Rating: Summary: A very good read Review: I picked this book up at an airport bookstore during a vacation trip and I wasn't disappointed. I read my first Michael Crichton book as a teenager and have always enjoyed his ability to weave scientific theory and fact into his storylines. His knack for making the reader feel the sights and sounds he describes continues in this story. I found myself looking forward to picking this up every evening and couldn't wait to see what the next page would bring. While many reviewers might find fault with aspects of his style, this is a fun book to read. I would recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Great book for a Physics major! Review: This is not great literature, but it sure is damn fun to read. I liked it because it made a reasonable attempt to explain (within the bounds of fiction) how time travel could be possible. It also presents history and its study in interesting terms. But most of all, it keeps the reader on the edge of his seat.
Rating: Summary: A neat historical science fiction. Review: In Timeline, a company has invented a way to travel through time. A professor studying midevil times is sent back to this time period; however, he becomes stuck here. His graduate students find a note from the professor explaining his whereabouts while they are excavating a site, and the students go back in time to rescue the professor. The book is historically accurate, with the exception of instances where the character's observe that things are different in the past than we believe they are in the present.
Rating: Summary: reveiw by Amy Review: ...I have read all of Michael Crichton's books save Eaters of The Dead which I am reading now.I liked this book sometimes and the next chapter would be dreadfully boring. It was rather on and off. It had some exiting moments, like when one of the charactors is on the rafters high above the ground. I like most medieval books because they have no guns. Guns,I think, kill people too easily...I also liked the idea of quantum foam. One of the things that are difficult for me in Crichton's books is I cant always distinguish what is fact anf what is fiction.I would recomend this book to someone in their late teens. It is good for guys AND girls...
Rating: Summary: forgot how good he is! Review: This book was a terrific surprise. I loved Jurassic Park(much better and scarier than the movie!!) and Congo was good too. Hadn't read any others until I bought this. I highly recommend it for a good read.
Rating: Summary: History minded readers who enjoy action will love it! Review: Although slow starting, his latest novel picks up speed in the normal Crichton manner and moves quickly to a somewhat disappointing ending. It doesn't matter to this reviewer, however, once a Crichton fan, always a fan. The action and adventure are superb as is the storyline. Masterfully written.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed this Review: 50/50 on this one. There is a lot of action in this book. If you want a page by page ride, this will work for you. I read it and had a hard time putting it down, though still felt a bit of a let down. At points, the author makes a big deal to get one point across, then in the next chapter, they seem to not mention it In one chapter, everyone is wondering where so-in-so is and in the last part of the chapter, we see this person. In the next chapter, he is not mentioned. So there is a build up and then........
Rating: Summary: One of his Best Review: Michael Crichton is not known for writing a masterpiece or really a truly great novel, but he seems to be consistant with good ficton. I have noticed that every one of his novels have never been complete. He has always left out details, and corrupted the plot with excess action. Which is okay but in this case the idea of a time machine and going to another time needs a masterpiece of an introduction and a very detailed body. The conclusion doesn't really matter. Michael Crichton's "Timeline" missed many opputunities to add specific details. Every one of his novels should be huge. But he tends to leave out details thinking that it does not matter. In Timeline their is a weak introduction, with a lack in details. He never explains all we need to know about the time that the book is studying. So therefore it has a weak body. He doesn't tell us too much about the time. He just concentrates on the mission and the action. Overall a good novel, needs details, but it keeps you intrested. All the way to the end it has nonstop action. But the ending is the weakest part of the book but it didn't hurt the plot because as I said the ending didn't matter. It's a good book to read if you have nothing else.
Rating: Summary: Great novel that mixes history with modern science. Review: I'm a big history and science buff, so this book was everything I wanted. It didn't get 5 stars because it seemed to get rushed at the ending. The first half or third were very slow, but enjoyable. As soon as the last 150 pages rolled around, the pace was very fast. It wasn't so fast that you missed somethings, but it was a little fast for my liking. Still a good book if you like history and adventure.
Rating: Summary: Don't miss this one. Review: For lovers of time travel and the medievel period, this is a not to be missed book.
