Summary: A Great Book!
Review: This book is fiction; something he dreamed up about a man who dies, goes to Heaven, and has introductions to five people who were in his life. The first, the middle and the last he had never met. And then there are his wife and the captain of his army squad. Everyone thinks they choose the people that are in their lives; school friends, camp friends, team friends, spouse/partner, children, coworkers. But how much do you really control about who plays major roles in your life? Not one bit. Do you control who the kids are in your neighborhood while you grow up? or, the man who picks up your trash? What happened when a bottle you trashed out the car window hit the ground? Or did it go backwards and hit a car behind you? Every action has a reaction...of some sort. I don't want to give away what happens, the book is short as it is. You learn that Heaven is personal; a fairgrounds for some, a diner for others. In this book, each person Eddie the dead meets tells him what happened to them because of Eddie (or, to someone who affected Eddie's life, like his father). It is all an effort to help Eddie understand why his life was as it was. Why was his father so abusive? Why would he be dreaming of children? What ever happened to his captain, and what is the story behind his bum leg? The horrors of war, the job he hates.... This is a glorious but sad story. Eddie understands everything, but isn't off the hook for things that happened (albeit he is in Heaven). This book is simply beautiful! Don't Miss it. Another winner is the Amazon quick-pick: The Losers Club by Richard Perez

Summary: A book with good diction that is missing something...
Review: Entranced by "Tuesdays With Morrie", I bought this book the week it came out. I enjoyed it enough that I went through it really quickly, but I came out of it kind of unsatisfied, like having a meal without the main course- something was just missing. I went looking for the whatever it was, and found absolutely nothing when I reread the book.
Albom has some good descriptive language, and an original plot if you don't think about the cliched "This is your life"-type ideas. (Yes, that was sarcasm.) I really liked the book, and I think you will too, if you are considering buying it, but don't look to be totally fufilled at the end of this book. You'll find a small corner empty where there should be something.
Overall, this book got four stars from me on merit of language alone. While Albom does have a tendency to lapse into cliches, I enjoyed the descriptions greatly.
The verdict: buy this book, and read it when you've got time to contemplate things.

Summary: Very original idea for a book
Review: A friend gave me this book and told me to "read it & pass it on". It's not the type of book I normally read & I didn't think I'd like it but I did! This short book tells the story of Eddie, a maintenance worker who dies in a freak accident then meets 5 people in heaven who influenced his life. I couldn't wait to find out what happened when he meets his dead wife in heaven & I kept skipping ahead in the book to see when that part was coming up. The book goes back & forth with Eddie's stories of his life & what's happening to him after he dies. I liked how the books chapters all started with different birthdays he had. In the back of the book there's a picture of Eddie. Rest In Peace buddy.

Summary: The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Review: First introduced to Mitch Albom via "Tuesdays with Morrie," I couldn't wait for his next book. But having almost always been disappointed in an author's second novel, I approached this work with some trepidation.

What I found was an excellent read, as heart-warming and well-written as "Tuesdays," with some unique twists and a fresh look at things.

Part "Christmas Carol," part "It's a Wonderful Life," this truly remarkable little piece of inspirational literature is one of those books you'll want to buy multiple copies of for the purpose of giving them away as gifts. No book is perfect, but this one comes very close.

Summary: Mushy but OK
Review: My mom made me read this book as it is not something I would normally read. The book is about The Five People You Meet In Heaven. It was about a guy named Eddie who was an 84-year-old widower. He worked at an amusement park and made sure the rides were safe. There was a ride that was stuck, so one of the workers went to fix it. Something went wrong and there was a little girl standing on the tracks. Eddie pushed her off the tracks, but he was killed. He met five different people. People he killed, people who saved him from dieing, and other important people. They told him things that happened in their lives that was a part of Eddie's. They told him things so that Eddie could understand things that happened in his life. The book wasn't really about God, but more about things that happened in Eddie's life. I thought the book was OK, a little to mushy but I would recommend it to someone who likes to read.

Summary: albom gone bad
Review: "not my idea of heaven"

one review above really hit the point. i didnt like albom's representation of heaven..and the characterization, for that matter. the hero, eddie, isn't lovable. the novel was a little too preachy. in all fairness, albom really writes well but this particular piece of his gave me a headache...it was as if in this instance, he forced himself to write a bestseller..not a wise thing to do..
i managed to finish the book in a hospital waiting room,,because there was nothing else to do.

Summary: What a Great Book
Review: I could not put this book down. I had waited patiently to read it, but when I finally received it, it took me about two hours to read it.

Eddie is a somewhat bitter, tired man, who at the start of the book, doesn't realize he just has an hour left to live. The book takes you through the details of the last hour of his life, and then introduces you a new idea of Heaven. In the Heaven that Eddie goes to, he meets 5 people who either touched his life or he touched theirs. The characters are delightful, down to earth, and very believable.

This is a must read!

Summary: Not my idea of heaven
Review: I hated this book, as did everyone in my book club. Not uplifting at all or inspirational. The only reason I give it one star is that it is a very quick read. I was really hoping for more and was greatly disappointed.
