Summary: Why take weight loss advice from a fat man?
Review: This is just a fad. You don't need a book to lose weight. And I really can't understand why this is so popular--you'd think if it actually worked the author wouldn't be obese.

I'm 22, and believe me, I've wasted plenty of money on this kind of garbage. I've lost 50 lbs, and kept it off for years. And these types of books didn't help at all. What DID help was developing better eating habits and moving more. Don't get me wrong; I eat junk food sometimes, and I don't even work out every day. I just try to do everything in moderation. Here are a couple tips that will actually help you, instead of just trying to make a profit.

1) Don't use elevators, or find the nearest parking space. Those little bits of extra walking add up.

2) If you want a dinner you know you shouldnt be eating, like pasta, remember everything in moderation. Fill up on a big salad, then have a small serving of pasta.

This is comming from a girl who'd 5'9, 130lbs, and used to be 180lbs. Not some fat old man.

Summary: Leeching dollars from the Oprah hippos
Review: This is a great book for those who like to eat pig slops as a snack or suck on sticks of butter for energy. I heartily recommend this for people who like to hear diet advice only from overweight elephant seals. Members of the Oprah generation will appreciate the word snacks that are fed to them by talk show hosts who are indistinguishable from purebred Pamplona cows.

Review: He trying to make fat people fell bad enough about themselves to diet. What is wrong with being blessed with a few EXTRA POUNDS??? I don't want to end up skinny enough to be able to hula-hoop with a cherrio, make it from 1 gate to another at the Seattle-Tacoma airport in less than 5 minutes, and to the point that my stomach size ends up smaller than the center hole of a Krispy Kreme doughnut. My sister is skinny and she has a problem buying clothes. The size 0 is too big. WHAT ... IS WRONG WITH BEING FAT??? I don't want to be able to use dental floss as toilet paper.

Summary: The Ultimate Weight Solution
Review: I found this book to be the very best advice I have ever found on weight loss in my 22 years of (diteting). After reading this book and the food guide that goes with it I will never have to diet again. It is the most common sense way of eating I have experienced, and find it very easy to follow. Yes I have to put in the effort but that goes with any thing worth while. And I am worth while!

Summary: Gets to the heart of the problem
Review: If you are an emotional eater like me, no diet in the world will work until you deal with your real issues, the stuff that makes you eat to numb the pain. Dr. Phil understands this and explains how to deal with the root causes of your weight problem in this great book.

Summary: Solid Effort and a Sensible Approach
Review: Surprisingly good and balanced approach to weight control. There had to be a reason that it sold so well.

Dr. Phil McGraw presents a balanced approach to mental attitude, exercise, and diet. I like his other book "Food Guide" that contains detailed facts and figures on calorie intakes of various foods and can be an excellent diet guide. Read the present book first and then consider buying the second on the guide.

Solid job on an important topic of balanced eating and control over one's own body's health.

Recommended. 4 stars buy.

Summary: Good BUT -- Unique Because of the Psychology, yet ...
Review: The thing that makes this book different is that Dr. Phil lends psychological wisdom to the task of losing wieght. The dietary guidelines he offers, to me, are not as important as the various "keys" (other reviewers mention them). Used properly, these keys can make the difference. However, where the book lacks is in helping you to use the keys without struggle. That is, how can you feel good about where you are and where you are going, while using the keys. I recommend Dr. Phil's book for his good keys, and I recommend that you scan other diet books also to get other food choice ideas (South Beach, Atkins, Zone...). BUT, THE BIG HELPFULE SUGGESTION IS that you get a copy of an amazingly powerful book to help you feel good about whatever you are doing, to help you feel great regardless of where you are on your weight loss journey. The book is "Effortless Wellbeing: The Missing Ingrediets for authentic Wellness" by Evan Finer. With this additional book, you've got the material to make dieting really work while you feel great, for once.

Summary: Lost weight; increased energy and well being
Review: I lost 20 lbs. and 4 inches around the waist in one month. Even better, my mental clarity was greatly sharpened, and I feel younger and more energetic than ever.Dr. Phil has a great program here. I also recommend The Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I have tried many "diet" plans before reading Dr. Phil's book. True, the food choices that he recommends are nothing suprising or new: just good nutrition. However, reading this book helped me to understand why I kept going on diet after diet, losing weight, and then regaining it again. I have now identified many of the mental blocks that I had to maintaining a good way of eating. For example: I used food as a reward and a punishment. After work if I was hungry and didn't want to wait to eat until I got home I would mentally tell myself that it had been a crappy day and I deserved a big mac. If it had been a really good day at work and I was pleased with something I had done I would mentally tell myself that I was really good and deserved a big mac. No wonder I weighed 191 pounds! Dr. Phil's book has opened my eyes and I will never look at food the same way again!

Summary: look at the picture on the cover
Review: How can anyone who is fat and obviously unable to control their own weight purport to be an expert. If this worked any better than any other diet wouldn't this guy at least look reasonably thin?
He is not a medical doctor and is cashing in big time from his Oprah fame - she has created a monster. With all Oprah's public weight struggles do you see Oprah endorsing this POS? NO
