Rating: Summary: A powerful and dramatic story, which brings truth... Review: "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" is a story of a strong and independent black family. They never gave up on life's toughest times. The Logan family refused to be taken as inferiors. Their pride was something that could never be taken away from them. No one was strong enough to ever take them down. This is a story of courage and pride. I really liked this book. The Logan family realized that nothing could be changed unless faced. It brings a truthful and captivating story upon the eyes of millions.
Rating: Summary: This is a really cool book but a sad one too. Review: I read it from school I thought it would be boring but I ended up buying the whole trilogy from Amazon.com.
Rating: Summary: great!!!! it really made you think Review: I was given this book by my teacher. I thought I wouldn't like it, but as soon as I got in to it I realised it was so good, I just couldn't put it down. I then gave to the rest of my family and they read it aswell, and their reviews were as good as mine. THANKYOU MILDRED FOR WRITING SUCH A WONDERFUL BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A must read historical fiction novel!!! Review: I was required to read this novel for my English course just a couple of weeks ago. In the book, Mildred Taylor depicts the life of a little black girl in the 1930's with the utmost detail. In my class, we had discussions about reading between the lines and not taking in the literal meaning of the quotes. Mildred Taylor shows that you must first have pride in who you are before you take any further actions. It was so sad and touching yet so triumphant. Through this book, the life of a black in the 1930's fully shines through. The book also shows the inequality and hatred that fills each persons mind. Overall,I give the book an A+++. I really enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD!! Review: It's a very moving story that makes the reader feel what the African Americans felt during the Great Depression. Mildred Taylor had written several other books but I think this one is the best of them all.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Book of a Families Life Review: This book had all of the emotions found in very few books. The author included a vivid description of life for a black family in Alabama. The family tries to keep their land even though the father of the family is gone for the beginning of the book. All of the characters are describe with a vivid detail and description on their personal feelings. The main character Casey who is a young girl describes how her family lives through the hardships Blacks faced in the forties. EXCELLENT BOOK! Great for book reports.
Rating: Summary: A very well written book. Review: "Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry," was a very good book I thought. The author used details very well in describing the characters personalities, this help to understand how each character was. The story gave me a vision of how things were back in the day after slavery was ended. The author really knew how to catch the readers attention, like she did to me. Once I got into a good part of the book I didn't want to put it down. I recommend this book for people to read.
Rating: Summary: PERFECT! Review: I love this book! It is a great book. I read it in a group and they wouldn't let me read more then our assignment. I couldn't wait to read more and more.
Rating: Summary: I think this book is a wonderful book for children to read! Review: I think this book is great! I recently read it for my college children's literature class. I think she did a great job of developing the characters and really made you feel like you were living in their shoes. I think it is very educational for children to learn about what African Americans went through in the south during that time period! I'm very glad she won the Newbery Award in 1977. She deserved it!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This is a wonderful book. Review: This book is excellent. I had to read it becaue my teacher assigned and I thought I wouldn't like itI sure was wrong. After about the first chapter I really started getting in to it. I didn't but it down all weekand instead of watching TV I read. That is saying alot for me. The hardships that Cassy has to go through are unbelivable. I think everybody should read this book.
