Rating: Summary: Shopaholic Review: My friend let me borrow this book of hers because it's her favorite! Well, thanks to her it's mine too! I can totally relate to Becky Bloomwood about shopping, cept that I'm not in debt and she is a little overboard....lol! I love how no matter what obstacle there is, she will always find a way to shop! She's run into soo many things and when she least expects it, she gets what she wants! She lacks off on her job and has no clue how to do it but when she takes time off, she understands everything! I think everyone should read this book, cause I can't even tell you what a great book it is!! I can't wait to read the sequel, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan...It's the next book on my reading list and this time shes coming to my town!
Rating: Summary: Loved it & the sequel too! Review: I bought Shopaholic on a day that I bought about 5 other books of it's kind (single girl in the big city books). But this once stood out- I found myself blushing and having to put the book down to giggle. I read it in one long day and then read "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" the next day. Although the second isn't as good (similar plot line) I enjoyed it too and read it as quickly. They are great summer reads! If you like these books give "Jemina J" and "Mr. Maybe" a try also, they were very funny and light.
Rating: Summary: Too funny and too true! Review: Firstly, though the character of Rebecca is somewhat of a loser (because of all the lying), I really related to her (I hate getting my credit card bills, too!!) Secondly, because her character is so relatable (like the character of "Heartbreaker"), she really resonates well with the reader. We've all has those fantasies of hitting it rich or whatever. And we've all had tons of fun spending money we simply didn't have. Maybe this book is more of a cautionary tale than anything, but I truly enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Decent, funny read Review: Confessions Of A Shop-a-holic reminded me a lot of Bridget Jones' Diary. Becky and Bridget are a lot alike: flaky, funny British women who end up getting their guy. But Bridget is more introspective and reflects on what she's done wrong, and she isn't manipulative like Becky. Also, I couldn't really relate to the character's problem of shopping addiction, because I hate shopping! Especially for clothes. Total misery. But a good point is that a lot of other women (I guess I'm not a typical female) will be able to relate to it.Even though I couldn't relate to her compulsive shopping, this book did get some genuine laughs and cringes from me. Sophie Kinsella has a way of putting you inside the story, so you feel as though you're watching the action. On the downside, Confessions was predictable at times and the light-hearted, fast-paced tone got old. But I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice distraction book to read, and it really is quite funny. :)
Rating: Summary: A Hilarious Read! Review: The day my friend told me about this book, I knew there was something about it that would make me want to read it really badly. Of course! I mean like, I love to shop (even though I don't do it a lot)! But my only problem is, is that when I shop, I get a lot of expensive things or i spend too much in a day. I thought this book may make me realize the dangers of my spending habits. Boy was I right! I loved this book! Rebecca's ditzy, amiable and fashionable personality was also a plus to this book! In some cases she reminded me of me. The only thing is, I don't have any credit cards to pay off. I also loved how the setting was in London. That's so high-fashion-like. And, the British terms in the book were cool! But anyway, as you keep reading, you will notice a change in Rebecca's personality. It gives the book a nice touch. I totally recommend this book to people 13-14 and up. Just watch out for the language.
Rating: Summary: Becky Bloomwood...is crazy...you gotta love her! Review: All I could think of when I read this book as well as "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" was that these are the two best novels I have EVER read! Bravo to Sophie Kinsella she is brilliant in how she covers the dramaticness behind the addiction of shopping. It was her writings that made me want to write a novel myself, which I have now started. Thank you Sophie!
Rating: Summary: Suprisingly Good Review: I don't know what Helen Fielding has started, but it seems to be big. Since Bridget Jones came out there seem to be a mulititude of ... knock-offs like Jemima J and Getting Over It. So, when my roommate gave me Confessions of a Shopaholic I was pretty sure it would be another lame attempt at the Brit Chick genre. I actually thought that it would be the worst one yet since it dealt with something as trivial as shopping. However, I have to admit that Sophie Kinsella really suprised me with this one. It was actually funny! At times Becky was a bit too much with her pathological lying, but Kinsella was still able to make her likeable. It doesn't quite top Bridget Jones, but it is certainly comparable in the amount of enjoyment I had reading it.
Rating: Summary: Funny & Cute Review: I bought this book on the advice of a friend, (who loved it). Shopaholic is a perfect light read for the beach!
Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud funny Review: I want Becky Bloomwood to be my best friend. The thoughts that race through her mind throughout the book are hillarious. Anybody who loves to shop MUST read this book.
Rating: Summary: Fun, fun, fun Review: This book is really fun! It probably won't change your life but it will make you laugh and brighten your day. It is a great book for the beach. A great summer read!
