Summary: Wonderful, heartwarming series
Review: I have zoomed through these 4 Mitford books and am now midway through the 5th. The characters grab you and transport you to a town where I think, deep down, we would all like to call home. Father Tim is a "real" person with very human characteristics. Yet his basic goodness will restore your faith in humanity. The theology is not shoved down your throat, but rather is grasped between the lines. All the characters are memorable. Cynthia and Dooley in particular help shape the wonderful story line. The huge dog, Barnabus, who is disciplined only by hearing Bible verse, worms his way into your heart. I am so glad I discovered this series, and I recommend it to absolutely anyone!

Summary: Good, clean books
Review: I have read the four books in this set and the new one, A New Song. These books are so honest and refreshing. They are good, clean books with no dirty four letter words or lewd sex scenes that unfortunately permeate so many "bestsellers" today. They are excellent books for all ages. I have recommended them to a lot of people and everyone loves them. The characters are so fun and interesting. They are so human with their funny quirks and cute personalities. We can all relate to them. I hope Ms. Karon continues writing for years to come!

Summary: How to give love, again and again
Review: One of my customers came into my quilt shop about a month ago commenting heartily about this book that she was engrossed in and shared enough of it to let me know that it might be something that my 86 year old mother might enjoy. When I searched for "At Home in Mitford", I found that there was a set of four, so I ordered it and sent it on to my mom. It has brought more joy and laughs to her than anything I have seen in more years than I can remember. She commented that she didn't want the books to finish for there would be nothing for her to look forward to. Someday I will inherit these and I'm sure that I will be as tickled with them as she is. I implore anyone wanting to get something for their mom (or grandmother)for this upcoming Mother's Day to buy at least one of these books. The love goes on.

Summary: The Mitford Series is Not to Be Missed!
Review: Jan Karon has developed a delightful cast of characters with this easy and fun to read set of paperbacks. I fell in love with all of her very believable characters. Ms Karon has a wonderful sense of dialogue, and advances her plots expertly. Conflicts and crises are believable. Her spiritual messages are not too "cloyingly" sentimental, but impart just the right amount of comfort. She always has several plots going on at the same time and intertwines each beautifully. I hope she continues these stories in future volumes. They make an excellent gift for your family and friends.

Summary: A Balm for the Soul
Review: For those times when "the world is too much with us", we have the Mitford series to ease the aches and give a fresh perspective. These books are so uplifting with a theology anchored in real life and real faith.

My 13 YO daughter & I have read them all. They were particularly relevant to her as she prepared for her confirmation in the Episcopal Church. Her take on the protagonist - "I wish I had a rector like Father Tim. I feel that I could tell all of my troubles to him."

We plan to visit Blowing Rock & environs on our next trip to NC to soak in the ambiance of Mitford.

Summary: A Refreshing Change
Review: I love the Mitford books. For a change, it is really nice topick up a book without any violence, language or sex. Just good, cleanfun. These books had me laughing out loud at times, crying atothers. I wish we could all live in a town like Mitford and have our own Father Tim. Summary: Yea...good clean reading...
Review: How refreshing to read not 1, but 4 books about life in small town America completely void of guns, blood and violence. Ms. Karon has found "the" way to relay these characters' lives without having them kill anyone, sleep around or do drugs. KUDOS! Many thanks...I can't wait to purchase book #5!

Summary: Starts out slow, but don't give up!
Review: I listened to the first audiobook, "At Home in Mitford" and just about stopped after the second tape because it moved along so slowly, but stuck with it and was certainly glad as I ended up loving the story and couldn't wait to get back to the library for part two. That turned out to be just as good and I would recommend the whole series for anyone who gets tired of depressing novels with bad language. Very uplifting and a nice change of pace. I listened to the unabridged versions and couldn't have picked a better narrator.
