Rating: Summary: What a great book!! Review: I love stories about time travel and love the medieval period. I am not a Crichton fan (sorry Michael) but I loved this book and have recommended it to all my friends. It had some nice twists and turns and the bad guy got it in the end.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down. Review: I love sci-fi, and history. This is a neat mix of both. In particalar, I enjoy reading historical recreations that are as much as possible accurate. This indeed seems to be one of those. Its true that the plot does become typical Hollywood about half way through, and all of the good guys get what they want, and the bad guys are punished, but so what? This is good fun. I read the thing in a day, after all. That should tell you something.
Rating: Summary: Creative idea ruined by silly formulaic plot Review: Despite some interesting aspects, this book quickly degenerates into a 200 page chase sequence (can anyone say 'Jurassic Park'). I didn't keep track, but there must have been at least twenty instances where one of the characters was rescued from certain death at just the last second. A completely predictable (and well-telegraphed) ending is the icing on the cake. The explanation of time travel is fairly well done, but as in most stories of this type, the holes in the plot are big enough to pass a medieval castle through. The book provides an interesting glimpse into a time period that most people have never learned about, but this is not enough reason to recommend this book. All in all, a good premise is ruined by Crichton's standard formula of shallow characters and a silly plot.
Rating: Summary: Best Book I've Read In Awhile! Review: Excellent! I couldn't put it down. This is one of Michael Crichton best books ever.
Rating: Summary: Excellent adventure story Review: I must say that it was a great adventure story. Very good page turner. I don't know if the historical facts are very accurate, but still, it makes a great story. Try to ignore the technical aspects of the book ;) They just don't add up. Definately worth reading.
Rating: Summary: It's a great start . . . Review: For those of you interested in time travel -- this read is like heroin. For those of you interested in the facts surrounding multiple universes, better move on. Like Paco Ahlgren's, DISCIPLINE, this book is heavily influenced by David Deutsch and Hugh Everett (theory of multiple universes, or The Multiverse Interpretation). But unlike it's fictional counterpart, Crichton fails to stay within the boundaries of reality -- or at least THEORETICAL reality. Still, it's a great way to be introduced to the intricacies of modern quantum mechanics -- if only at a superficial level. Loads of fun!!!
Rating: Summary: An Excellent book! Review: Michael Crichton always makes his books with an air of possibility about them. This book does just that and more. This story is a very indepth tale of time travel to the past that goes wrong but has a very intresting ending about it. If you like this book you can also play the game which is well developed for people who really enjoyed the book or are to lazy to read.
Rating: Summary: Loved Timeline Review: Outside of Jurassic Park I think Timeline is the best book Crichton has ever written. It only took me three days to read and I'm not even one of those people who loves reading or can read really fast.
Rating: Summary: Can this really happen?! Review: This is a great book i found by accident. it will have you thinking about the possibilities, and when you're all confused it will leave you wondering; can this really happen?. you will not be able to put this book down!!
Rating: Summary: A Fast Read Review: This was a pretty good book. I took it on vacation. I read it in four days. The story is easy to follow... The idea of how time travel is executed in this book is very interesting if a little implausible. I don't know very much about the year 1350 or there abouts, but the book did seem to be authentic. The scenes that were protrayed were close enough for me. If you're looking for something with not too much depth, this is a good book.
