Rating: Summary: Thank you to my Core teacher who made me read this book! Review: I usually hate books that people make me read. I usually cant enjoy them because I know I have to remember every single fact about them. Ugh. But this book, set im Mississippi around the turn of the century is...amazing. I would give it more stars if I could but I cant. Its just so...wonderful. And it deals with other stuff besides slavery. At some point youll probably read this book in school. But while wait untill then? Pick up this book and read it. Im 12 but I recomend it for people as young as 10 and as old as...100! So gice this book a try. And if you like it...Mildred Taylor has wrttin many prequels and sequels. So this may be one of the few books worth the Newbeery it got.
Rating: Summary: Roll Of Thunder Review: This is a Great and intresting book about a poor black family in the 1930's. It follows a 1st person view of the familys young girl cassie who is a very intresting charcter. This great story takes you back to where blacks were thought of as somthing not human and this is something that young cassie cant understand. From A white girl calling he trash to he brothers friend being beaten she trys to understand what the difference is between black and white. In this great story it describes all of the troubles that this family faces and how they solve there problems. I found this book very intresting and I learned alot from it I reccomend this great book to anyone who loves to read.Dave

Rating: Summary: Exciting Review: I read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry as an assignment for a summer Children's Literature class at West Virginia State College. My professor Mr. Samples wanted us to read a Newbery Award winning book. I chose to read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and I am glad I did. This was a wonderful book full of excitement. I recommend this book to everyone, child to adult. The book truly gives the reader an opportunity to experience life in the 1930s as an African American. Mildred Taylor did an amazing job writing this book to make the reader feel as if they were actually in the story.
Rating: Summary: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Review: As an elementary education major as West Virginia State College, I am required to read several childrens books for my Childrens Literature course. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is one of the books that I had to read. This has to be one of my favorite books of all time! I love how the author uses the vivid language in telling this story and getting her point across.I know this book is considered a censored book, and I understand it's because of the language, but I think keeping this book out of the hands of children would be detrimental to their own selves as human beings. I would reccommend this book to anyone, child or adult, that enjoys hearing an excellent story about the south.
Rating: Summary: Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Review: Dear You, I recently read the amazing book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. The story is full of twists and turns for example Stacey has to attend school under his mothers direction, TJ wants to use Stacey to get answers to tests, and much more. If you are a lover of adventure and you can bear the painful parts in this story, like me you will love it. From Cassie's mouth to T.J's attitude. This book has you laughing one second and crying the next. Hope you enjoy it! From, Your Critic!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Read Aloud for Middle Schoolers Review: I really enjoyed this book on many different levels. I think it was a great read aloud for my 6th grade students. The way the book was written lends itself to an easy southern accent, which made it fun for me to read aloud. However, more than that, I loved to watch my students react to the book. In a middle schooler's mind, fairness is very important, and this book showed how unfair the world can be. I was a little dismayed reading a few of the negative reviews. I cringed when I saw some reviews saying, "just another slavery story." Perhaps this story doesn't make everyone's top 10 list, but it is definitely a work of literature to be respected for it's description, plot, character development, and as a tool for students to analyze fairness. A+++++++ This book comes highly recommended not only by me, but by all of my 11-13 year old students!
Rating: Summary: Nice story but Cassie got on my nerves a bit! Review: I loved the Logan story but I felt the main character, Cassie, was a bit naive to be growing up in Mississippi 1933. I mean, she said and did somethings to white people that could have gotten her whole family killed. I thought they raised her too protected so she made some situations dangerous for her family. I felt for T.J. but I guess the author had to make him the bad guy to counter Cassie's personality. T.J. and Cassie were a lot alike except T.J. didnt have the benefit of a strong family structure to protect when he did stupid things like Cassie did when she did stupid things. Notice how opposite their fathers were? All in all, a good read...
Rating: Summary: A Truthful Work of Fiction Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is one of my favorite books, not only because it reflects my heritage, but I liked how Ms. Taylor wrote it, using her father's family stories and weaving them into the book. The part I liked the best, even though it was sad, was when Mama told Cassie about racists and how they think. I also liked the parts when Cassie and her grandmother were in Strawberry, even though that was a sad part too, but it shows how painful history and the truth is. I think this book should be on all school reading lists, and I think it deserved the Newbery Medal that it won in 1977. I also enjoyed the talks Cassie had with her parents, and how much the family loved and cared about each other. It really shows how much some families miss these days.
Rating: Summary: Unoriginal Bore Review: This book is a total copy off almost every other book about racisim in the 1930's. It does not show any signs of creativity or thought on the author's part. The whole book had no plot and the author did not even attempt to make it unique. [...]
