Summary: A soothing balm for a troubled world
Review: I just finished reading the Mitford series. The books were given to me almost a year ago and sat on my shelf. Recently, I had a personal crisis and have spent much alone time which allowed me time to read the entire series in less than 6 weeks. These are not deep books but often the simple is what we really need. The series provided an escape which could be perceived as a shallow endeavor but reflecting on the deep sprirtual undertones, I found the books inspiring and healing for me during a trying time personally and in light of our national situation as well... I would recommend these books for anyone who is looking for something better.

Summary: What's The Big Attraction?
Review: I only read a couple of the books in this series and simply couldn't stomach anymore. I don't understand why these books have such a fanatical following. The plots are predictable and the characters are one-dimensional and plastic. It's easy to see that Jan Karon is just trying to make as much money as possible out of her popularity. ... I wanted to give these books no star but the computerized form wouldn't allow anything lower than one star...

Summary: All of the Mitford Series
Review: I have all of the Mitford Series books and "Esther's Gifts" and the "Mitford Snowmen". Her books are truly what I call "A feel good book". We've also started buying her children's books for our Grandchildren. Jan Karon's books always put you in a "feel good" frame of mind and leave you wanting more.

Summary: Another idea
Review: Jan Karon has written a highly entertaining series about life in a small town. May I suggest another series that is as good or better also set in a small town? I have fallen in love with the Coalwood series that Homer Hickam has written beginning with his exceptional Rocket Boys. I know, ladies, it sounds like something about science and rockets but it isn't. Rocket Boys, The Coalwood Way, Sky of Stone, and We Are Not Afraid are the best small town series I've ever read. As soon as I finish one of them, I have to pick it up and read it over. They are that good. They will remind you of the Mitford series but then you'll be hooked as I was on the Coalwood series. Try them, then you'll thank me.

Summary: At Home In Mitford
Review: I am an avid mystery fan, but somehow, a copy of "At Home In Mitford" miraculously appeared in my bookcase. I normally would look at this type of book and decide it wasn't for me, but something, perhaps the picture on the front cover, intrigued me and I started to read, fully expecting to be quickly bored. Instead, I found myself immersed in Mitford, its characters, and activities! I could hardly put it down! I love how Ms Karon weaves a magic spell of mystery and intrigue in every day activities...and especially how these are not far fetched and actually are believable! I love Father Tim. He is the epitomy of what all pastors should be and I can't wait to see if he and Cynthia marry! It's a great book and I'm sure the others in the series will be just as excellent!

Summary: Will Put A Smile In Your Heart
Review: Simply put, Jan Karon puts a smile in your heart. Her stories are warm and uplifting, and take you to a place where simple pleasures are enjoyed. Reminds me of writing by Kirk Martin in an incredible new book, Shade of the Maple. Very powerful ending that reinforces the honor of commitment and moves you to hopeful tears! Both authors seem to have an inspirational flair to their writing that is wholesome and uplifting. I always look forward to more from Jan Karon!

Summary: Time for a little nostalgia
Review: If you yearn for a simpler time, when a community was more centered around the life of the local church, you will probably really enjoy this series about small town life in Mitford. The first book is primarily designed to get you involved in the main characters, and as such I felt it started very slowly. But hang in there, a mystery develops, there is a wonderful inspirational salvation experience, oh and of course a love story begins to unfold later as well. Enjoy!

Summary: At Home In Mitford
Review: This is the best "feel good" book I have ever read. The author has a way of telling the story that makes you smile and feel happy while you are reading. I couldn't put the book down. I have read the whole series and highly recommend them.

Summary: Wonderful therapy!
Review: These were the first books that I was able to read after the death of my father. I feel as if I were guided to them somehow. They have a peaceful, healing quality.

Summary: Amazon Reviews open up new doors for readers.
Review: A few years ago I read a review written by a man who wished he had never read any of the Jan Karon books so he could have the pleasure of reading all four of them one after another. I was impressed with his comments, and bought the first one and immediately went right through the other three. The characters are so real, that I feel I could call them and offer my advice or I could just stop by for a cup of coffee. I hope Jan Karon continues to write about Mitford, perhaps she could contnue with some of the younger generation. I am looking forward to hearing about her next book. I hope someone reads this review that never heard of the Mitford series and experiences the same pleasure I did.
