Rating: Summary: The best diet ever... Review: I tried them all...the Drinking Man's Diet, the Pritikin diet, the Ornish diet, the Atkins diet. I reluctantly tried the South Beach Diet after friends urged me to try it. While Atkins encourages eating fat...Agatston advises eating more chicken and fish and vegetables. He suggests utilizing GOOD fats such as olive oil and canola oil...and cutting back on red meat but not eliminating it all together. He encourages breast of chicken rather than eating the dark meat and skin. He encourages eating fish with high alpha omega oil content. He encourages eating vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes and leafy greens such as spinach and salads. He encourages you to eat nuts. With Atkins such foods are more limited. The South Beach Diet does not require you to count carbs...you're encouraged to eat till you're satisfied. I find it very easy to stick to this diet...and the pounds are coming off. This is the sort of diet you can live with for life and not be concerned as much about bad fat clogging your arteries or putting you in danger of contracting various types of cancer.
Rating: Summary: First and only diet I'll ever be on. Review: My lady and I both let ourselves go a little bit since college. We got fed up after a while and started working out, eating low-fat/low-calorie foods, going to nutritionists. Nothing really seemed to work. Scepticly we tried SBD; joined the website. It's been 6-weeks and I lost 24 of the 40 pounds I wanted to lose and my lady only has 6 pounds to go for her goal weight and she basically has to buy a whole new wardrobe. This diet works. It requires discipline but if you can follow it and learn how to adapt your lifestyle to it you will lose weight and feel better then you ever have in your entire life. We've already inspired a lot of friends and family to try it as well and it is working for them too. It's amazing how cutting out sugar almost completely can make this much of a difference. The meals are excellent, the options are plentiful and once you get past the first few weeks and learn how to adapt what you like to the plan it becomes a simple diet to follow.
Rating: Summary: call me a sceptic Review: I used to be overweight, then I bought the book "The south beach diet"; now I am still overweight but 18 dollars poorer.
Rating: Summary: Fifteen pounds off in two weeks Review: All right, I'm a lard mountain and I have about 60 pounds to go before hitting the beach with any confidence. I'm actually combining this diet, while referring to a couple of others, including the best sellers. This way I feel in more control, which is what you need to feel. I've been huge for nearly eight years, and I'm now sick of it enough to make big things happen. For motivation, I've been reading an amazing book called IN THE GHOST COUNTRY, about a guy who eats 7000 calories of butter and olive poil a day and yet starves to death because he's hauling a sled to the South Pole. On the way, the ghost of his mother comes to keep him company. It's a true story, and it's a great metaphor for anybody carrying a curse. (Like an extra 80 pounds.)
Rating: Summary: South Beach Diet is a Winner! Review: This is one of the best diets, I have ever been on. A friend and I decided to go on this after years of eating too much. So far, she has lost 12 lbs and I have lost 9 lbs in two weeks. She has decided to stay on Phase One and I have moved onto Phase 2. I only have to lose 20 lbs. I love the recipes, they are all so tasty.I have more energy. We both go for walks often. I'm a diabetic type 2 so for me this is a health saver. The only downfall I can see for myself and my friend is a lot of preparation and dishes, I have not had to wash so many dishes!Ha! Never the less, I have really enjoyed it and eating out has never been so easy. We went out to eat this evening and I ordered marinated chicken and it came with a baked potatoe and a salad. I gave the potatoe to my husband and I ate the rest. I'm looking forward to the Dr's new cookbook and I want to thank him for this new diet!
Rating: Summary: Seen It Work Fast, Repeatedly. A Sensible Short-Term Plan. Review: I have watched many people use this plan successfully. Often various other approaches were tried with no effect before the South Beach plan was used. These people ate out with no difficulties. They ate portions that filled them up. They ate lots of healthy foods and avoided unhealthy foods. Given that people are quickly making major improvements with their weight, and often therefore their health & fitness, and given that there are good carbs and less saturated fats in this plan, I highly recommend the South Beach Diet as a short-term approach. Rating: Summary: Lost 17 lbs. in 5 Weeks so far; my wife lost 10. Review: This diet works, and with little exercise, too. It changes the way you think about food. Found it very easy to follow the concept; you don't need to slavishly follow the recipes day by day. Just avoid the "foods to avoid" and enjoy the "foods to enjoy". Duh! My big problem was the sweets: candy, cookies, etc. The first two weeks--Phase One--gets to off the sugar train and now I don't miss them.. I ACTUALLY PREFER veggies! Amazing. Grill some salmon and steam some broccoli or cauliflower or the like. Not hungry between meals... Cons: You do have to shop a little more and it's not as fast as throwing a pizza in the oven or ordering take-out Chinese, but hey...its better than staying fat. Now on Phase Two and hope to lose another 13, for a total of 30, which would put me at 188.
Rating: Summary: Be Careful Review: The science behind this diet is basically the same as the science behind the Atkins diet. To carve out his own niche, doctor Agatston has jumped on the "Atkins is too extreme" bandwagon. Since this diet is essentially the Atkins diet, the good news is that is works. The bad news is that in his effort to come off as less extreme as Atkins, it is much easier to "cheat" on the this diet. That is why we see several reviewers who report failure. If you read this book in addition to Atkins, you will quickly notice that SBD Phase III is basically the exact same thing as Atkins Phase IV (these are the life-long maintence phases, for those of you who are unfamiliar with these books). What this means is that when you get to your ideal weight, you will be eating the same stuff, whether it be on Atkins or the SBD. The difference is that achieving your ideal weight is MUCH easier and more systematic when following Atkins. This is a great book and it will work for most people. But if you're one of the people for whom it is ineffective, bear in mind what I've just said. Good luck to all of you. I hope you all achieve your health goals.
Rating: Summary: help Review: I want someone to write a book where you will lose weight by just reading the book. is there anything like this because I dont want to get off my couch.
Rating: Summary: It works--you'll lose the beer belly, guys Review: I started the diet a month ago at the urging of my wife, who also is losing weight on it. I haven't done a lick of exercise, but I'm sure I would have lost even more had I done that. I am down 14 pounds after 4 weeks. It didn't hurt a bit, and if I can do it--being Mr. Potato Chips & Dip--you can too! Yeah, you'll probably be eating more salads than you used to, but it's all good stuff. I wouldn't bother with the recipes, because you can come up with your own ideas that are just as good, but they are there as suggestions. Trust me--I was skeptical and I would have dropped it like a hot potato (no pun intended) had it not worked. But I have changed my way of eating forever.
