Rating: Summary: Its ok Review: This book was good, I thought it was a good story and a nice plot. I did't mind reading it and I might read the others. I liked how you could relate to all the characters. I would like to read this book again in the future.
Rating: Summary: This book was beter than the movie. Review: This book is a nice story, not what I would pick off a shelf to read, but it showed what life was like in "the day". The movie, to someone that hasn't read the book, would be extremely confusing. The book was clearly organized better than the movie. This is a book I would recomend to someone who wants to read a book that has a setting when sharecroppers were common. I gave this book four stars.
Rating: Summary: the book is pretty sweet Review: The book Roll of Thunder in my opinion was a very good book. Even though the book was confusing because there was so many characters, I still enjoyed it. I think the book taught me a little more than i knew about how blacks were treated in the 1930's and the segregation that went on. The book was very detailed and written well. I liked the book and the many interesting things that happened. The book was also very suspensful. The only thing i did not like about the book is the way the book ended because it did not say anything about what happened to T.J.
Rating: Summary: The book it a lot better than the movie! Review: In my opinion the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry wasn't too bad. It was a lot better than the movie and more detailed. It was a good book for young adults. There were a lot of ups and downs through out the whole book. The only thing I didn't really care for about the book was all the characters. It got really confusing at times, you would have to be serious about the book and not just read here and there, you would have to stay with it. I learned a lot from the book, about the days when the blacks for treated terrible.
Rating: Summary: It's a LOT better than the movie!!! Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a good book. I liked reading it, but it had a few slow points. The book had suspense and showed what life was like when blacks were just starting to get the same rights as white people. The book goes in a logical order and it's one you will find hard to put down during parts; during others, you'll find it hard to pick up. It is full of things that make you laugh and believe they are onery kids just like everyone else. They show love and compassion for each other and enjoy each other's company. They get in fights as families do, but in general they get along. The book teaches you many details that you normally wouldn't think of because you aren't completely informed about what used to go on. This includes segregation. In my opinion...read the book!
Rating: Summary: A Book Review by Lee Review: Don't you hate how African Americans were treated after the Civil War. You don't, well the racism will smack you up side the head. No I mean that you will feel the hatred in those white mens eyes. In Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry there is so much racism that you jut want to yell stop, and fix it but you have to realize that this is semireal and it did happen. In the Logans family thier is Mama, Big Mama, Papa, Cassie, Stacy, Litte Man, Christopher-John, and Uncle Hammer. Mama Casies mom is nice and color blind she will let nice white men in but mean ones noway hosay. Big Mama is kind of the same way and so is everybody else but, Uncle Hammer and Cassie they have hot tempers and Cassie has a tricky mind. When Cassie accadently bumded into Lillian Jean she had to call her "Miz." So later on she was all nice then she as showing her something when he got her revenge. The Grangers are a family that had 1000 acers before the war and had to sell the land after it and are trying to take it back. I rate this book 5 out of 5 because it is dscriptive and fun. I like this book and recamend it to you.
Rating: Summary: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Brook Review: In this book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry it will put you in the shoes of an African American, who lived during the 1930's, when segrigation was supreme. This book desrves a five star rating because of how realistic it seems, it just sucks you in and turns you into the main character and shows you there problems and how they were solved. This book also shows you what it was like to be an African American in the south in the 1930's, it also shows the hardship of what they went thru, like how they got treated not listen to and walked on ! Since they had different skin color. When the KKK (Klu Klux Klan) comes the, most of the blacks life are threatened (by not treating blacks right). So you can see why this book deservse a five star rating for how realistic it is and seems, so that's why I gave it five stars.
Rating: Summary: Roll of Thunder, Hear my cry review Review: Thrills and spills, twists and turns, good and evil, awe, and revenge have been packed into another one of Mildred Taylors stories about the Logan family. ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY is a Newburry Award Winner that deseres a * * * * *( 5 star ) rating! This book is a realistic/historic fiction book about the Logan family, an African American family living in 1933, were segregation is like an unwriten law. Inheritng a farm from his father, "Papa" Logan wants to keep the farm so generations to come. However, a racial group of people called the Night-Men who are similar to the K.K.K., are tar and feathering, and burning the houses down of nearby African Americans. Will Cassie Logan and her three brothers survive, or become victims of true evil? This book deserves 5 stars! If you don't believe me, READ THE BOOK!!
Rating: Summary: roll of thunder review Review: I loved this book! It has it all. A great story that is all about family, friends, power, and another time. This story takes place in 1933. It is about racism and revenge.
Rating: Summary: describes a part of southern history Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, describes the hardships of a black southern family in the early 1930's. In the 1930's, black people were not treated fairly by white people. It was hard for a black family to own land, and owning land meant having freedom. Instead, black families would live on the land of white people. They would work for the white people on the white people's land. The Logan family was fortunate. They owned land so they didn't have to work on a plantation. However, the Logans were treated with the same injustice as the other black families. Mrs. Logan loses her job as a schoolteacher and the Logan family is almost forced to sell their land. I would recommend this book because is shows how black families in the south were underprivileged and provides inside about how this minority had to fight to earn equal rights and respect. It also portrays a contemporary black family of this time period. Be aware that this book clearly describes the hatred and contempt that was a part of this history.
