Review: Imagine a story about an African American family trying to live their lives and keep their land dealing with physical and verbal racism and you've got Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry. This is a great book to read if you want intensifying moments that make you feel like one of the characters. I really liked this book and I would recommend it to ANYONE! I liked the way the Logan's fought for their freedom and land. In this book the Logans have to really fight for their land and fight for their lives because the whites are trying to take their land away and hurt them. If this book was to be rated out of 10, I would give it an 11! Be sure to read Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry.

Review: Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry is the best book I have ever read.This book has inspired me in many ways and it made me want to know more about my cullture. I think everyone should read this book and parents should read this book to their children. This book is down to earth. My two favorite characters are Lil Man and Big Mama. I like Big Mama because she reminds me much Of my Grandmother she has her own relationship with everyone she treeats everyone different but she stills shows them love. I like Lil Man because he was so cute and he was just clean and he speaks up for himself .I liked the fact that when he was in school and he didn't like the fact that he was getting white peoples old books and he got a beating in class all because he sttood up for what he believed in.

Review: This book was very dramatic. That's what I love about it. It tells me more about blacks being herassed and it makes me feel bad that it still happens today. The book teaches people what it feels like to be in the lower class, just because of our skin color. It teaches a lesson in life that no person can teach another on there own. I think that if you read this book, you'll learn more about discrimanation than a history book can. This book changed my way of thinking. It could change yours.

Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is an excellent book. It is a story of the Logan family. It was the year of the nightriders and the burnings. In the story Cassie, a young African American girl, which was humiliated in public by a white girl in public, simply because she was black. Cassie's family is very proud of their land. They pick berries and play hide-and-go-seek in the woods, which you'll read in "Song of the Trees". The story is about pride, strength, respect, and courage! I would strongly recommend this book because it is about a family who stands up for what they believe in.

Review: When the Logan family bought the land everybody in Mississippi was upset. "Black people shouldn't own land," the white people would say. But the Logans didn't listen to them. Life was hard for the Logans. A lot of white people didn't like them so they tried to get them to move out of Mississippi. One day a man tried to take the Logan's land away, but that didn't move the Logans. The Logans were tough. They were just like normal people. They didn't like to be called names because of the color of their skin, and they didn't like to be spat on. The summer of 1933 was the hardest for the Logans. That was the summer when Cassie and her brothers were laughed at. That was the summer when the night riders came. That summer Cassie cried and she laughed. That was the summer that changed Mississippi. I think Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry that was the most amazing book I have ever read. It was so good that I couldn't put it down. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry shows how life was back in 1933. It was very hard for black and whites then. There was a lot of racism in Mississippi in 1933. It was hard to live in a place and feel safe. I loved this book and would give it 10 stars. Anyone that loves GOOD books should read it. This book keep me on the edge of my seat. It was funny and it was sad. It was the BEST!

Review: Roll of Thunder Hear my cry was a great book. It was surprizing, emotional. It teaches that black and whites are equel. Some parts of the book taught you not to do stuff. It talked about respect, trustworthyness, and best of all friendship. Very very powerful words. Made you feel like you were walking by Cassie (the main character)This book is about a girl named Cassie who has situations that are hard to solve. She is African-American so people don't treat her well. Lots of characters that teach lessons and things that would happen to you everyday if you were African-American at this time. I would recommend this book to people who like sad books but also books that teach you to do and not to do things. Overall the book is the best!

Critical Review For: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry: By Mildred D. Taylor

Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry BY Mildred D. Taylor is a great book showing you, the reader, the harsh realities of prejudice through the eyes of a child. I felt that this book helped me to understand prejudice in a more complex way. Ms. Mildred Taylor has a strong message and she chose to bring it to us through the young character, Cassie. I believe that she succeeded in sending this message.

In this story, Cassie is telling the story of her family and friends. I thought this was very well thought out, because sometimes children are set aside as "too young to understand", when in reality they are the ones who are witnessing it all. They are the ones that need to be taught about these hardships so they could understand. Ms. Taylor knew this very well. This is one of the book's strongest aspects. I feel that if this book would've been told through an adult's views, there would have been much more anger and hostility. When Cassie tells it, you see and almost feel the innocence that she has inside her. You see the problem of prejudice the way it should be seen, with a clear mind, so that it could be fixed.

The characters in this book were also very good. You had people of almost every personality, and almost every age. My favorite ones, however, were Little Man and Christopher-John. Although they were very close in age, they were also very different.

Christopher-John is much calmer about the things they go through. He seems to find a more cheerful way to deal with it instead of getting mad about the situation. He is the brighter figure in this book. Christopher-John is the one who could probably keep you from going and beating someone up. He could probably make you smile by simply looking at his face.

Little Man, on the other hand, gets very angry about their problems and doesn't stay quiet about it. He is young and chooses to just speak his mind. This could be a good or a bad thing. It could be good because you know how he feels and are able to help him with his feelings. However, it could be a very bad thing, considering their situation of prejudice. The white people did not tolerate the kind of behavior that Little Man portrayed. So he could've gotten in a lot of trouble. However, this is what makes him my favorite character. He speaks his mind and doesn't think anything of it.

Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone over the age of ten. The reason I say ten is because I feel that that is the age when they would probably start to understand the hardships presented in this book. I thought this book was really good and I could tell you right now that I really do not like to read. So, for a book to be able to grab me the way this book did takes a very good book.

Summary: The most interesting book ever wrote
Review: I read this book for an accelerated reader test. As I got into it though I experienced emotional feelings. It's about a black and white community who do not mix very well together. Most of the black families work on farms. They work very, very hard , but still barely are able to feed their families. The best part of this book is the feelings and tasks of the people. At the end everyone helps out with a diaster that erupted in the forest. It was kind of like a peace treaty between races. This is a great book and I hope you read it and find out.

Review: This is one of the few books that stands the test of time, and will hopefully remain as it is today. It DESERVED a Newbery.

Cassie lives in Mississippi during the Great Depression with her family, facing discrimination and racism and simple rotten odds. They attempt to hold on financially and emotionally despite the assaults on their dignity and the way they want to live their lives. Prejudice does not stop them, no matter what the situation. Cassie and her brothers learn about racism and in their learning, learn strength.

The writing style is good, dragging you into the story and refusing to let go. In the manner of "Devil's Arithmatic," this story conveys the horror of racism to kids without being graphic or violent to do so. Mildred Taylor's words carry the emotions to the reader in simplicity rather than relying on emotional manipulation, as many historical books do.

Cassie is an excellent character, one who seems devoid of the artificial attitude and cynicism that is in many book characters who face problems such as prejudice. Her parents and brothers are a little more in the background, but also seem very real.

This is an excellent book, one worthy of many, many rereadings. All kids should read it!
