Rating: Summary: I Loved This Book! Review: I really enjoyed this book. Sophie did an excellent job creating such a lovable shopaholic (Becky Bloomwood). I am anxious to read the sequel to this book! It was a fun book all the way through and then the last third of the book got very climactic and interesting. I couldn't read the last 100 pages fast enough and I even took it to work to finish it up more quickly (normally, I just read at home). I highly suggest you read this if you enjoy shopping or even if you enjoyed a book like Bridget Jones' Diary. Just like that book, I found myself rooting for the main character and I was right there with her during her emotional ups and downs. Now, stop reading this and buy Confessions of a Shopaholic!
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVERRRR! Review: I just love how Sophie Kinsella makes Becky Bloomwood's character so unavoidably loveable and laughable. I could not put this one down and so I found myself laughing out loud in public places. If I wasn't reading the book in public, I was thinking about it and of course, laughing out loud. The whole time, Becky makes confessions to us about her shopping problems. Oops- did I say problems? I meant investments... I mean, everything you buy has to be some kind of investment, right? I just laugh about her fascination with clothing, shoes, accesories... basically anything that sits in a shop and has a price tag. I don't know what it is about this particular book... it is so perfect throughout. I've reccomended it to everyone I know and do the same for you. You'll love it... and guess what?!?! There's a sequel... oh yes, the aventure continues! Buy this one, you'll love it (it's the best investment ever)! The only thing is, it will be hard to find a book this good after youve read it. I'm still trying!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fabulous! Review: One of my best friends gave me this book for my 18th birthday because shopping is my favorite thing to do, and I do it even when I don't have any money left. All my friends know that I'm a shopaholic. This book is hilarious! I was reading it on an airplane and laughing out loud. The book really explains Becky's emotions well- she knows she shouldn't buy the Denny and George scarf, but it is just SOO beautiful! I go through the same experiences any time that I enter a store. However, Becky is not just a shopper- she is smart and witty and knows how to get what she wants in life. She is very powerful and manipulative. She is a wonderful icon for any woman. I love this book, and recommend it to anyone-- buy lots of copies and give them to all of your friends!
Rating: Summary: What a Great Laugh Review: This book was recommended to me and I have to say that I absolutely adored it. Becky Bloomwood was a character that I could laugh at and learn from. Hopefully, if we're all lucky, there will be a lot more books about this character. I definitely recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Hopefully the first in a LONG series of Becky Bloomwoods! Review: This book was an excellent introduction to the life and times of Becky Bloomwood. It is excellent for any women who shops like it's her job, pretends like she can afford it, and lies to her love ones who question them. This book is good because you can follow it up with Shopaholic Takes Manhattan.. lets all keep our fingers crossed that Sophie Kinsella keeps the spirit of Becky alive and continues to bring her adventures to us shopaholics who need something else to do other than shop!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and entertaining Review: I found the book to be very funny, easy reading and it really gets you hooked. Read it every second I had of free time. I could really relate to Becky (specially in the compulsive shopping). Definetely a pick me up when you are down. I like the way she stands up for herself, does not let anyone run her over. I definetely loved going through all the adventures not knowing what to expect. I also loved the second book. Hope there is a third one.
Rating: Summary: Light and funny. Review: I made the mistake of reading these books in the wrong order. Luckily, it didn't make too much of a difference; I don't recommend it though. After reading her newest book; "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan", my expectations we're set in place. It's a quick, light read about the (mis)adventures of Becky Bloomwood. There were a number of times though that I found myself getting really annoyed with Becky. I even had to put it down a few times. Overall, the book was quite good, except for the ending. Even though I read them in the wrong order, her second book doesn't really continue where Becky left off. It's a good read for a Sunday afternoon.
Rating: Summary: Bridgett Jones Who? Review: Move over Bridgett Jones - we have a new "it" girl from England. Sophie Kinsella's Confessions of a Shopaholic is a MUST read for anyone who likes to shop or knows someone who does. Becky Bloomwood, financial journalist and shopper extraordinaire, has a big problem. A BIG line of credit and a very small paycheck. In addition, she can't seem to stop shopping. Told thru Becky's point of view as well as letters from the bank - Confessions is a can put it down kind of book. The reader, who instantly wants to take Becky under their wing and offer words of advice, is transported to Becky's dull day job as a financial reporter - copying press releases and going to one press conference after another, especially the ones run by the largest financial PR firm in London, Brandon Communications, run by the dashing Luke Brandon and his bitchy side-kicks. Becky tries to heed the advice of experts and friends and cut down on her unending spending, but falls victim to her own desires. Her uncontrollable shopping and creative responses to the debit collectors bring her nothing but trouble. Who hasn't had this problem? Just as Becky thinks her world is ending - she unsuccessfully tries to date her roommate's millionaire cousin, things turn around for Becky - but to find out how, you'll have to read the book! Confessions of a Shopaholic is great fun and a good beach or plane read. I can't wait for Sophie Kinsella to write more about Becky Bloomwood's adventures.
Rating: Summary: Simply Captivating Review: I spent today reading and finishing this. I absolutely loved it! Rebecca is a shopaholic. Whenever she passes a store, she must go in. If it's a sale, even better. She's also a journalist for a financial magazine. But while she writes about financial matters, her own are falling apart. She's starting to go into debt with her credit card habits. And she begins to follow her father's advice: CB or MMM. Cut back, or make more money. Both attempts add to the story's humor. There's also a bit of romance, and Rebecca's bank statements add to the hilariousity of the novel. It's altogether simply captivating.
Rating: Summary: I Confess: I Really Enjoyed This One Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic is fun, fun, fun--a lighthearted fairy tale about women who shop too much. I think most women will see at least a trace (and some much more than a trace) of themselves in Becky. She shops like crazy and rationalizes every overpriced purchase. Who hasn't bought something on sale thinking that they were actually saving money. (Unfortunately, when you read about Becky doing so, you'll see your logical lapse). Becky is a charming heroine, and Confessions of a Shopaholic is a fun and very funny read. There is not a speck of depth in the novel, so if you're looking for that, look elsewhere. This, like most romantic comedies of it's kind, is a just an enjoyable, engaging light read. Enjoy.
