Rating: Summary: ROLL OF THUNDER Review: This book is about a girl named Cassie, and she has 3 brothers:Lil Man, Christopher-John, and Stacey. She lives with her 3 brothers, her parents, and her grandma(big ma). One day, when they went to Strawberry, the man at the register waited on everybody exept for Cassie, her brothers, and T.J, because they are black. And when they were leaving, a white girl named Lillian Jean, bumped into Cassie. Then Lillian Jean's dad made Cassie say," I'm sorry 'Miz' Lillian Jean." Cassie was very upset.I thought Lillian should of apologize. The whites have 2 buses and the blacks don't have any.I think they should have a bus too. And when the driver drives by Cassie her brothers and there friends, he splashes them with the mud and water. Will it stop? Read the rest of the book to find out! This is a very good book you should read it!!

Rating: Summary: A great book Review: I had to read this book for school and when my teacher passed the books out I was one of the many of us that groaned. I used to think that all books we read at school were horrible! This book changed that. My teacher assigned us to read like the first three chapters. I started reading and I couldn't stop! I read the whole book in one night! This book is a page turner. This book was the first one that I read that illustrated the descrimination of the south from the perspective of a black person. I found this book intriguing and recommend it to anyone who likes a good book!
Rating: Summary: a favorite from grade school Review: I discovered this book in the school library back in the 1980s and read it over and over. Here is a realistic gripping tale of racism and segregation in the 1930s, told by the viewpoint of 9-year-old Cassie Logan.Over the course of a couple of years, you watch Cassie grow as she realizes the ugliness of the world around her. I especially admired her in the episode where she pretends to be a white girl's servant for a month to lull her into a false sense of security before beating her up. Cassie's family has their own farm, and it is quite an achievement, but they have a fragile hold on it as other forces threaten to take it away. In the racial climate of the day, losing the land would be tragic. Colorful characters dot the book and round out the story: Cassie's myriad brothers, her flashy Uncle Hammer, the kids' rascally friend TJ who takes his cockiness too far. This is a great book that every schoolkid should read, whether it is on the curriculum or not. It wasn't mandatory for me, but I am very glad I found it and read it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful teaching. Review: How would you feel if you were black, and didn't know why whites were treating you badly? Cassie has her freedom on her family's land, but most whites push her around whenever they can. She goes through many experinces with racism. After their family tries to het the local families to change their ways, Cassie's family gets threatened. They have to live through it together without losing their land. When I read this book, it made me realize that blacks never had, and have, it very good. It inspired me to think more about getting to be more friendly with people of other colors. One downfall of the book was that Taylor jumped around alot, in my opion. However I was really glad I read this book.
Rating: Summary: Roll of Thunder Review: This book was educational for me about black's history. It was Great literature, but it wasn't my style of book, I did however learn how blacks were treated in post-slavery South. I liked Stacey alot, Cassie Was an interesting character, I liked her because she was kind of a rebel. I would recommend this if you like serious literature.
Rating: Summary: Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Review: I just finished Mildred D. Taylor's book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and it was a good book. I liked it because it was sort of an adventure. I didn't know anything about night riders until this story. It is sort of a good book. I would recommend it to you if you like to have some laughs or some mystery.
Rating: Summary: In Justice's of the 20's Review: I enjoyed Milfred D. Taylor's book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. I enjoyed it because it gave me a better understanding of what happened between whites and blacks when they were better known as enemies. This book is taking place during the Depression. This excellent book is about a family (the Logans) that are having troubles with certain whites and keeping their land. Further through the story Mrs. Logan (the mother) gets fired from her job. Mr Logan gets a broken leg and gets shot. But if you would want to find out how, you would have to get this excellent book and read to find out.
Rating: Summary: An Educational and Emotional Novel Review: This novel was great to read. The purpose of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry was to tell about racism in the early 1900's. The story is told through the eyes of a young African-American girl named Cassie Logan and her life in the south. Mildred D. Taylor created characters that I empathize with. Although this story is historical fiction, it gives us a good way to understand how black people were treated in the south. The novel shows the Logan family having pride, love, and independence. This book was very emotional and educational for me. I recommend this book to anyone interested in American history.
Rating: Summary: So Interesting Review: This is about Cassie and her family. Its about a black family who are trying to save the Logan land. Why is the land so important to the Logans? Its about blacks against whites. Its really good but is very sad.
