Summary: Change Your Focus
Review: There must be something about The South Beach Diet that makes it so popular. However, I think that we in North America, while chasing the perfect body, forgot about what really matters - the perfect health.

I am a creature that trusts everybody, but not without a dose of skepticism. Therefore I always make a point of trying new approaches on my own before expressing any opinion. After going trough The South Beach Diet I realized that Agatston is just an updated version of good old Dr. Atkins. Although these two low carb approaches certainly bring good results from the point of loosing weight, I am not really convinced that this is what one needs to focus on. First of all, it is a hard diet to follow, and sooner or later one is bound to break some of the rules. Secondly, I find that in a healthy diet we need carbs the same way as we need fats and proteins.

Out of all approaches to losing weight, the one that makes most sense to me is presented by Dr. Tombak in his book "Can We Live 150 Years?" Using non-commercial, simple language he talks abut all aspect of health and longevity. Following some simple food combination guidelines, and not letting your stomach direct your actions are the basic things that one needs to do. As Dr. Tombak advises: "Eat to live instead of living to eat!"

The interesting thing is that once I started following his guidelines I lost about 10 pounds within a few weeks without ever focusing on losing weight. I was more concerned about proper nutrition and healthy life style more than anything else. Loosing weight was just a pleasant byproduct of my new lifestyle.

But that is not all. It turns out that improper diet is only one of a few causes of obesity for many people. Mr. Tombak names other, less known causes of the problem and he also suggests the ways of dealing with them. Some of the suggestions can be found, without buying the book, at the publisher's website www.starthealthylife.com . Check it and see it for yourself - maybe some of it makes sense after all...

Summary: It works!
Review:
I had so many friends who have lost weight on this diet that I had to try it. The hardest part was giving up my evening wine for the first two weeks, but I love the food. Also -- I sleep better on this diet than I did on the Atkins diet.

Review: Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food has gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this.
This book is truly a gift to share with others. Just like my new beverage of choice that replaced my morning brew. Its called s oyfee and taste so wonderful with no caffeine or acids. Organic and made from soya! Bye bye acid stomach and hello healthy tummy! Google it under "acid free coffee"

Summary: Short Term Great - Long Term???
Review: This book like so many other books out there on dieting addresses a growing problem in America called obesity. I found this to have great initial results, however, I reached a point and the gains (loses) stopped. My problem with all diet books including this one is this. I think the term "diet" is the problem. America is looking for someone to save us. We over-eat for decades, buy a diet book and expect it to correct the problem. Though this book offers some good suggestions I am not sure it is sustainable. So as for my rating 4 stars for offering some help and advice. I think the rest is up to us. We need to get off of "diets" and change our lifestyles
