Rating: Summary: good start....bland finish Review: timeline starts out really strong..a page turner. there are enough stories happening to keep your interest. the end kinda falls apart. you know when you go see a movie and you just know they ran out of maney and had to slap an ending together? thats how i felt at the end of the book.
Rating: Summary: A mixture of different styles of types Review: of books as Crichton is wont to do. He certainly looks at things differently-- this reminded of a book I read last year that I liked-- THE ROCK by Robert Doherty. Different type of story but a mixture of different types of books. Also a good book is THE TINE PATROL.
Rating: Summary: Crighton's "Timeline" is a timeless treasure Review: There is an old saying that instructs writers to "write what you know". I can think of no author of popular fiction that follows this adage to the degree Crighton does in all his books; and "Timeline" is no exception. I can think of no book I have recently read that I have enjoyed more. The subject matter is fascinating, the action relentless and his attention to scientific and historical accuracy makes it difficult to determine where the real world ends and Crighton begins. More than a book about time travel, "Timeline" is a book about people of different times and natures. It sends the reader plunging through the ether of quantum physics into the brutal midst of the "100 year war" between medieval England and France. I suggest that before you begin this book you set aside enough time to finish it in one sitting as that is what you will be compelled to do.
Rating: Summary: A reviting tales of science fiction and time travel. Review: Computers can now send people back in time - to a frightening barbaric world where some fit in, some die, and some decide to stay. Crichton's story of a group of scientists sent on a doomed rescue mission becomes a riveting tale of adjustments and historical confrontations, setting it apart from the usual focus on paradox and making a satisfying, involving account.
Rating: Summary: A bang of a book at the onset of the millenium Review: This book was a roller coaster ride to the end. I could not put it down. The pages seemed to turn themselves. Michael Crichton wins again with a brilliant novel that is thoroughly researched and each detail draws you further into the story and into the the lives of the characters. I would recommend this to all types of readers, especially those that enjoy action/adventure, sci-fi, and/or suspense. Enjoy as you begin the new millenium.
Rating: Summary: Has done better in the past Review: It just didn't have that Crichton Punch
Rating: Summary: Fabulous. Review: One word sums this novel up. Fabulous. Up until now my favourite Crichton was The Andromeda Strain. That book gave me nightmares. Now I have a new favourite. Built upon the tried and tested 'Time Travel' plot line I was pleasantly surprised to find that Timeline was surprisingly realistic and believable. I have to hand it to Crichton, I didn't believe he could pull it off. After starting with some trepidation I was soon drawn into the novel and its brilliantly imagined and conveyed plot. Talk about a rollercoaster ride. you may want to go back and experience it again, because this one blows you away!
Rating: Summary: Very Good but.... Review: An excellent book to read, but seemed a tad too much like he was writting a screenplay instead of a book. Definately a quick read as once the book gets going it never lets up.
Rating: Summary: Movie script, not novel Review: I found it very hard to become absorbed in this book until the second half. It is written in a very choppy, episodic manner--as though the author was imagining the movie that will be made afterward. The characters are not very developed, and I kept mixing up their identities for awhile. Like a mindless Saturday night movie, however, the novel ultimately does entertain.
Rating: Summary: In Search of More Poetic Prose in a Thriller Review: I am an author and I love thrillers. My biggest disappointment in today's world of adventure fiction is the inability to find a mesmerizing adventure constructed with poetic and living prose which allows me to feel the southern Louisiana heat, smell the toasted bagels in a Manhattan deli or wince along with the facial expressions of a lawyer caught ambulance chasing in the hospital room of a critically injured patient. While a better yarner than Turow, this author's works lack the sort of living color which fiction demands. I recently discovered an author who accomplishes this and a thriller in which he does it. The author is Gary Wickert, and the book is DARK REDEMPTION. I didn't find it yet on Barnes & Noble, but it has just been released and it is available on Amazon.com. If you like this author's storylines, but want to be riveted to and made love to by the prose which are the building blocks of any piece of fiction....READ 'DARK REDEMPTION'.
