Rating: Summary: Nice Change of Pace Review: "Ransom" was not Danielle's usual fare. It was more suspense than romance. The story developed well and kept a nice pace throughout. If you are a devoted DS fan, as I am, you won't be disappointed.

Rating: Summary: Need a New Editor? Review: I am a writer and copy editor and read novels as a means of escape from my own head! Naturally, I notice the writer's style and pay particular attention to detail. Having said all that, one might wonder why in the world I would read Danielle Steel! I have no logical explanation other than the fact that her books have become a habit with me that I can't seem to break. Every time I read one of her books, I say that it is the last, but, when a new one is released, there I go again.I will say that "Ransom" is not as bad as her last few. At least the plot is different and presents a new twist to her normal themes. There is actually some decent character developement in this one and it held my interest. Hence, the three star rating. What I did notice, though, is that the editing of this book is even worse than the last. I am wondering if she might need a new editor - one who knows how to use punctuation correctly. Are they teaching punctuation in college anymore? Some of the sentences in this book have so many commas in them, I got dizzy reading them. Steel also repeats the same words over and over again until the reader can almost anticipate their appearance. I just don't understand how these books get published without going through the same editing process that most authors must endure. As a writer, I know how painful it is to have my work dissected and rejected. When I read a book by a respected author, I expect to learn something about the process. But every time I read a book by this author, I get more frustrated with my own writing. A reader should note have to edit a published novel. Once again I ask the question - Danielle, do you need my help? Please let me know. I am ready and have "Ransom" marked up, ready for the presses!

Rating: Summary: NOT TOO BAD. Review: Lately I've found Danielle Steele's books to be a bit boring. Ransom wasn't too bad. It a totally different storyline than her other books which is probably why I bothered to finish it. But, I would wait until this book comes out in paperback or go to the library and take it out. It's not worth to spend the price of a hardback on it.
Rating: Summary: Ransom Review: Like the Editor who reviewd this book, I too keep telling myself that this will be the last Danielle Steel novel and I go right back and order her latest.
This one was disappointing and seemed very simply written. It was however, a lot better than her last few books.
I saw a lot of repitition also and I am not an editor.
Looking forward to Second Chances in the hopes that it is a vast improvement.
Rating: Summary: Danielle Give me a break Review: My husband has a theory that Danielle Steel has a dart board and each circle surrounding the center is labeled either, falls in love, loses family member, has death of loved-one,fights for life of herself or loved one, loses partner, business or spouse. He feels when she is at a loss she justs throws off a dart and whatever she hits becomes the outline for her next book.
I have been a loyal fan for many many years and take his kidding with a smile and secretly pray he's not right.
This book proved me wrong and he was right all these years.
It was so obvious from the first few pages what was happening that I was certain I had read this story before somewhere. After having waited long time to get this book from my local library I was so disappointed that it was so poorly written and so badly not thought through I couldn't even read it completely, but skipped sections to finish it, knowing what was going to happen before I got to it.
Rating: Summary: Wait until RANSOM comes out in Paperback! Review: Ransom is a book that starts out slow, but in the end all the reading pays off. Peter Morgan, a good guy gone bad, just gets out of jail and is forced to find a job. He calls on the up-to-no good Phillip Addison for help. The job he has for him is one that will make or break him. He is to kidnap dot-com millionare Allan Barnes's children. Fernanda his wife is left with nothing after the death of Allan. This book is wonderful in the sense that when the kidnapping takes place you see it from everyone's angle. I recommend the book to anyone.

Rating: Summary: A bit frustrating .... Review: Ransom is the first Danielle Steel novel I've read in a long time, and though I finished it, I don't think I'll be looking for any more. The plot itself was great - it is an intrigueing tale with many possibilities and likable characters. But reading it became so tedious... she is so very repititious, and her writing seemed to be geared toward elementary-aged children. I also found myself wondering about her editor, as another reviewer here did. I would find myself frustrated with her never-ending descriptions of the characters' feelings, and then had to hear most of them all over again. All in all, it was very handy when I was in bed and wanted to get sleepy!
