Summary: the best defense of christianity that i have read
Review: CS Lewis makes the case for Christianity in this brilliant work. For those looking for an intellectual approach to the faith look no further. Lewis, a former atheist and Oxford man of letters, is a joy to read. Thank God for him.

Summary: This is the book that changed my life
Review: I was raised in a Christian family and attended Sunday School faithfully all through my childhood; but until I read Mere Christianity, I never really understood my relationship with God -- and His with me. Back in college, in '73, I borrowed some books from a friend and she slipped it in, saying, "You might enjoy this, too." Well, by the time I finished it, Christ -- the living Lord -- became so real to me, I asked Him to forgive me and lead me. Now, 25 years later, I still reread this book several times each year! Sometimes the Bible is hard for newcomers to get into so, I take a paperback copy of it with me on airline flights, and leave one in the seatback pocket, inscribed, "A friend left me here for you!" That's because it meant so much to me, and I believe it is the best explanation of Christianity ever written. You might want to invest in spreading the Word this way, too!

Summary: Merely Life Changing
Review: There is nothing "Mere" about this book; it will merely change your life. Lewis lays out in plain english a logical argument for the existence of God and the definitive apologetic for christianity since St. Thomas Aquinis. His use of metaphore makes difficult abstract concepts understandable. Christianity claims to change lives and Mere Christianity lives up to its name. A must read for anyone seriously seeking the truth.

Summary: The Best. Period.
Review: I don't know how to add to what others have said, but I feel I must say here that 'Mere Christianity' is my favorite book ever. I've read it through twice and re-read it by parts at least ten times. Lewis could be very intellectual but MC is disarmingly simple and straightforward yet infinitely sagacious and deep. If you think all Christians are mindless lemmings, you must read this. You won't be able to think it anymore.

Summary: A badly needed approach........
Review: Compelling to say the least, Lewis brings Christian apologetics to an everyman level. Without sophisticated or complex methods, a quick and solid foundation for faith is laid out. The popularity of this work speaks for itself (just look at the other reviews!). Hopefully, such a down-to-earth approach will soon be adopted by theologian authors of our time.

Summary: Pass this along to those who say they do not belive in God!
Review: Mere Christianity is a succinct, articulate and compelling explanation of Christianity. Lewis has made the work easy to read and understand without resorting to over simplification. Ask your friends, children or relatives who say they do not believe in God to read this convincing work before stating their beliefs with any fervor. Trust me, you will be doing them a great favor!

Summary: Intellectual but never Haughty
Review: A literate, well thought-out argument for the existence of God and the validity of Christianity. Yet the author is never condescending toward his reader. Don't be fooled by the small size of this book. There are a lot of ideas here. Is there a flaw in Mr. Lewis' logic? I couldn't find it.

Summary: A Good Start for People who want to learn Christian logic.
Review: Although not the strongest logical argument for the existence and character of God (that would be Lewis' own _Miracles: A Preliminary Study_, 1960s version), _Mere Christianity_ (MC) does introduce the critical thinker to key elements of a logical foundation for Christian beliefs. Presented in four books (the first two of which act as progressive argument based on ethical perceptions), MC can be easily devoured a chapter at a time by people who are leery of diving into the "deep end". This is most certainly NOT an attempt to devalue or "explain away" the supernatural elements of Christianity; but instead strongly ratifies the core beliefs shared by most denominations. It is an invaluable tool for any Christian who seeks to strengthen the grounds of their faith; and, in my opinion, an excellent place for sceptics of the Christian faith to begin if they are curious about some of the logical arguments behind Christianity (although M:aPS produces an even stronger argument.) Any reader of this book owes it to himself to check out Lewis' _Miracles_ and also _The Problem of Pain_.

Summary: This is one of the five I'd take to a desert island!
Review: I read this in college after reading Charles Colson's book "Born Again." You remember Colson, don't you? He was Richard Nixon's hatchet man. "Mere Christianity" is the book that led him to Christ. He became a Christian and shortly thereafter, went to prison for his role in the Watergate scandal. (No, God doesn't always rescue us from the consequences of our mistakes. Sorry!) Since that time he's been the founder/leader for Prison Fellowship--talk about making lemonade from lemons!, and one of the fieriest Christian leaders of our time. I'd also read somewhere else that Dr. Lewis was an atheist at one time, and wanted to hear about the religion I grew up in from the perspective of a critical thinker who'd chosen it after intellectual consideration and not just because he knew nothing different. I was not disappointed. And eventually, I chose Christianity after weighing all the evidence for myself. This is not easy or light reading. You will read a page or two, and have to think about it and chew on it awhile. But what insights. Twenty years after the first time I read this, I am newly convicted and challenged every time I pick up this book and re-read a passage from it. Like Oswald Chambers' My Utmost for His Highest, this is communication that will stand the test of time. If I had only five books to take to a desert island, this would be the second one I'd pack after my NIV Bible. Christians and sincere seekers, check in here. You're in for the ride of your life!

Summary: An excellent book.
Review: With the right attitude this book can change your life. C.S. Lewis breaks through the falsehoods and gets to the essence of what it means to become a Christian
