Summary: THIS BOOK ROCKS! NO JOKE!!
Review: This book is, by far THE BEST book I have ever read. I love the carachter of Lyra. She is so cool! I want a daemon just like pantalaimon. Anyway, I'm not going to tell you much about the plot (because I want you to be surprised) but all I can say is that it's so fast paced, I stayed up until 1:00 in the morning one night just so I could finish it! After I was done I saw the thing at the end, "REad the Subtle Knife" so I waited until the library got a copy and promptly checked it out. Because The Golden Compass leaves you off at such a key point, you're like "NO Wait! What happens next?"

All I can say is, you will love this book.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read! Surely a classic!
Review: The Golden Compass is my new favorite book. Lyra's adventure's are so captivating it also made long for a daemon of my own. Pullman has the best technique of writing, I've enjoyed reading The Subtle Knife I know I can't wait for the third book!

Summary: A beautifully woven story, THE BEST!!!
Review: I just finished reading "The Golden Compass" by Phillip Pullman. What a magnifacient read. Never in my life have I read such a fascinating book. The plot took sharp turns, so I was constantly amazed and surprised. I LOVED how Pullman explained Lyra's feelings about her daemon, and how he made having a daemon seem so normal. And the way he portrayed interscision (you'll find out about when you read the book) was, at first, a feeling completely vacant in my mind, but when he explained it, the complete and tragic loss was so real! I recomend this book as my second most favorite book, of all of the books I've read (and I've read thousands of books).

Summary: A beautifully written, thought provoking book for all ages!
Review: Im a 34 yr old teacher who loves to read " children's" literature, especially that which has historical or seemingly historical touches. The subtlty of the morals in this fable are the kind of thought provoking literature I loved as a child and even now as an adult. Id recommend this book to any reader able to understand it's nuances. Id rank it up there with " A Wrinkle in Time", " The Bookof Three", " The High King", The Narnia Chronicles" and other great books. I will make sure I either read this book to my children or have them read it when they are old enough.

Summary: A wonderful story that deserves more attention.
Review: "The Golden Compass" was a delightfully original, fast paced, and endearing novel. It has a strongly planned out plot, with none of the "holes" that can be found elsewhere. I, as some others readers, was annoyed by the book often being placed in childrens sections. Surely "Dark Matter" and is not part of normal playground talk among children! I thoughly enjoyed this book, and await it's successors eagerly.

Summary: Awesome tale of adventure, love, and mystery
Review: I'd never even heard of Philip Pullman until I pulled "The Golden Compass" off of the shelves of our school library. Lyra is a strong, imaginative, persistent heroine. She's got the power to overcome the past of her parents, Mrs. Coulter, and Lord Asriel, to save herself and other children from the daemon splitting Obliation Board. There are many animated characters, which make this book lively and keeps readers wanting more. The idea behind Lyra's truth telling Compass is ingenious-I teaches her responsibility and courage. Readers who enjoy "The Golden Compass", should read its sequel, "The Subtle Knife", and "The Tin Princess", another work by Pullman that I have enjoyed.

Summary: The plot wickedly twists and turns in a most exciting way.
Review: Lyra and the number of other characters in the book really made the story come alive. The plot wickedly twisted and turned but was not so confusing as say "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" series. I thought it was cool that you suspected the wrong people until to late. I also thought it was cool that they don't describe in great detail any super gory deaths. It was mostly clean good action.

Summary: If anyone does not enjoy this book, they must be strange.
Review: I can't possibly think ok a negative thing about this book. It can easily be enjoyed by anyone ages 10-1,000,000. It is a wonderful and complex story about Lyra Belaqua and her daemon, Pantalaimon. I could say a lot more, but I don't want to give away the story to anyone, because it is so superb. I loved this book, and could read it thousands of times. I would buy it, even if i had to pay $1,000 or more. Philip Pullman is a true genius, and deserves every possible award for this book. The sequel, "The Subtle Knife" is equally amazing. I can't wait for the third installment in the series!
