Summary: Palindrome
Review: An entertaining murder mystery with a twist. Stuart Woods has evolved to an excellent murder story teller. His first book Chiefs and the two that followed the same family, Run Before the Wind and Grass Roots are also excellent. His very best book to date: New York Dead is by far the best murder mystery I have ever read

Summary: A voice of dissent...
Review: As a reader accustomed to the tightly woven and truly imaginative mysteries of Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine, I found this novel workmanlike at best. Woods is an adept writer of bestsellers but a careless craftsman. My first objection: structurally, the novel makes little (much less provocative) sense. It contains two separate and distinct plotlines that never meld. The Cumberland-Island-family plotline, moreover, is larded with rather shameless Gothic twists that never pay off. The most egregious of these is the "twins" subplot after which the novel is titled and which proves utterly pointless; the story would not have been substantively different without it. My second objection: transparency and predictability. Any discerning reader should be able to figure out the "mystery" of the twins about halfway through the book, and the climactic events of the final chapters can be foreseen even earlier. I finished the book with a groan, returned it, and went on to the infinitely more absorbing "The Killing Doll" by Ms. Rendell. If only American publishers, and readers, held their authors to this high a standard!

Summary: We read faster than you write.
Review: I wept at certain times, with certain thoughts. I have so much to think about, and I relish having the time to do it. I've learned the value of solitude. It was easier to do with no one there to see me; easier to laugh, too; easier to think about the future in terms of what the past had taught me. (Stuart Woods)

Summary: Keeps you guessing!
Review: I've read many of Stuart Woods books and enjoyed them very much. Palidrome was more than that though. Some friends and I shared a library copy of the unabridged recording of this book on our shift at work. Why do I mention this? Well, it's simple. This book was amazing! We were left spellbound as a group, each of us poking and proding each other all night as things developed in this story. The story is emotional as we were along on this journey with these characters. So many twists and turns left us gasping with those surprised, "OH's" that had our coworkers staring at us. The editorial comments above tell the basics of the story, so I wanted to share the experience of actually reading or listening to it being told. This story had us wrapped up in what was going on for the two nights we listened to it we probably worked more focused than we'd done before simply because our concentration was so involved with this story.
Personally this book had me crying my eyes out at work! I sat at my desk bawling my head off and happily doing so because I enjoyed this book so much. Unlike some of the other reviewers I wasn't expecting the twists and turns of the story, so it was great to have friends just as surprised as I was going through it with me.
Even a couple of years later we still remind each other every so often about this book and tell others about it. This story sticks in your head and makes you care about what is happening to the characters. I may have liked Stuart Woods before this book, but after this I love the way his mind works!

Summary: The one to read
Review: If you ever thought about reading a novel written by Stuart Woods and could only pick one, this is it. This was a great suspenseful, romantic and exciting book to read. The story is wonderfully crafted and I had a hard time putting it down. It is about Liz Barwick who has run away from an abusive marriage to a football star Bake Ramsey and is hiding for fear that he is coming after her to kill her. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone.
