Rating: Summary: Top notch thriller! Review: This was the first James Patterson book I've read & I was very impressed. Fast-paced, good plotting, & excellent dialogue. I could not put it down! I'm looking forward to the next book about these four women, the members of the Women's Murder Club.
Rating: Summary: The Best Since Kiss the Girls Review: This book makes up for Patterson's poor story line for Alex Cross in Roses are Red. I loved this book and can't wait for another Lindsey Boxer novel to hit the shelves. This is the best book he's written since Kiss the Girls.
Rating: Summary: breath of fresh air Review: Thank you James for getting of that Alex Cross thing, I was getting a little bored with him as a character. With that said, I could not put this book down. It was a page turner and kept my interest to the very last page. I hope that in each book he focuses on each of the four women's lives. I also loved that the chapters were short it made it easy to put it down when I had to. The novel is about four women who come together from different professions to catch a killer who is murdering couples on their wedding night. Each have their own expertise to bring in on the case, the cop, the lawyer, the medical examiner and the newpaper reporter. Just when they think they have their killer the plot twists and the clues point to someone else. As much as I like the alex cross series, I was so ready for a different venue.
Rating: Summary: Great reading Review: I am a new reader of James Patterson. 1ST To Die was very hard to put down and exciting to the end. I love the small chapters and his way of keeping you interested in the characters. Since reading this book I have been buying all of James Pattersons books. I love the Alex Cross series and will be looking forward to a new Alex Cross book. I also really enjoyed the women in 1St To Die and will look forward to another book with those characters. Even tough the villians scare me to death, I love an author who has a good imagination and keeps you guessing until the end.
Rating: Summary: A good read for a forgiving reader Review: If you liked James Patterson's previous *non* Alex Cross novels, you will probably enjoy "1st To Die" as well. I enjoyed reading it, although there were several occasions where I needed to forgive some less-than-stellar writing to continue on to the good stuff. If you are easily annoyed by a paragraph or two that pull you out of the story and remind you that you're reading a book that isn't perfect, then I'd advise against this novel. My concerns center around Patterson's inability to write a woman in certain situations. This is obviously important in "1st To Die", since the protagonist is a woman. In typical Patterson style, the fast paced and suspensful portions of the novel are top notch. However, both in the love scenes and particularly when Lindsay is first person narrarating her time spent home alone, it seems like Patterson is trying way too hard, and it comes across as cliche'd. While I don't doubt that a female homocide detective might occasionally go home, put on some Sarah McLachlan, change into comfy clothes, prepare herself a nice meal while enjoying a glass of Chardonnay, and then snuggle on the couch with her big furry dog, it reads like Patterson is just desperately trying to convince you that the narrarator is a woman. As I said, I enjoyed the book. Like most Patterson novels, it's a very quick read, in part because the suspense gets you reading faster, and in part because -- well -- Patterson doesn't exactly use a lot of "big words". Which is fine if you're looking for a quick book to read on a plane. Worth a read if you're a bit forgiving, but perhaps worth waiting for the paperback price.
Rating: Summary: Happy Ending Review: Really enjoyed this book. Fun, fast-paced, easy read with a mouth-dropping ending. I thought I knew what was up early, but it got me!
Rating: Summary: Patterson never fails to please!! Review: I was really happy with this book...true Patterson at his best!! Just when you thought the book was over EVERYTHING turns around & comes right back at ya!! Once I was at the last 50 or so pages I just kept going..I had to see how it ended! Not at all formulaic & schmaltzy...very original concept. Patterson's method of character development & plot advancement really soars in this page turner!! Absolute beach-reading for any true Patterson fan! Keep 'em coming,James!!
Rating: Summary: 1st to Die Review: Amazing book. I couldn't put it down. Patterson has outdone himself-you realize that you read half the book, and then you're upset because it's almost over! The setting of San Francisco is awesome, as is the idea of female homicide detectives cracking the case. This book will definitely keep you guessing. Patterson at his best.
Rating: Summary: A fast read Review: This got my attention from the first page, however, there were several flaws! For instance, no one has a "cabin" in Modesto, California. The San Francisco ME would NOT have the samples from the inverstigation in Ohio. I found it annoying that every other page is a new chapter. Why does the writer do that?? It was very distracting. Despite all of this, it was enthralling for me. The language is simple and straightforward. It's a bit like junk TV... no moral, no bigger message, just entertainment. Don't expect great literature, and you'll enjoy!
Rating: Summary: This is going to be a GREAT series! Review: To me this series is going to be even better than the Alex Cross ones! After I started to read this, i couldn't put it down until i finished! You HAVE TO read this wonderful book, and hopefully he comes out with the sequal fast!!!
