Rating: Summary: Sad and realistic, but beautiful Review: Cassie Logan is a nine-year-old coloured girl, who can't accept the fact that white people rule the world. It's hard for her to realise that some people are mean to her and her family, simply because of their skin colour. Mildred D. Taylor describes beautifully how most coloured people were treated those days. Some gave in, others stood up to them and paid for it, while some did nothing at all. It's amazing how well most of the characters stand out clearly. Most of them are very different, so you can imagine how different coloured people would have handled the same situation. I recommend this book to read. YOU WON'T FEEL THE SAME AFTER YOU FINISHED IT!
Rating: Summary: I really liked the book Review: I liked the book 'Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry'. I liked it, because it gives a clear picture of what it was like for blacks to live in the south of America. I liked the bit where Cassie pretends to be Lillian Jean's friend, because she gets back at Lillian Jean for the time that Lillian Jean's father made Cassie apologize for bumping into Lillian Jean. The book is also about friendships between all kinds of people. For example, T.J. and Stacey, Mr. Morisson and Papa. Some of the friendships are good, but some are bad. I really liked the book and I would recommend it to everybody.
Rating: Summary: wonderful book would to tell others to read it for content Review: I loved reading this book there were so many hidden details in it that made it impossible to put down. All the little details made the book so absolutely wonderful to read. Now I have to find the sequils!!!! It's just so wonderful that it's hard from keeping the beens in the sack so to speak. I want to tell! 5 stars all the way!!!
Rating: Summary: The book was sort of nice. Review: The book was nice, but I won't go further than that. The book is well written and the characters are realistic but I am not all too interested in racial problems. In Holland we don't discriminate too much so it is pretty far off for me. Still the book was enjoyable to read and it could make me angry or happy sometimes. I am a bit annoyed by the political-correct aura that hangs around this sort of books: if you dont like this book then you're a racist. But when you like the subject and/or Oprah Winfrey this book shall do very fine. P.S. I is we and we were sent by J. Mulder.
Rating: Summary: This book left me hanging on the edge of my seat! Review: This book is very interesting. I had to read it for a school project and i'm glad i picked this book because it really helped me realize what the blacks really had to go through and that wasn't even 1/2 of it. I recommend it to everyone because it was such a heart warming book.
Rating: Summary: It was a great book Review: This is a great book. The more you read the more suspenseful and interesting it got. It is sad though that the ending just leaves you hanging on how they're going to get through the summer. This book is very well written. I think the way they showed the racism is just amazing. It shows that the white people in the 1930's thought just because their skin is white they are superior over black people. It is just terrifying the torture the whites put the blacks through.
Rating: Summary: finding out how the world is devided in black and white Review: Roll of thunder, hear my cry is an intriging book written for children of 9 to 12. Topic is the discrimination of blacks in a community in which all the rules and regulations are made by white people. The children that play the mainroles in the book are unaware of the fact that white people have a different status than they have. The books follows the path of the children Logan that will lead them to understand that white people have more privileges than black people in this world. The children experience their own difficulties and problems with this knowledge. They learn how to be a good black person in order to be able to live with whites. But they don't like it.
Rating: Summary: Very sad & lively Review: The reson I enjoyed this book is it shows how one person can make a diffence. It's a story how blacks survive. It's one of my favorite books. I enjoyed it. You should read this book & learn more about the book!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Book, very interesting Review: The story is set in the 1930's in Mississippi and that is a place that is hard for a black child to grow up in. The story centres on the Logan family, a black family that is struggling to survive in the 1930's. A nine-year-old of the Logan family, Cassie, tells the story. The Logan family has land of its own which means that they are very lucky because in that time most people didn't have land of their own, they used land of someone else and had to pay them for it. The land hadn't always been Logan land, Cassie's grandpa had bought it during Reconstruction and the son of the former owner is trying to get it back. This is only one of the many problems in the book but it is one of the biggest. Most of the problems in the book have something to do with the fact that the Logan family aren't going to give up their land. I really liked the character Cassie in this book. I especially began to like her when she made a fight with the shopkeeper in Strawberry, she was really shocked when she was called a "Ni**er". Cassie grows up together with her three brothers, Little Man, Stacey and Christopher-John, they do many things together and never let one of them do anything by themselves, they support each other always. I am not going to tell you more about it's contents because I think that you have to read the book yourself because only then you will know what I am talking about. You would then see for yourself what a fantastic book this is. When I had read the Author's Note I became really curious about the rest of the book. I liked the way the author, Mildred D. Taylor had written her first part. It didn't take me a long time to read the book because it was very interesting. I had learned about that time in Mississippi during my history lessons, but I had never read a book about it. Now that I have read about it I would also like to read the sequels "Let the Circle Be Unbroken" and "The Road to Memphis" because I am curious what would happen after this book: would the Logan family be able to keep their land?
Rating: Summary: A powerful novel Review: After reading this book as a reading assignment, I found out how life was in the 30s' for African Americans. This is a perfect work of Historical fiction which will grip you in it's fist till the last page. The last two chapters will make you cry.
