Rating: Summary: A Cool Drink of Water Review: Father Tim lives his life the way I want to live mine. He's very real, gets frustrated just like I do, but he always remembers the remedy for his troubles. The TRUTH is clearly presented but not in an offensive or "preachy" way. His friends and neighbors are people I "know" and his relationships with them are honest. Kudos to Jan Karon who has given my reading thirst a cool drink of water in the midst of books that leave me dried out and empty.
Rating: Summary: Like fine chocolate Review: Reading The Mitford Years is like opening a box of fine chocolates. Every word is to be savored and the delicious taste lingers long after the book is finished. Thank you, Ms. Karon!
Rating: Summary: my review Review: After I started reading the first chapter of the first book in this series, I knew I was hooked. I could not put it down. You are immersed into the life of this little town, Mitford, and you follow the joys and anxieties of Father Tim while he is trying to tend to his parish!I have been looking in the bookstore for a whole year just waiting for volume 5 to come out! I have even though of starting to read the series again.....
Rating: Summary: What a way to end a day! Review: This was one of the most delightful series of books I have ever read. It was very difficult to put the book(s) down. I began passing them from family to friends, and everyone waits for the next book encourging the person who has it to "read just a little faster". These books make you feel like you are part of Mitford. Living in a small town I can relate to Father Tim knowing and caring about everyone.
Rating: Summary: The kind of book I would pass on to my children Review: The first thing that came to mind after I finished reading this book is that I wish it were a television series. If t.v. was of the same high quality, good-hearted, old-fashioned, moral standards as this book then I wouldn't be afraid for my neice and nephew to watch it. These books are wholesome and that is a quality that is shunned in today's society. While I know that books as literature can be expressed in anyway, I really enjoyed the folks of Mitford and their honest lives, it was so refreshing. I have only read the first installment but I assure you the other 4 will be read quickly. I wish I had a Father Tim in my life.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the next ones! Review: My husband I and I both read these wonderful books. We laughed and cried and wanted more with each one. Small town life, Barnabus the dog, and Dooley their adopted boy take you away to a place where you know the story is going to have a great ending! Our hats are off to you Ms. Karon, keep typing!
Rating: Summary: Peaceful Reading Review: Jan Karon writes of people and places I want to know. The ONLY problem is that she has not writen a new one. There is more to know about Father Tim's life with family & friends so I will continue to wait for more.
Rating: Summary: Never wanted the story to end Review: After reading each book, I could not get to the bookstore fast enough to get the next one. I felt very sad when the "Last Song" was done. I anxiously await her next book. Every character is delightful. I especially love Barnabus the "scripture" fearing dog.
Rating: Summary: At Home In Mitford Review: The novel is a perfect depiction of small town life. Wholesome, entertaining and uplifting reading. There is no need to censor for young teenage or pre-teen readers. Mrs. Stan Covalt
Rating: Summary: The Mitford Years Review: I live in the Bronx, I travel the subway to work in Manhattan every day. In short, I'm in the rat race. But whenever one of Ms. Karon's books are in my hands, I am transported to a kinder, gentler world where Father Tim and Cynthia are my friendly next door neighbors and all is right with the world. I would recommend this book and all the Mitford books to everyone. I wish she would write at a faster pace!
