Summary: Mystery Reader
Review: Wow! An unbelieveable book! James Patterson novels keep you on the edge of your seat and at the end - wanting more! I can't wait for his next book.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Entertaining as usual but nothing special
Review: Patterson turns out another exciting and interesting story in this very consistent effort. But being constistent is both good and bad. 1st to Die is suspenseful and exciting like many previous novels, but it breaks no new ground and is thus very predectible. A killer is on the loose killing newly married couples. The first half of the book centers around Police inspector Lindsey Boxer leading the investigation and trying to find the killer. She brings a reporter, a choroner and a lawyer into the group and together they try and solve the crime on their own. By this time, you have grown to hate the killer and hope he gets caught. The blurb on the book jacket says that the book has a startling conclusion that will totally change the reality of everything that preceded it. I'm not one that tries to figure out endings to books, but when they found their first supsect, I knew it wouldn't be that easy. I knew to expect one final twist at the end, and there was one, but it wasn't that startling. While Patterson can write good stories, I don't think he has surpise endings down very well. A good surprise ending will be totally unpredictible while at the same time make sense. In this book, the ending is predictible. In another where he tried a surprise ending, Roses are Red, it didn't make sense. This book also has the typical romance, which means you can basically skip those short chapters. One more minor complaint. Patterson seems to enjoy writing from a woman's point of view. Even Alex Cross seems to have a lot of feminine characteristics. All of his main characters seem to enjoy fine art, fine wine, literature (not fiction). Not a big deal, but it just makes all of his books seem that much more the same when from book to book the main characters all have the same interests. This is a good, entertaining book, just nothing ground breaking. I recommend it, but don't get your hopes up about the ending.

Summary: Awwwful
Review: I heard the audio version. It was a female reader and all the female characters sounded fine. Her male voice inpersonations were horrible, the sound a throat makes after 30 years of emphysema.

The book didn't fare much better. It really pulled me in for the first half - a very interesting killer. But, it quickly went downhill with a distracting blood disease plotline and a terrible ending. It read more like something for a bad hollywood flick and should have never made it to print. Stay away.

Summary: 1st to Die --- A great novel
Review: 1st to die is a great novel that keep me at the edge of my seat. It was very easy reading with a great deal of suspense. I enjoyed every chapter and felt like I knew the characters. I hope this becomes a series. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Summary: About as shallow as they get
Review: When the typeface is about 13 points high and the chapters all of 3 pages long, on average, one should expect a fairly fluffy tome. And, not surprisingly, that's what one gets: superficiality cubed. I love to linger lovingly over my books, caressing every word. This, however, was a 3-hour wham, bam, no-thank-you-ma'am glide through. Hey, bring it with you to the smallest room in your house--and make *good* use of it, page-by-page!

Summary: excellent
Review: I finished this in two days because excellent! In this tale, he weaves together four women to form the Women Murder Club. They try to solve a case in which a killer is on the loose--killing newlyweds! As the the page turn, so does the twists and turns. It was baffling and very detailed--graphic, but nice kills--but it is worth it. James Patterson is the master of suspense writing--even if it means crossing. This is his best along with ROSES ARE RED and CAT AND MOUSE. Cannot wait for VIOLETS ARE BLUE, 2ND CHANCE, and his upcoming romance SUZANNE'S DIARY FOR NICHOLAS.

Summary: Completely implausible & not worth the money
Review: I'm one of those readers who feel if you can't say something decent, don't say anything at all, but this book changed my mind. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to pay for a book, I want to get something in return. This story is so far-fetched, it's laughable. As if four women professionals would ever act this way . . . it's an insult to every intelligent woman who holds down a responsible job. And I don't want to hear about Charlie's Angels. With Charlie's Angels, we know we're reading about/watching fantasy. In this book, Patterson is trying to pass off his characters and their behavior as reality. The man has lost whatever touch he had with KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER. His writing skill is minimal, at best, so at the very least we need a plot that isn't full of so many holes it looks like a sieve. Didn't happen in this book. My advice is, don't waste your money.

Summary: Solid Thriller
Review: A serial killer who preys on newlyweds is the target of homicide inspector, Lindsay Boxer--who teams with three resourceful women friends--a medical examiner, an assistant DA and the reporter covering the murder spree--for help in piecing the odious puzzle together. Fast paced and laced with tension.

Summary: I'm the first to die on this one
Review: It is a decent book at best, but after forcing myself to read two of his other mediocre efforts I had to give up on this one. Once again Patterson needs to do a better job of editing his books. I am tired of sloppy stories that are full of plot holes and nonsense. He has definitely lost the great touch he had with Kiss the Girls.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A disappointment for Alex Cross fans
Review: Not a horrible book, but I kept hoping Alex would pop up in San Francisco and show these girls how to solve a murder! Patterson throws in his typical surprise ending.
