Rating: Summary: You'll Love This Book! Review: This book was extremely good. It had all the elements of a classic novel: Many details, a beginning that starts you thinking, and a good, solid story that answers many of your questions from the beginning. Lyra and her daemon are two of the characters in books that you can easily agree with (usually).
Rating: Summary: The Golden Compass, the Subte Knife- soon, one more to come! Review: The many planned adventures of Lyra and her friends and daemon all start here in this full- of- action book. One day, she decided to go about and look in a room and ends up hiding in the wardrobe, hearing about an unusual partical called Dust. If you haven't read it- it's great! The His Dark Materials Trilogy is one trilogy you should read over and over again!
Rating: Summary: ***Great*** Review: I think this is a great book. There is a reasonable amount of things that could never happen in our world, but the story is really beliveable. Lyra (the main character) is a really cool kid, she is smart and very brave, two things which help her a lot in the maze of trouble she gets into.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Book! Review: I've been an avid reader of fantasy, both children's and otherwise, for years, and I have to say that this is one of the best and most "high impact" books I've ever read. If I had read it as a child, I would have adored it; reading it as an adult, I was thrilled by it. It's a story both imaginative and satsifyingly complex.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful fantasy Review: This book is one of the best works of fiction I have read. The second book is just as good. I await the third...
Rating: Summary: totally, utterly awful Review: I have never read a more poorly written book in my life. I'm an adult, but I like reading books for young adults. This book is very poorly plotted, is very uninvolving, and is generally written very sloppily. I had to give up 75 pages from the end, because it was so bogus. This author could not write a credible action sequence to save his life. The hero of the story does very little on her own behalf, takes very little initiative, very few risks. She just rides along like a good little princess. This book is also full of happy little patronising expository comments and lectures. It's like an episode of The Magic Schoolbus from PBS. This book is a drag anyway you slice it. If you want a good children's story adventure, read Robin Jarvis. You can order Jarvis's books from amazon.co.uk.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular audio version Review: Not only is the book great (my 11 year old daughter likes it almost as much as I do . . .) but the audio version is outstanding. It's got a full cast, not just one reader, and sounds like a radio play. The actors are excellent, with a wide range of British speaking styles. I can't wait to hear the audio of The Subtle Knife.
Rating: Summary: Audio version review! Review: Since plenty of people will write reviews of how excellent the story is, I will only mention the audio version specifically. It is a full-cast performance, well-acted and absorbing! I heartily recommend it as one of the most enjoyable audio books I have listened to, in every respect.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs way, way up! Review: This book is truly the crowning jewel of the fantasy world...as soon as you start reading it you get swept away in Lyra's world at Jordan College, and the book is nearly impossible to put down. The plot line is richly complicated, with twists and turns of good and bad alike. It is definetly the best book i have ever read, and the second I finished it it left me longing for the sequel, which is just as good as the first. I highly recommend it, as I am certain you will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS AWESOME! Review: This book is so awesome. I'm a kid and although the book was a bit hard, it was also so fun! I just love it! If you are considering buy it...don't! Just buy it without considering because it's my #1 favorite book of all time. I also reccomend the Subtle Knife - also a classic.
