Summary: G. R. R. Martin's novel is the best fantasy this year.
Review: George R. R. Martin is a new author for me, this being his first novel I have read. The depth and variety of his characters brings memories of Tad Williams' "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn" trilogy and Katherine Kurtz' "Deryni Chronicles." The storyline is full of twists and turns and makes for an incredibly believable setting. The political, personal and racial involvement and conflict keeps you intrigued as to where things will go next. This is a novel which should not be passed by

Summary: Knots Landing, The Tudors & The Ruby Throne= A Game Throne
Review: A Game of Thrones has the appeal of a steamy episode of Knots Landing, the court intrigue of the English Tudors and the breadth and majesty of the Ruby Throne. This, the first volume of a new set of works by George R.R. Martin grsbs you from the prolgue to the last page. You find twists and turns in each chapter. Who are the good guys? Are they really? Who is the hero or heroine? Are they really? Does magic exist or only cold steel? Do direwolves know more than we think? Are they more than we think? Martin has created a world that is the grown up fantasy we have been looking for, with no easy answers and many tough solutions. A Game of Thrones makes you think, question and mutter to yourself. It frustrates you, then makes you cheer. You won't want to put it down until the next chapter makes you throw it across the room! Take this book to the beach and you'll get sunburned!

Summary: Wow!
Review: Unbelieveably GREAT! On a par with Robert Jordan. Fresh and interesting characters. Truly evil to the most noble and good. I think the most interesting thing about the characters is that they are so REAL! Even the most noble is flawed in some way. Highly Recommended!!

Summary: A one nighter. . . .
Review: This novel is one of the best pieces of written art that has been published. You will get involved in the story. You will hate, love, fear, weep and war with them; so vivid are they. A Game of Thrones is at the top of my I-Will-Reread list. The competition for best novel of the year has just stepped up in pace as Martin unleashes his prowess with pen and mind with this novel. Maybe we shall see a beging of a game of novels. . . Whichever the outcome, many will await his next in the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Summary: At last!
Review: George R. R. Martin has succeeded where few authors have. This isn't a quest for a sword or a singing harp. We've all read about a bazillion of those. This book will surprise you. I don't want to give anything away. If you love epic fantasy or want to dive in to a new genre, read A Game of Thrones

Summary: The best fantasy novel of the year, hands down.
Review: Since "Sandkings," I've felt that George R.R. Martin is one of the most under-appreciated authors in print today, and this book proves it. _Game_ provides a refreshing twist on the fantasy genre -- most welcome in light of how badly the Wheel of Time is starting to suck (and with Dark Tower IV still a month away . . . ). This series is similarly epic in nature, with far more believable, down-to-earth characters, written by a master storyteller who I would easily place in the same class as Stephen King or Harlan Ellison. Buy this book! Help George get the recognition he deserves! Whip the publisher to release the sequel! Am I making my point

Summary: New Tolkien Hah! New Einstein more like.
Review: Magnificent, sheer pleasure and joy were what was felt throughout my body when I layed down the final page. Terror and anguish were soon to follow at the months of torturous waiting for the sequel to arrive ... soon ... soon my children, be patient for a little while longer. People are continuosly comparing fantasy authors with the great Tolkien, I not only believe we have an heir but a beginning of a new dynasty under the glorious rule of king MartinI long live the king...LONG LIVE THE KING.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: I knew that Martin wrote and/or edited the Wildcard series , which sort of made me leary as to whether I wanted to read this book. But when the book arrived and I started it, I was amazed, thrilled and excited for the sequel, (A Clash of Kings) due in the spring of 98. This is one of the best introductory volumes that I have read in a long long time

Summary: Read this book.
Review: If you have not read this book, read this book! It is as simple as that. With some books you can get a feeling of where the book is going, what will happen, who will die, so on. With a Game of Thrones, this does not happen. From the first page, you are thrown into a maelstrom of events and people, all going in different directions. Threads of people and events weave around other threads, and you never know when or if they will end. Martin never takes the easy way out, never taking the road most traveled. This book is truly a unique experience and a read worthy of any lover of fantasy who has found things lacking in other books. There is nothing lacking in this book. Wait, yes there is. The sequel is not out yet

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Incredible 1st book in new series
Review: Make room on the shelf beside Robert Jordan! For an incredible read check this out! If fantasy is your thing this book is a must. But it transcends the genre like any true great novel does. As complex as Jordan, Rawn, And Wurts, Martin delivers the goods
