Summary: An Engrossing Read!!!
Review: Watchers brings the childhood "bogeyman" to life! An engrossing and terrifying read that nearly kicked me out of my seat!! I could not put this book down. To tell the truth, however, during the parts when Detective Lem and the other policemen were involved, the suspense in the plot took a sudden downfall. I was clearly disappointed, but made it my goal to skip the "annoying" parts and finish the book. As a result, the remainder of the novel truly made up for the "boring" parts. Koontz has a way of causing the reader to feel sympathy towards the characters. I even felt sorry for The Outsider at times! If you're looking for a suspenseful novel, then Watchers is what you are looking for!!

Summary: Very Gripping
Review: This is the only Dean Koontz book I have read so far, but I have to tell you it was a great book. The very first paragraph just grabbed me and I couldn't put it down. I have told everyone I know to read this book. The characters were so well played out. When i came to the end of the book I didn't want to put down, I just did not want it to end. I loved the dog Eienstein and I felt so much pity for the outsider, because he was so lonely and couldnt stand it. But anyway the book was the best book I have ever read I just might have to read it again.

Summary: A great book - very poorly presented... =(
Review: I bought this version (as a gift) thinking it would complete my sister's Dean Koontz hardcover collection nicely - when it arrived I nearly died.Its about the size of a mass market paperback, has cheap printing (text isn't even aligned right on the first 50 pages), and a cover that looks like it was scanned off the real thing and printed on a piece of wet cardboard. It felt so bad that I thought I might damage it just by holding it... Sure, go buy the book yeah but not THIS VERSION!

Summary: One of his best!
Review: Suffering from depression and loneliness, Travis Cornell drives hours from his home to hike a wooded trail that he once hiked as a child. As he is hiking along, his is greeted by a dirty and slightly battered Golden Retriever, who prevents him from continuing on his path. Suddenly, he is aware that there is something in the woods that does not belong. Now he and the dog are racing for their lives. Upon reaching the safety of his truck, Travis decides to keep the dog and takes him home with him. Realization slowly dawns on him as he learns that this is no ordinary dog. And the thing in the woods is no ordinary creature. It is a predator of the worst kind and will hunt the dog down until one of them is dead. Dean Koontz gives us a depressed hero and later introduces us to a shy, phobic woman named Nora as the heroine. Their love for the dog and attraction for each other causes them to become stronger people, determined to fight for each other. In addition, the plot to the story is thickened with the presence of government agents hunting down both the creature and the genetically enhanced dog, whom Travis has named Einstein. If you are a pet lover, you will undoubtedly fall in love with Einstein. A great story with well developed characters and an action filled plot.

Summary: My Idea of the Perfect Book
Review: I think Watchers is about as close as you can come to a perfect book. It's scary, it's sad, it's uplifting, it's even funny at times. You'll love all of the characters (even the "bad guys", and that includes the murderous beast and heartless assassin) by the end of the book, if only because you love to hate them. Dean Koontz seems to be great at making all his characters seem human, rather than plot elements. And if you don't love Einstein by the end of the book, you're a heartless loner who hates the world. I haven't read any other Dean Koontz novels (although I'm starting Strangers), but I can't imagine that the other ones could be any better. By the way, if you're thinking about giving this book a pass because "it's not your type of book", let me assure you that whatever type of book is "yours", Watchers is it. It has something for everyone. BUY THIS BOOK.

Summary: A THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE STORY
Review: One of my favorite books is Nightfall by Isaac Asimov. I recently loaned the book to someone and in return she gave me a copy of Watchers. I hope she enjoys Nightfall as much as I enjoyed Watchers. One thing I like about sci-fi is the fact that make a leap of faith to create the scenario for a great story, be it time travel, contact with aliens, interstellar travel, or in this case genetic engineering taken to perhaps impossible extremes. No matter how enticing the scenario may be, the story is not going to work unless you have believable and interesting characters, a good plot and a good writing style, all of which this book has. I had never read anything by Koontz, but this story began with a very eerie fear of the something lurking in the dark that certainly got my attention. The rest of the story continued to hold my attention, with very human characters and their relationships to others, as well as the sense of the hunt and a final confrontation. About the only thing that didn't appeal to me that much was the fact that Einstein's intelligence seemed at times to be a bit too developed and too far-fetched, but, what the heck, it still made for a great story. When I finish the book I'm currently reading, I think I'll go look for another Dean Koontz book.

Review: I don't know what exactly drew me to this book, I have never read a Dean Koontz novel before, but I overheard some relatives talking about it, and figured I would find out fro myself what they were talking about. I picked up this novel paid for it, and went home. That night, I cracked open the book, and to my astonishment found that I had read some 250 pages in what seemed no time at all. Not being an avid reader I was shocked that I was drawn so thoroughly into this novel so quickly. Two days later I finished my first Dean Koontz novel and was left wanting more. In a secret government lab two genetically altered beings escape. One bred for pure intelligence and the other as a weapon of war. The first, a golden retriever grown with an abnormally high intelligence, and the latter, a dog of war made from muscle, and hate. The novel starts off with the main character Travis running alone in a canyon when he comes across a golden retriever. The dog saves Travis' life by leading him away from some unknown evil, and through this ordeal Travis befriends the canine. As time goes by Travis starts to notice things about his new friend. He mentions that the dog always stares at him knowingly, as if the dog understands him, and soon Travis learns its secret. That it can understand human speech and respond, not though speech, but the dog can recognize letters and form crude sentences with scrabble pieces. All this while a series of vicious murders occurs, and they seem to be getting closer and closer to hi home. Finally one night Travis encounters this evil that seemed to have been following him since he came across the golden retriever in the canyon. Travis and the dog barely escape, and they flee across states. To add a twist, secret government officials are also searching for the two escaped dogs, and Travis must flee from them also. To find out what happens in the end I recommend that you but this book. Dean Koontz is a brilliant storyteller and keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat throughout the novel. This novel is also fast paced, and a very quick read. There are quite a few plot twists, and it is overall a very good read. This is not a literary piece. It should not be read if one wants to find a new meaning for life, or is looking to take away a life changing idea from this novel. It t was written for entertainment, and it is a good read, yet overall the reader comes out gaining no knew knowledge about anything important. This was a good book, and I recommend it for those who enjoy reading as a form of entertainment. It is a quick-read and a thriller. However it is not a literary masterpiece. Dean Koontz is a fantastic author, and if this novel doesn't intrigue you, then I suggest you look into anyone of his other literary pieces.

Summary: Amazing thriller.
Review: "Watchers" is a great story to be read. Dean Koontz has a superlative genius for depicting scenes with constant and subtle increase of tension. With very tiny elements a normal engagement turns into a hair-raising situation. The dog-human relationship is very dearly and shows a deep penetration of the author on canine piques. The whole story is very neatly tied up and keep you running chapter after chapter until the end. A book to enjoy.

Summary: What a Mystery
Review: Do you like books, where when you read them, you forget where you are? Well then, this book could be for you. This book has lots of suspence and mystery! I did not want to put the book down, even though at times It got a little scarey. The whole story beind this book is so amazing and interesting. Its a book, when you are done reading you have to think back and put every thing together it fits just like a puzzle. This book opened my mind to other thoughts and ideas that I have never thought about before. If you like those kind of books, this book could be for you. I realy encorage you to read It.
