Summary: Getting Connected
Review: I cannot give a complete review due to the fact that I have not read the book all the way through yet. I first began reading this book in 1993 as part of a course I took in college. I felt something strong towards it almost from the very beginning, but did not complete the reading or the morning pages.

Due to many changes I have experienced in my life lately I decided to pick up the book again. I think the book is great, but I have not gotten to the great stuff yet, if that makes sense. I am about half way through the book, I am doing the morning pages, have not started the artist dates yet, but I have some questions and would like to know if there is an email address to contact the author.

Sincerely,

Dawn Dewar

Summary: This cassette series helped me discover my creativity.
Review: I had a 'personal retreat weekend' at my home. I began by listening to this tape on the way home from the office. Every word Julia spoke, spoke to me. I listened to it straight through and decided to begin my 'morning pages' right at that moment. The following day I found myself drawn to a music store searching for sheet music and investigating microphones so that I could begin projecting my voice. (an 'artist date'?). I re-listened to the tapes over and over again each time hearing something new, something fresh. My 'morning pages' the following day gave me insight to begin writing a book/journal. It just flowed out of me as easy as a song. Whatever you may be searching for..this audiobook can help you find it. Mary

Summary: Get Back On Track
Review: The title of this review tells it all. What most artists are lacking is someone to tell us that it's okay to be doing what we are doing and to learn how to incorporate that into our everyday lives. Julia Cameron does this! As you read each chapter you begin to notice an inspirational flow to your everyday life. As you complete the exercises you begin to say "WOW, look what I can do!"

I found myself 'starved' for each new chapter and couldn't wait until the next week when I could read some more. I have also found that her recommendations are ones that most successful artists use. Not to say that I did falter here and there along the way with my 'morning pages'. . . but I soon learned to love them and now right 'night pages' as well.

My main recommendation would be for anyone who needs a little (or I should say a lot) of inspiration or maybe some direction to get back on track. I'll definitely be keeping this book to refer back to in the years to come.

Summary: The Artist's Way
Review: I have been a full time artist almost 35 years. I earn all of my income from my art. I belieive God guides me as I paint and create. That is true for all of us if we just ask for guideness. I believe this book will help me practice that more and more. I am planning on great improvement in my art as I go through this book. I am on week one of the Artist Way, I know as I continue to do the exercises I will see a Great improvements in my art and my live. We must commit to compleating all of the exercises. What do we have to loose? Only 1/2 hour a day. We all waste that much. Make it fun.

Summary: The Artist's Way:A spiritual path to higher creativity
Review: I found this book to be fascinating. It helped me to look diferently toward my artwork, and it was a book long overdue. More artists should read it!

Summary: breaking down the barriers
Review: This book is one of the best books(life changing) that I have ever read. If your willing to do some work it can be a voyage of self discovery. I am feeling more creative than at any point in my life. As a by-product I am also happier and more content with myself and my life.

Summary: WE ARE ALL "ARTISTS" WITH OUR OWN UNIQUE ABILITIES!
Review: You do not need to be an artist in the sense of a gifted painter, sculptor, writer, musician, etc. to enjoy this book. We are all artists in that each of us designs, creates and shapes our own future. We make the choices that will determine where our paths will lead. The only limitations we have are those we place on ourselves.

Julia Cameron makes the journey a little smoother by helping us rid ourselves of life's negative emotions - fear, jealousy, guilt, limited beliefs, etc. While the book makes interesting and insightful reading, I think it is important to be committed to completing all the exercises for maximum benefit. The author does touch on spirituality and makes reference to God in several instances; however, whatever your own personal beliefs, the reader can easily adapt the material written here to any spiritual belief, regardless of what "Higher Power" you believe in.

Two other books which I highly recommend are "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise L. Hay, and "What's Next: Women Redefining Their Dreams in the Prime of Life", by Rena Pederson. Both are excellent books.

Summary: A journey to the summit
Review: Many "self-help" books are often quick reads that give us a moment of stimulation, a swift kick in the direction of changing things, make us commit to a project that "we'll start tomorow", only to get buried in the business of living a life of maintenance that begs not to be crowded with more lists. THE ARTIST'S WAY just simply is not in that category. Julia Cameron has presented the serious, spiritually directed person with a way to make significant change in the way we perceive the world....and more importantly in the way we perceive ourselves as a significant part of that world. The book is meant to unlock the creative artist within us. I think one of the best ways to approach this marvelous little tome is to just browse through it as a book, in one evening, just to get the lay of the land. THEN, if you feel commited to positve change in your life, start from page one, follow her path to the letter, and then - see if your image still fits into one mirror! This is an amazing, enriching, satisfying, warming pathway to self discovery....and worth the amount of commitment it takes. Thank you Julia Cameron!

Summary: Awakening
Review: The Artist's Way was introduced to me by a friend at work and quite honestly I didn't know whether or not I would last the distance. But last I did, and the healing and life-changing that occurred because of this 12-week exercise are now part of my everyday life. No, I don't still write every day, but at least twice a week, and when I'm having difficulty with something at work or at home. Writing is so beneficial, it's a way of discovering your inner creativity and/or exposing it. I would never have believed that I had a creative bone in my body until I read Julia Cameron's book. She is truly a great motivator and writes in a way that is clear and understandable - and believeable! I recommend this project for anyone who has perhaps lost their way, needs to rid themselves of the turmoil within, or just to start to enjoy life to the fullest and find a new you along the way.

Summary: Reacquaint yourself with your self
Review: Cameron's approach to reawakening the creativity that resided in all of us as children rests on two seemingly simple practices: commit yourself to three pages of journal writing every morning as soon as you wake up; and schedule a play date with yourself every week, for you alone, to share with no one else. What you discover about yourself as you write these pages and allow yourself the space to play might very well turn your world upside down. The rest of "The Artist's Way" discusses how to deal with the raw, emotional self that has been buried for so long, particularly the anger and grief that will likely emerge when you realize how much of yourself you have buried in your adult life.

These two simple actions are remarkably effective. Cameron encourages the reader to persevere, even if it means beginning by writing three pages of "This is stupid; I have nothing to write." It takes time to develop a relationship with anyone, even oneself.

Cameron's later books, "Vein of Gold" and "The Artist's Way at Work," merely reiterate, rather than develop, the themes she presents in this seminal work.
