Summary: This book changed my life ...this time around.
Review: I distinctly remember living in D.C. in the 70's and every time I went to any Seminar around town. I would always run into the same guy without fail who would try to give me this book in paperback. Well I resisted for several years til 1979 when I stopped seeing the guy, so I went and bought the sky blue hard back version to see what he had been all about. Well to skip to the most important part ... 3/4 of the way through the book was a chapter entitled : Babaji: Yogi Christ of India. Well this seemed like the cream of the cream of what I had read so far ... so following instructions in the chapter, I called upon this Being with reverence and an open heart and ummediately received a tremendous spiritual blessing and 7 months later I unbelieveably found myself at the feet (and not for the first time I then realized ) of this same Babaji in Haidiyakhan, India and life has never been without direction since. Because of that I recommend to any who are moved by the idea of Babaji or these words, to read "HAIDIYAKHANDI :Path to Happiness" a book regarding the recent (1991-1993) return of Babaji to the physical, found on this website under books about Babaji.

Summary: The True Second Coming
Review: I spent my freshman year at The College of New Jersey reading Huston Smith's World Religions in an attempt to prove the existence of God, with no success. At the outset of my sophomore year I made a declaration to solve all of Jesus's parables, hoping they can help me. I made this decision with such intensity that I stayed up many long nights analyzing the gospels. The 'next week' I picked up and read Autobiography of a Yogi. I have never read any literature on yoga before in my life and never intented to, so I find it miraculous. The book reveals the true Second Coming of Jesus Christ-the Christ-consiosness (that is why it was first published in a blue cover -1946). The single most important book ever written.

Summary: For Direct Personal Experience of God
Review: Christianity generally does not provide the tools and techniques for deep meditation (beyond mind and body) even though Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within you. Christianity emphasizes devotional practices such as prayer and service to others. Deep meditation is necessary for "union with God" (yoga). This profound and life-changing book provides an introduction to yoga meditation and leads one to the methods and techniques for the serious seeker. At the same time, Paramahansa Yogananda broadens one's understanding of the life of Jesus Christ and His mission on earth and in every way acknowledges the Messiah. This book is for all spiritual seekers who still find something missing in their life, or those who already know that only God can satisfy their deep longing. One need not even blindly "believe" what is written in this book, but merely practice the methods provided and discover for oneself the truth of these teachings. This book will lead many souls to God. The monks and nuns of Self Realization Fellowship who practice these teachings are proof positive of the truth to be found herein.

Summary: This book introduces a reality beyond imaginaion
Review: This book introduces a reality hitherto unimagined by most. In early 20th century India, we are introduced to Christ-like figures full of spiritual love and wisdom. These saints do not exist in myth and legend, as part of an era past, but they exist in our time, with a message for our time.

This would have to be one of the most spiritually enlightening books I have ever read and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking knowledge and encouragement. The principles in this book are universal.

This is a definite must read.

Summary: This book is full of hope for anyone seeking God
Review: This is one of the most positive books that I have ever read that is filled with actual experiences of someone searching for God. Paramahansa Yogananda reaches out to the householder and the monastic alike to change your life and make it more religious. Not only does he search for God, but he describes how he found God. This book is a must read for anyone interested in a more religious life. Even though it was written 50 years ago, it is very up-to-date in the inspiration it provides.

Summary: Reprint of the first edition
Review: Followers of many religious traditions have come to recognize this book as a masterpiece of spiritual literature. Paramhansa Yogananda was the first yoga master of India whose mission it was to live and teach in the West. HIs first-hand account of his life experiences includes childhood revelations, his visits to saints and masters of India, the years of training he received in the ashram of his guru, and long-secret teachings of Self realization that he made available to the Western reader. This is a verbatim reprinting of the original 1946 edition. Subsequent reprintings reflect changes made after the author's 1952 death. Even the spelling of Yogananda's name was changed. As the reader may notice, later editions spell it ParamAhansa. Yogananda, himself, spelled it Paramhansa.

Summary: Impossible to read Yogananda's book and go away unchanged.
Review: I have been an avid reader for 50+ years. This is the one book that has had the most profound effect on my life. Yogananda stretches above and beyond one religion and leaves us all spiritually enriched.

Summary: the second book i would want on a deserted island
Review: as a christian born again this book enabled me to see and understand what the bible and JESUS realy meant, and it was like the LORD JESUS was telling me that there are many mansions in GODS kingdom and many more meanings other than what the present religious leaders would have us believe. Sri Yogananaji is devinely in communion with our FATHER in heaven.

Summary: THE MOST AMAZING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ IN HINDUISM
Review: I am the author of the international best seller AM I A HINDU? [ISBN 1-879904-06-3 Amazon distributors lists as the 4th popular book on Hinduism] and I wanted to state that AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI, is the most amazing book I have ever read on Hinduism. With his simple and beautiful style of English language, Parama Pujya Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda has given a beautiful picture of Yoga and life in India. I salute him and I adore him. It is him, who inspired me to go deep into spirituality. In India, I first came across this beautiful book when I was 9 years old. I read this book cover to cover many many times. Later with my extremely limited resources I bought at least 50 copies of this book and gave as gifts to my realtives and friends. I gave a copy of my elder brothers who was contemplating on a divorce with his wife. Thanks to this wonderful book, he and his wife are together now and they have made teachings of Parama Pujya Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda, part and pacel of their lives. Yogananda has gone to extreme lengths discussing thought provoking aspects of Hinduism and Christianity in this book and I BEG EVERYONE TO PLEASE READ THIS BOOK....Please buy copies of this book and give to your friends and relatives. .If at all anyone would like to know more about my book AM I A HINDU?
