Rating: Summary: Hobbit Review: I think this was a very good book. If you like a fantasy book with lots of action and a good cast of characters you should get this book. RJ
Rating: Summary: A classic to read over and over Review: I first had this story read to me by the school librarian when I was five (do librarians still read to classes, or is that too passe now?). It haunted me for years but I couldn't remember the title of the book. I finally found a copy by accident at another library and was hooked. I recommend reading this book to your children for bedtime (along with Wind in the Willows and Alice in Wonderland). Just don't lose your copy before they get to read it for themselves! Keep the magic alive.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding ! Review: Everyone who likes adventures must read this book. You just can't put it down. This book isn't just a thrilling book, but it also very allegoric.
Rating: Summary: The Hobbit Review: The Hobbit is agreat book about a small creature in middle Earth. The seeks not adventure howecer he is drages on one in which he must face the terrible Dragon of Smaug.
Rating: Summary: This one started it all Review: The Hobbit is an excellent fantasy adventure. It was easy to read and understand, and had lot's of humor in it. Though inferior to its sequel, The Lord of the Rings, the story of Bilbo Baggins quest provided the background that LOTR depended on. The Hobbit has a different feel from LOTR; it reads exactly like a fantasy, and that's what makes it a fun story. Wizards, dwarves, orcs, people, dragons, trolls, elves, and of course hobbits populate this book, so its in the right formula. Whenever I had to actually put the book down, I had thoughts of what would happen next to Bilbo and the dwarves. Despite the lighter tone in contrast with LOTR, there's nothing corny about The Hobbit. Upon finishing Tolkien's original classic, a person can't help being curious about Tolkien's masterpiece, LOTR. Besides, to feel the full grasp of LOTR, it is essential to read about Bilbo's quest first. Read and enjoy this classic, you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Very close to Five Stars Review: I always think of The Hobbit as the forgotton classic, as it very much lives in the shadow of Lord of the Rings. Yet The Hobbit deserves almost as much praise as that most incredible of adventures. Not only that but it is vital that The Hobbit is read prior to tackling Lord of the Rings, as it is really the first book of four not the pre-cursor to the trilogy. Having said that though, it is also improtant to note that The Hobbit does have a very different feel to it when compared to Lord of the Rings. This tale is far more light-hearted and filled more with boyhood dreams of adventure. Lord of the Rings on the other hand is a story of war that centres around the ring of power owned now by the Baggins'. The Hobbit is a must read for any Fantasy fan.
Rating: Summary: Most intriguing and wonderful. Review: This book is about a hobbit (obviously) who reluctantly agrees to join a (group) of dwarfs who are travelling to the Lonely Mountain to re-claim their gold and jewels that were stolen by the dragon, Smaug. I have found this book most interesting and reccomend it to readers of medium to advanced reading levels, but I also believe that most other people can explore it, at least, to expand their horizons. I, personally, have read it at least four times and am now working on the rest of the series.
Rating: Summary: Horrible! Review: This is such a horrible book. There is no action and Bilbo Baggins is the biggest a$$ in a fantasy novel ever.
Rating: Summary: Above average Review: I thought that "The Hobbit" had a very good story line, but at times it was very slow-moving and dull. I thought that many things that should have been described more were given inadequate descriptions, and things that were less crucial to the story were drawn out. One example of this is the fact that the walk through Mirkwood lasted longer than some books, and only parts of this were vital to the story. Overall, though, this is a very good book and deserves the praise that many give it. I would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Hobbit Review: The hobbit is undoubtly one the best fantasy/sci fi books ever written. The main character is Bilbo. He and his shall we say company of dwarves set out on a remarkable adventure that includes battles with humans, disappearing elves, trolls, dragons, and even giant spiders. This book is a must have for any reader of any age.
