Summary: The Giver by Chris Rees
Review: A perfect world, wow! My book is called the Giver it is by Louis Loury. The Publisher is Bantam DoubleDay Dell Publishing Group Inc. It was published in 1994. It is a must read! Jonas lives in a perfect world. He is 12 and an easy going person. In this world there is no color no joy and most of all no love. He has to bring these things upon them so he leaves the community. If you like fantasy, I am sure you will like The Giver. In the end he leaves for elsewhere. 10 to Adult would enjoy this book. Mostly a boy but it varies.

Summary: The Giver, Lois Lowry
Review: The Giver is a well-written and well-composed book. Lois Lowry, the author, deserves an award on the amazing job she did portraying the utopian ideals. This book is truly one of the best I have ever read. Jonas, the main character, is a smart and deep character. I could not put the book down. At first you truly believe that the society they live in is for the best. As you read on you learn more about the community and the way it works. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys an excellent book.

Summary: Not for pre-teens
Review: I was asked to read this book because it was assigned to 5th grade students. I must admit I had a variety of feelings concerning book as I read through the pages. My first reaction was of concern for the life style and some of the situations described. As I read further, I began to see some real value to the story and actually did enjoy the book. However, I do have concerns about this book being assigned to children younger than in the 7th or 8th grade. There is alot in this book which I think would be better for older children to read and discuss....not 11 year olds. Parents, if your child is asked to read this book or wants to read it on his/her own, I highly suggest that you read it first. If you think it is appropriate for your child, please take the time for discussion afterwards. This is not a light-hearted book.....

Summary: I thought the book was great!!
Review: I rated The Giver a 4 star because I like fiction books and The Giver kinda has a fairy tale twist to it. I didn't like the extra star that I didn't vote for is because I thought it was more of a young aldult book. The main subject in the book is when Jonas' family takes care of a little boy named Gabriel and then Jonas runs away with him. Then him and Gabriel run away to this village.

Summary: EXCELLENT!
Review: I read this book in 7th grade, and I am so glad it was assigned! Out of all the books I've ever had to read, this takes the cake! The plot of the story is extremely unique, as are the characters and events. Jonas lives in a controlled world where the people are virtually the same. These people know nothing of uniqueness and individuality. When Jonas turns 12, he is given the job of "Receiver of Memory" and must take on the memories of a man called The Giver. From then on, the pain and confusion Jonas must handle affect him and he has to make a decision. Argh, you really can't understand how wonderful the plot is until you read the book yourself. I promise, once you start reading, you will NOT be able to put this down until you know what is going on. Not only is the storyline itself genius, but the details are extremely interesting and will keep you turning those pages. The Giver carries several themes and messages that you'll be able to apply to your life right away. I won't reveal them now, but the book also has great symbolism which you may or may not pick up on depending on certain aspects. In any case, do not pass up this fascinating read. Even my 45-year-old mother thought it was incredible :-) Definitely worth your time and money!

Summary: The Giver- a critical review with my own opinion
Review: I read the book The giver within 2 days and one night - It was easy to read although it was ibn a foreign language(english) for me . I liked the thought of a 'perfekt' community. Alos I liked the impression that this community had to be interrupet by someone because people wanted to have their own choices. It showed me once more how we depent on the past and how things can chagne by our own exoeriences. I didn't like the though. It was so left open I evcen was thinking about writing an own en just to satisfy my thought how it possibly COULD end - The book by lois Lowry is somehow confusing as things just go along for the first - 8 - chapters - and thoughout the whol book everything is written in such detail form that you really have to stick to the book. Otherwise I would have been drifted away so quickly.

Summary: Perfect!!! Really Exciting and just plain Amazing!!!
Review: I totally reccomend this book. I had to read this book for my English class and at first I thought it would be really boring, boy, was I in for a suprise. This is one of my favorite books and this book actually teaches you a lesson-- Indivuality is very important and similarty is just plain boring. Accept people's unique traits, because that is what makes the world go round!!!

Review: Our world today is totally different than Jonas's world. I liked that noone in his world had bad memories about the past to deal with. Only the Giver and Jonas the Receiver of memories received the memories of pain and color. I also likedthat everyone over 12 had a job in the community. Those are some of the many reasons I liked this book.

Review: I think the book The Giver by Lois Lowry was a great book to read! I think it was a great book because it kept me reading the book and wanting to know what else was going to happen in the book next. I would rate this book a four and a half star book. If somone asked me if i would recomend this book to them i would because i think anyone would like this book if they are a good reader or if they arnt. The book is about a young boy named Jonas that lives in a community protected by the rest of the world. When Jonas turns 12 years old he is awarded the job of being that leader of the community. His training of learning all of the information he needs to know is a painful experence for him but after it is all done he feels really good. I dont want to say anything else and spoil the book for others that are going to read it.

Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowery, was a beautifuly composed book. The character Jonas lives in a utopian community where "Sameness" is a rule. There is no pain (emotional or physical)or fear, just perfect calm living, designed by the society around them. Jonas escapes from his community to try and find out what the rest of the world is like, where there is pain and emotions and feeling. This book gives a thought to how our society acts today and how our community effects us.
