Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down Review: Rarely have I picked up a book where I was unable to put it down until finished. This was such a book. The story was engaging and well written. It was thrilling, scary and thoroughly enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: This is indeed Koontz's best... Review: ...and among my favorite novels."Rushing toward her was a creature that had surely escaped from Hell. It let out a shriek of madness and rage." Watchers has it all. Smooth, entertaining plot that gets resolved in every way. Deep, origional, and believable characters. I felt for Travis and Nora. I laughed and loved with them. I also felt their fear, desperation, and sadness. I hated Vince. And he also pulls off, with amazing talent, the believeble character of Einstein--"Home is where the weeines are." Gotta love it. This book will grab you, pull you in, and not let you out until the end. It will leave you saying, "wow," and eagerly waiting for that rainy day to pick it up again. I'd recommend this book for those new to Koontz. It's an easy read, but by no means a simple book. If you're looking for dozens of plot lines, characters as deep as the Grand Canyon, and "crazy, mental" ideas ala Stephen King, this book will not provide. It will, however, tell you an awesome tale. Both Stephen King and Dean Koontz are wonderful authors, but it would be comparing apples to oranges. Beyond that, unlike most of King's novels, parents can give this book to a relitively mature child--there's minimal sex and language (compare that to King's IT--not kiddy material, but an awesome book too!) Pick up this book no matter what your favortie genre. You'll add another favorite author to your list. As Koontz says in the afterword of my edition, this is probably his best work. He knows it. And it shows. Get it today.
Rating: Summary: Not for everyone! Review: I am not rating this book based off how Koontz produces his storyline, as he is a good writer in this regard. My 1 star rating is based off my preference of content: how it is presented. A reviewer on this board stated that this is a book for everyone, regardless of age. This is NOT so! Within this book you will find vulgarity in regards to sex and numerous disturbing murder scenes, one involving a boy and in another instance, the murderer daydreaming about his ultimate kill: a pregnant woman and her unborn child. To name a few. To mention also, there are numerous passages regarding animal mutilations. This book is dark and quite disturbing and even though there was a good man, good woman (who in the beginning had quite an inferiority complex) and a friendly, smart dog (albeit laughable in regards to capabilities) presented in this book...they certainly couldn't make up for all the twisted, disturbing, dark and to put it plainly; downright evil mentality that Koontz so well displayed within "Watchers." This IS a graphic book. If you don't mind this, then more than likely you will find it a well written book. If you do mind this, you have been forewarned.
Rating: Summary: Koontz at his Best Review: As Koontz novels go, this is the one to buy and keep. The characters, though not as well written as some other writers, are the best Koontz has done before or after..and how can you not love and feel for that pooch? This one reads easily and sucks you in.
Rating: Summary: Great book for everybody! Review: This was an excellent book by Dean Koontz. Nomatter what age or genre of books you like this is a classic. This is about two escaped lab experiements, an human intelligent monster and a dog with human intelligence. The dog is being hunted by the monster and his ability to locate the dog. It has very great details and is a great story. I will continute to read Dean Koontz and his stories.
Rating: Summary: The Book that Made Me Fall in Love with Dean Koontz Review: Although this was the second of Koontz's books that I read it definitely assured that I would be a lifetime fan. I have read most of his books since (the only reason I haven't read them all is because I was on an Anne Rice kick for a while) and I have to say that they all have something special, but this one was especially wonderful. The characters were believeable and were complex enough to seem real but Koontz did such a good job describing their personal struggles and feelings that you felt you understood them in the end. I also loved the classic battle of good vs. evil that the dog and the other creature represented. I'll admit the idea of a genius dog that can read and answer questions is a little far fetched but the story and the characters in this book are so believeable that you don't really notice. (At least I didn't) All in all this is an excellent read and definitely a good place to start for anyone who is just discovering Koontz's extraordinary talent.
Rating: Summary: B-Movie Book Review: First of all, I am astounded at the five-star ratings for this novel. It was like reading a screenplay for a made-for-TV movie for the USA Network. I could expand on my criticism for the book, but its taken up enough of my time already. No point in letting it waste more. Readers, be warned: Not everybody found "Watchers" to be a five-star read.
Rating: Summary: Good Read! Review: I very much enjoyed Watchers. I couldn't put this book down! I fell in love with Einstein, the dog with human intelligence. He is what we all wish to see in our pets. The characters worked well together, and the anticipation/chase for The Outsider was thrilling. The only thing I would change about this book is that I don't think Vince gets what he deserves the way I think he should get it. His character was so arrogant that I think his out was too easy. Overall, I highly recommend this if you like to be absorbed in your books.
Rating: Summary: Koontz never a disappointment Review: 5 doublesided (bookcassette) tapes, never a moment without action - don't want to ruin it for you - but you'll love this book experience
Rating: Summary: My #1 Favorite Book!! Review: Of all the books I've read, including all of Dean Koontz's, this is my most favorite. I completely loose track of everything around me when I open this story. A MUST read!!
