot. It is just a lot of fun when you are in need of mindless, effortless entertainment. I am definitely going to read the sequel, but read these books in tandem with another book. That way, depending on my mood I have Becky Bloomwood's rollercoaster shopping/spending sprees to look forward to when I need a good laugh anf guaranteed fun.

Summary: 3.5 stars for silly fun
Review: I resisted reading this book for a long time simply because I thought it would be silly and not very interesting. But so many people raved about it that I decided to give it a try. I love the Brit Lit genre, and assumed this would fall into that category. As it sort of does.

Becky was not as likeable a character as, say Bridget Jones, or Jemima J. She is self absorbed, flighty and manic! But yet she is addictive, and so are her plights and emotional rollercoasters about her shopping addiction and the financial implications. I am not a shopaholic, and yet I found myself relating on some level to her cyclical buying, spending and then lamenting over how much she spent. And then of course hiding the bills -- out of sight out of mind!

This book is pretty shallow, but it is loads of fun. I read it in conjunction with another book so that if I didn't feel like heavy reading I could pick this one up. And by the end I have to admit I was cheering for Becky and happy that she landed herself where she did (without giving anything away).

This book is not as fulfilling or plot focused as other brit lit, but it is equally as fun and as addictive. If I were to choose, I would go with any Marian Keyes, Jane Green or Lisa Jewell book over this. But this one IS a lot of fun. And a good way to brush up on brand names and fashion trends! It made me want to go shopping!

Summary: Um, Do You Like To Laugh?
Review: Ok, I have two confessions to make. One: I am a shopaholic + in many ways this book was painful (I'm not kidding). Second: I had never laughed outloud at a book before until this one (And now my roommate thinks I'm crazy).
Well being a shopaholic, I've wanted to read this book for a while, but I haven't had the time (too busy shopping, ya know?). Anyway this book is absolutely hysterical. The predicaments that the main character gets herself into, are just sooo funny. Ok I loved Rebecca Bloomwood, I thought she was a great character, really believable. A lot of people might think she was shallow or self-absorbed. But isn't everybody at times? And if you say no, you're just lying, and you're not fooling anyone. It's so obvious. And anyways she has her deep moments, I will defend a fellow shopaholic to the death (real, fictional, it doesn't matter).
Anyways, this story is a lot like a fairytale, you know there will be a happy ending. The excitement is on seeing the trials and tribulations that Rebecca goes through. And they are funny as hell. Seriously, if you have a sense of humor you will love this book. If you love to shop and have a sense of humor about it you will absolutely adore and treasure this book.

Summary: Before shopping too much, take a look at this book!!
Review: I bought this book simply because I've never read books about shopping addiction. But after reading it, you'll find out(Just like me) that shopping addiction is just...well, terrible.

Becky Bloomwood, the main character of this novel, is seriously addicted to shopping. While reading it, not only did I laugh out loud, but also keep wondering, "Why can't she just buy less??? Will she STOP wasting her money anyway???" But this is what makes the book interesting. Kinsella took us to a journey through Becky's mind, and that makes all of us stop to consider about our "bad" shopping habits. Quite a light reading, enjoy it.
