Review: There are lots of favorable reviews for this potboiler, which I simply don't understand. The plot is simultaneously full of holes, full of coincidences that crush any suspension of disbelief, and almost completely predictable. Anyone who doesn't figure out "who dun it" by the middle of the book just isn't paying attention, and the final plot twist is so clearly telegraphed that it's just a relief when it's finally over. The characters are cliches, the angst of the central character generates no sympathy, the egregious use of over-the-top methaphor and simile is numbing, and this male author should be legally prohibited from trying to write sex scenes from a feminine perspective. Only those indulging a mild curiosity about sexual sadism would enjoy any part of this. In the interest of encouraging quality in the genre, please do not purchase this book.

Summary: Interesting and a lot of fun
Review: Lindsay Boxer is a very likeable character because of her professional integrity and her personal fight with an illness she can't control. I could relate to her struggles because I am also a woman with an active career (school psychologist) and a serious illness(congestive heart failure). I understand Lindsay's fight to maintain her personal life and professional life while undergoing medical treatments. Patterson created a story that made me care about the mystery as well as the characters' personal lives. There are many twists in the ending that kept me guessing. I listened to this book on CD and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Review: Patterson confirms his talent yet again in this novel. He does a great job putting you in San Francisco. I really enjoy his characters and the fact that he doesn't abandon them once the novel has ended.

I think this makes for a good book and a better follow-up. This book is great and once you read 2nd Chance you will like it even more.

Patterson is extremely easy to read and yet doesn't insult your intelligence with thin storylines and that do not require intellect.

Review: This is the 1st book I read by James Patterson. I really love it and I'm only 14 years old. This book has very good suspense and a good plot. James Patterson is at the top of his game. But I highly recommend this book. Highly. This book is good enough to buy not checkout at the library.

Review: Four professional women on their way up unite their training and talents to solve a case- -twice. The story begins with shocking murders and plodding police work and proceeds to a couple of great twists.

I read the MS-Reader (LIT) edition on my Pocket PC with 1,430 (small) pages; the hardcover edition is 424 pages.

I've read a number of Patterson's books and this is one of his best. The plot is set in San Francisco. Perhaps I liked the story so much because I grew up in The City.

Summary: One of the worst books I have ever read
Review: The plot twists are ridiculous and cheap. Flat and unbelievable characters. The females are portrayed as embarrassing stereotypes; over-emotional - a lot weeping and bonding. Apart from having a juvenile's concept of women in general, apparently James Patterson also lacks a basic understanding of the science of forensics or police methodology. Not good for a crime novelist.

Summary: A Fast-Paced Thriller
Review: I made the mistake of reading the second book in the Women's Murder Club series first, but I enjoyed that one so much that I wanted to read the first. I found the first book to be every bit as good as the second, and in fact I think I enjoyed it more. Patterson does really vile villains really well! This book has a particularly odious one. Lindsey and her pals work really hard together to get the evidence they need to make a good arrest. But then things go awry. Do they actually have the right person? They go on another tear to find another murderer. Before they're done Lindsey suffers an appalling loss, and Patterson's final twist at the end of the book will get his readers right in the solar plexus. Great read!

Summary: Too many twists.
Review: I've read a few James Patterson novels, and I find this one to be the worst. 1st to Die starts out with a lot of promise and suspense, but takes a downward spiral turn once we think the detective has the killer in her clutches.

The biggest problem is the twists. There are simply too many. It causes the plot to become confusing as well as unbelievable. There are simply some things that don't add up if we're to believe Patterson's ending. Some reviewers have already alluded to these problems, so I feel no need to reiterate, but like someone said, the plot holes are big enough to drive a tractor trailer through. And all because Patterson needed to get one last gasp out of the reader.

Summary: THE WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB is not to be UNDERESTIMATED.........
Review: The introduction of the Women's Murder Club is a masterpiece. This makes the girls night out very intriguing. These four ladies have style, class, and a special desire to attack any dangerous situation that comes their way. The four special minds and authority to get pass a lot of important people is just great.

I look forward to reading 2nd Chance.

This series is well introduced and has the flair to keep you guessing. I also like the Alex Cross series.

James Patterson has a great series when it comes to serial killers.
