Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ Review: The Best book i have ever read if i could i would give it 100 stars and for the other people who dont like they just cant respect a good fantasy book
Rating: Summary: Overrated Review: Everyone I've ever heard from who has read Tolkein ether loves him or hates him, and having The Hobbit as assigned reading seems to greatly raise the likelyhood of hating it. It's just too much of a "My First Fantasy Novel" to really interest me, even when I first read it at age 10 or so. Of course, by then, I was already into Mercedes Lackey and other fantasy, so the almost-nonexistant character personalities and and uninteresting creatures (Orcs and one smelly dragon.Wow.) showed their true blandness in contrast. And where are the female characters? E-mail me if there are some and I've just forgotton, but from what I remember, there are no women at all that are more than just mentioned. Was Tolkien really that much of a chauvenist? If you thought that this book was okay, but not fantastic, and that some parts were a bit too boring, whatever you do, DO NOT READ THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING!!!! It's even more boring! Take my advice. I know Tolkein was the first, but did he have to make it so obvious?
Rating: Summary: the stupidest book i have ever read! Review: i thought this book was the dumbest book i have read in a long time. i hated it. i found it very hard to get into with all the characters listed in it. i would give it 0 stars if i could.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! Review: This is the best book I've ever read. 'Nuff said
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: The Hobbit and the accompanying Lord of the Rings saga is the best fantasy series ever, and the Hobbit is one of the most charming, and enjoyable books I have ever read. Granted, it is a children's book, but the kid in me loves it. Coupled with the epic sweep of the millenia of history that Tolkien created, the Lord of the Rings saga is more creative (it's the first of it's kind), and more pure epicness (?) than anything else...ever.
Rating: Summary: How great! Review: The hobbit has to be my all time favorite book. I've read it at least a million times. I've read a lot of the diffrent editions. This one is by far the best. The illistrations are wonderfull! It's the only time i've ever read a book with pictures that look like i imagin.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining "story" to prelude "epic trilogy" Review: Not as serious and intense as Lord Of The Rings, it's intended to be more of a semi-lighthearted children's tale - which is does brilliantly. Cheery at some points and very dark at others, by the time the end is reached (or so it seems...) the tale has come full-circle and given the reader a pleasant taste of a great story told by a master storyteller. Probably best geared for the 8 - 12 age group, but good for adults as well - and an almost necessary prerequisite to the Rings trilogy.
Rating: Summary: A never forgotten classic Review: "The Hobbit" is a well written book that inspires people to read. Once you pick it up you can't sent down. it's full of adventure and mystery, but at the same time its writing will make you want to cry! It a story of a Hobbit ( which you will find out what that is) and his friends, that go on a adventure. Weather they live or die is up to you to find out once you read this great book! Aaron H. Rating: Summary: What's the antonym for "page-turner?" Review: Okay, if you've never in your life read an epic fantasy then you might like it. But still, when I read this book I was at a point where I was reading four hundred-page novels per two to three days, but it took me hours to get through the first couple chapters. It doesn't really make sense how the dwarves would want such a bumbling fool to help them. And anyway, dwarves and Hobbits, etc., etc. aren't exactly my favorite fantasy races. Oh well.
Rating: Summary: it's good Review: wow, i really didnt understand what all the fuss was about until i read this book. the characters are so real and tangable, but they exist in this strange and mysterious world. it will probably be the best book i will ever read.
