Rating: Summary: The Ultimate Weight Solution: The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Free Review: First the "7 Keys" are nothing new. Dr. Phil is just talking about information that has been known for a long time and passing it off as his own. His claim that he "doesn't think he has the answer, he knows he has the answer" just shows how egotistical he is. If he does have any good information, his arogant style is hard to take. It's hard to hear someone when they are talking down to you. Being "honest" doesn't mean brow beating. It would be a lot easier to take if he really talked honestly, using facts and information instead of demeaning people.
Rating: Summary: The Hard Truth Review: This book is the hard truth. I bought it the day it came out and I have been putting the advise to work. There is a lot of material that has been covered in other "diet" books but what people need to realize is that this not a diet book. It is not a quick fix but it does give you good tips on how to fix your life so that maybe you can finally lose weight. I had lost 20 pounds before this book and now that I have it I have finally gotten off a plateau I had been sitting on and I am down another pound. It is hard to admit that my weight is the cause of mainly myself and I think that is why a lot of people are not rating this book highly. Read this book if you really want to change your addictive behavoirs with food. But if you don't want to actually change your life then the other reviews are right. You should just go buy another diet book. Good luck to all who really READ this book and try to CHANGE.
Rating: Summary: Same old, same old. . . Review: I was so disappointed when I read Dr. Phil's book. Were he a diet book reader, he would have known that everything in his book has been already covered many times in other diet books. His entire message boils down to eat healthfully, exercise, get rid of tempting food, get support, think positively, become aware of emotional eating, and establish good habits. Duh!
Rating: Summary: DON'T RUN FROM THE TRUTH Review: First of all...I have been to Dr. Phil's show and I can tell you all..he is not fat..he is all muscle...and secondly...those of you who have rated the book less than 5 stars are running from the truth. He has said numerous times, he is not telling you anything new, just telling it in a way we all need to hear it. I have battled my weight all my adult life and for the first time, I feel like I have an opportunity to have a healthy body and a healthy mind!! I will never look at food the same way. Thank you Dr. Phil!!!
Rating: Summary: more of the same old same old Review: Sheeeeesh. I think a Weight Watcher's meeting is more helpful than this book. There is nothing new here. Better money is spent taking a cooking class.
Rating: Summary: Common Sense for Everybody Review: Interesting reading the comments written so far. I have started reading the book, and the skeptic that I am (tried dieting for more than 15 years with no permanent success), found halfway through Chapter 2 the core reason why I've been unsuccessful to date. (I'm halfway through the book as of Saturday September 13) It was an event/issue that I'd discussed with my parents and close friends, but never made the connection to my emotional reasons for overeating and consuming poor quality choices. I'm an educated woman -- graduate degrees and all. Others out there would say "see, it didn't tell you anything you didn't already know." True, but when one has a seemingly complex and unsolvable problem, simple truths can set you free. All my schooling did NOT prepare me for the events that triggered a 25-year weight gain odyssey. Today I really dug into my issue and have come away realizing I do have the power and the ability to drop the weight and get my disease state back into healthy state. To those of you who say that other "diet plans" helped you get to where you are -- FANTASTIC! I don't need another diet plan -- I have tried so many it is pathetic. I needed to see/hear/read some key information that helped me throw away my comfort food, and deal with what's real. Good luck to everybody, and to Dr. Phil. He may not have the precise answer to the predicament of all overweight Americans, but neither does Jim Karas, Robert Atkins, Bob Greene, Covert Bailey, nor all the others on the bookshelves. Seek and ye shall find, I say.
Rating: Summary: Not Only A Diet Change, But A Way Of Life Change! Review: I did not read this book yet, but I did watch the TV promos and completely understood Dr. Phil's Rationale! It's not always about the food, it's why we do things, or why we do not do things. It's whether we use food for fuel to feed our bodies, or for comfort to sooth our hurts! If you are looking for a miracle cure, or a free ride, you won't find it here. Changing the way we do things is hard work. A good idea is to make it fun and satisfying while we are doing it! I am presently working through Anthony Robbins motivational programs and lots of what is said *you would think* would be considered common sense! IF SO... WHY did I NOT see it that way before! WHY did I NOT take action before? WHY... WHY... WHY! Sometimes: 1) We need to hear it from someone we trust and respect! 2) We need it hear it from someone who cares! 3) We need to hear it from someone who has been there before us! 4) We need to hear it from someone who takes the time to want to help support us every step of the way, and NOT tell us what to do, but *shows us* HOW to do it! 5) We need to hear it from a complete stranger! 6) We need to hear it *just one more time* to push us over the edge to make the difference and propel us into action! Do you really think Dr. Phil did this for the money! How ridiculous! I find it most interesting that all those who gave negative reviews were negative in providing their names as well. It's easy to be anonymous, but not so easy to stand up and be accountable! If a person reads just one thing in the book that pushes them into action... to *make a change in their lives* THEN the book is/was priceless to them! Who has the right to be judge and jury as to whether the book works or not -- especially without trying it! Why not take the time to just watch and see. IF it works we will know, IF it does not work we will know! This book and Dr. Phil's program has given many cause for hope to turn their lives around. Who's right is it to take that hope away! Dr. Phil is NOT giving you another diet to try, he IS giving you a NEW WAY OF LIFE to try! Take it or leave it! It's YOUR life! It's YOUR choice! Roz Fruchtman ...
Rating: Summary: Dr. Phil needs to follow his own advice. Review: I finished Dr. Phil's book the other day. First of all, why is he giving weight loss advice when he is overweight. I know he is tall, but doesn't he weigh like 240-250 pounds. Second, there is no action plan in this book. You just have to keep filling in these sentences which, quite frankly, look a lot like those in a book called Flip the Switch. On March 2nd of this year, I bought Flip The Switch by Jim Karas. I saw him on Good Morning America as he helped Diane Sawyer lose over 25 pounds. It is the BEST weight loss book I have every read. Many times, I felt he was talking right to me. It is so simple and so smart. Well, as of today, I am down over 38 pounds. I eat according to his food plan, which by the way, does not eliminate a single food group. I exercise 3 times a week for about 30 minutes and my body has totally changed. This plan works and I have my sister and best friend following the program and they, too, have lost 24 and 28 pounds respectively. Please, please, if you are reading this post, order Flip The Switch and leave Dr. Phil to areas that he has more expertise and more personal success.
Rating: Summary: Old News Review: There is nothing new here that has not been in every diet book since the begining of time. It just has general advice, but what I find so troubling there is no formula to follow like South Beach. This is DR ( and I use doctor loosely because he is not an MD) Phil telling people they need to lose weight. Well, gee anybody can do that.
Rating: Summary: A grab for the gold Review: I've been a fan of dr phil's show and previous books, but it's obvious what happened here:he (or maybe his business manager) noticed how many diet books are best-sellers, so he figured he'd cash in too. My wife bought this the day it came out, and even she agrees--there's nothing new or even particularly useful, just the same old tough-love dr phil machine now turning its attention to obesity. And as several others have pointed out, dr phil lecturing you on why you're fat is the pot calling the kettle black. couldn't he at least have lost 10 pounds before this book came out? earlier this summer we bought The South Beach Diet, which has some real nutritional information and a practical diet plan going for it, more than I can say for this cynical attempt by the good doctor. (And we lost weight, too!)
