Rating: Summary: Great book, even for a grown-up! Review: I teach middle school, and when my students raved about this book, I had to take a peek. Well, so much for marking papers -- I couldn't put the book down, and shrieked when I realized it would end in a cliffhanger. A powerful alternate world, interesting characters, a non-obvious plot, and plenty of suspense combine to create a wonderful read.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fascinating Review: This book is a real page turner. The amount of imagination and originality put into this novel is overwhelming. A plot no one will ever forget.
Rating: Summary: A Great Suspense Novel, That You Can't Put Down. Review: When I started reading this book, I already knew I would remember it forever. I then realised there where two other books in the series, and wanted to know the realese dates. I think that the Golden Compass makes you realise how great books can get. I haven't read the second book yet because I can't get my hands on it. I am really looking forword to reading it after reading The Golden Compass.
Rating: Summary: it was i a very good book Review: I loved this book and the Subtle Knife i wish His Dark Materials was coming out sooner so i can find out who wins i really loved this book
Rating: Summary: I must have read it 10 times it was so good!! Review: At first I wasn't so sure if I would like The Golden Compass because at the time I wasn't realy into fiction. But after I read the first few chapters, I couldn't put it down! Whenever I had a few minutes to spare, I was reading the book. Since I read The Golden Compass I looked for other Pullman books. I can't wait untill the third book comes out so I can find out how it ends!
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I've ever read!!!Very exciting!!! Review: This book is definetly the best book I've ever read. The main charactar is named Lyra. She is a young girl 12 years of age. She makes many explorations to the far north and is captured a few times. If you like fantasy you would seriously LOVE this book. It has a sequal called The Subtle Knife which is also VERY GOOD.
Rating: Summary: My all time FAVORITE book! Review: This is, without a doubt, the best book I have ever read in my life! Pullman does a terrific job in writing this book. It is a great page-turner, with problems right and left. I also really got to know the characters-I think that's really important. In my opinion, if you can't get a feel for the characters, it can't be that good. Lyra is such a daring, spunky girl, and is a real fast-moving character which is thrilling! I recommend this book to EVERY SINGLE PERSON LIVING IN THIS UNIVERSE!!!! (Yes, even adults!)
Rating: Summary: In my opinion, this book is one of the best written! Review: I believe that this book can easily be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages. It is extremely well worded, the characters well thought out, and the plot superbly crafted. It is a phenominal novel, and one which I couldn't put down once I started it. I especially enjoyed how it still bore a bit of similarity to our own world, while at the same time enveloping us in an amazing world of fantasy, which I simply had to succumb to. From the beginning chapters in stately Jordan College and the streets, roofs, and basements of Oxford, to the Royal Arctic Institute and the flat of Miss Coulter in London, to Bolvangar and Svalbard in the Far North, this incredible, phenominal novel was one engenious surprise after another. I reccomend that anyone who enjoys fantasy read it, and I also believe that if anybody who doesn't like fantasy reads this book, they just might start liking it.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED this book it was a great read! Review: This book opens your eyes to a whole world and explores the wonder of being a child, and the power of friendship please have the time of your life and read this book
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I've EVER Read. Review: This is THE BEST book I have ever, ever read
