Summary: Fantastic Setting
Review: Timeline was fastpaced and fun to the end, but I enjoyed the setting more than anything else. I've always had an affection for the Medieval times, and with Timeline the reader is presented with many interesting facts about this time period without the hindering tedium of a history book. By far the best of Crichton settings.

Summary: Crichton's Timeline
Review: I've read quite a few of Michael Crichton's books. I'm also quite a fan of the time travel genre. I naturally assumed this would be a fantastic combination, however I was somewhat disappointed with "Timeline". Although it was an enjoyable read, it seemed way off Crichton's usual writing style, and I had a hard time associating Crichton with actually having written this novel. It's good for checking out of the library, but I wouldn't add it to my personal collection. I agree with a earlier reviewer who said it seemed like it was written with movie motives.

Summary: hello
Review: ok...some may find this boring...but to tell you the truth, I didnt. I read the thing in less than a week. however, i am a kid and i think kids are more likely to be interested in the chase/fight sequences than an adult would be...itz also very easy to follow

Summary: What a great read.
Review: What a great read this was. The first 100 or so pages lost me in the world of quantum computers, but once I suspended my hold on reality, and checked into the wonderful world of fantasy and imagination, I was enthralled. Better than Jurasic Park in my opinion, and I hope for a sequel of some kind, I couldn't put this book down. Shame on anyone that found this book to be boring or predictable-it was exciting, and interesting, as well as educational and fun. I hated for it to be over. My "I don't read fiction husband" even found it to hold his attention. A perfect read for the lover of fiction and twists. You never knew what the future, or the past held for the characters. You found yourself in love or hate with each one, and wondering who the "bad guy" was. Way to go Mr Crighton- do it again. And thank you for this one.

Summary: ENTERTAINING, above all
Review: I bought this book with the sole purpose of being entertained lightly, and that is exactly what it achieved. Had I wanted a more extensive review of quantum physics or time travel I would have probably bought a different book, which is what I would recommend to other people looking to getting more of an education. The plot is interesting enough, however just toward the end it gets a bit tiring, I admit. But again, for light reading and entertaining it was exactly right. Also, I thought very highly of AIRFRAME.

Summary: One point nine thumbs down
Review: Having been a fan, I ignored the unfavorable reviews and bought the book - only to discover that this story read like a made for TV script. I constantly tried to suspend disbelief to get through - not possible for me. I kept thinking that some high school kid wrote this story - went back in time - substituted it at the last nanosecond with Mr Crichton's publisher and...oh well, enough time wasted. One point nine thumbs down!

Summary: Lacks of originality
Review: The use of Quantum Multiverses to travel back in time has been widely used in Sci-fi literature for decades. I cannot see the originality of this story, because it contains the usual time-travel paradoxes and similar topics. And as other readers have noted, it turns out to be just another adventures book once the time travel is made. The diagrams are classical in Chichton books and very explanatory, that's true. Year-lights away in quality and imagination from Andromeda Strain's, his best novel ever. For a very good novel on multiverses, better read 'What A Mad Universe', by Fredric Brown.

Summary: It will be a great movie
Review: This is my first Crichton book I have read. The story is interesting and he doesn't bore you with scientific jargon throughout the book, just the absolute basics to convince the reader that it may be feasible to travel between universes. The plot is somewhat predictable but the action will keep you turning the page. I can't wait for the movie!

Summary: I'd swear I was there
Review: There is no better book to read on vacation. So much research went into the description of every phase of this book, that sometimes I wonder if I didn't really visit that castle in France. The book is absorbing, exciting and engaging. I give it four stars instead of five because it read a little too much like a screenplay. It's one thing to be transported to another one of the "multiple universes," but the added comic relief at tense moments just as you would find in a movie were unnecessary and insulting, as if I needed it to keep me interested in finishing the book. Nevertheless, great story line and compelling characters.

Summary: Get Chased, Get Caught, Get Free, Get Chased ...
Review: Timeline is Michael Crichton's best work since Disclosure, which isn't really saying much since the two novels that have been published between these two books, Lost World and Airframe were absolutely atrocious.

I was interested in the first 150 pages when the concept of quantum physics was discussed and put into action, but after the three main characters made it to 1357, it became nothing more than the Lost World without the dinosaurs, with nothing more than small dialog between chase scenes.

I suspect my lack of enthusiasm with the book also has something to do with my lack of interest in medieval times. I was left to wonder if Crichton was able to weave a story that involved the US Civil War or the American Revolutionary War if I would feel different about it. We'll probably never know.

I agree that this has the making of a great movie, but unfortunately, that is how Crichton writes these days, with the movie in mind first, then the story itself.

Overall, it's just an OK book.
