Summary: Magic at your Fingertips
Review: Before Robert Jordan conceived his Wheel of Time, or Harry Potter entered his first Quidditch Match, there was "The Hobbit." This charming and magical fantasy is the simple story of a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who begins the adventure of a lifetime accompanying a group of dwarves. Their destination is the Lonely Mountain, in which lies the dwarves stolen fortune, guarded by a horrible dragon named Smaug. How easy is was to lose yourself in this world for awhile. I kept thinking about it every time I put the book down. It also wonderfully sets up the Lord of the Rings trilogy that includes two of the characters from "The Hobbit." If you've never read this book like I hadn't, and are a big fan of either Harry Potter or the Robert Jordan books, you owe it to yourself to read this. It's great!

Summary: my mistake
Review: I was terribly rash in writing my last review and I have now realized the error of my ways. Indeed it was not Tolkien at fault, it was me. In a haze of righteous fury I unthinkingly lashed out at one of the most prominent masterpieces of our time; forgive me. To learn more about me, click HERE.

Post Script: On a more serious note, the book stinks, do yourself a favor and burn any and all copies in your possesion.

Summary: There and Back Again -- A Review
Review: The characters in Tolkien's story are lively and likeable as well as realistic in regards to personality and traits. The story telling is fantastic and detailed. Tolkien talks through third person, but uses the character Bilbo Baggins as a conveyor for the story line. The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien is a story I would recommend to anyone, whether fantasy fiction is their gig or not.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit. He belongs to a quiet folk who enjoy a good meal to eat and a pipe to smoke. As Bilbo is doing just this one morning, an old acquaintance who happens to be a wizard named Gandalf comes calling. Gandalf brings with him a band of dwarves who seem to have no where else to stay, and Bilbo can only be hospitable. The dwarves, led by an "enormously important dwarf" named Thorin Oakenshield, impose upon Bilbo, invading his home and eating his food, but in turn offering jovial company, great stories and song singing. Soon, however, the dwarves reveal their purpose for their unexpected visit. They wish for Bilbo to accompany them on their treasure hunt . . .

I charish this novel for several reasons. One reason I enjoy this story so much is because there is no beating around the bush; everything is "one-two-three go". There is no long introduction in the story's beginning that will take sense away from the story if you do not read it, like in many fantasy novels. I also enjoy the way Tolkien writes verse and poetry and riddles into his story. When the dwarves come to Bilbo's home, they sing songs about treasure. While on the road, elves are overheard singing as they travel through the forest, as well as goblins. Later, when Bilbo encounters the infamous Gollum, they exchange several riddles. Tolkien is a talented poet as well as a story teller. Most of all, however, I enjoy the quaint humor and almost over-abundant common sense of Mr. Baggins. He is a delightful character to read, and he makes Tolkien's novel a gem to be treasured.

Summary: Incredible!!
Review: The story the Hobbit is completely unforgetable. The story is thrilling from begining till the end. Took me less than a week to finish i couldn't put it down. The Hobbit is about a Hobbit named Bilbo and his adventures over time. This book is truely amazing. I've read three times already and plan to read it again VERY SOON!! If you loved the Hobbit read the Lord of the Rings. ( There is a movie coming out this winter on the Fellow Ship of the Ring I've seen a review on this movie and looks spectacular it is a must see!!)

Summary: The epitemy of Fantasy
Review: This "book" is a travesty to everything ever written. Swoar, lil' fools wack for REALL. J.R.R. Tolkien is clearly a man of minimal intellect and an insufficient grasp on what a a real novel is composed of. Boy, ain't nuffin' but a playa-hatin scrub!. Summary: The first truly five star book
Review: Masterpiece. A work of Art. A lasting piece down through the ages. How ever you look at this book, it is all those things and more. Most notable is the endurance that this book has, lasting over sixty years and still a favorite of millions, perhaps billions.

The story is that of Mr. Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit. Hobbits are peaceful creatures who live in and around Hobbiton. One day, Bilbo is approached by Gandalf, a wizened wizard who sees Bilbo as a necessary force for the gathering of a party of dwarves bent on revenge and getting back gold stolen from them by Smoag, a nasty dragon. In the midst of this party and all that they encounter upon their journey to the Lonely Mountain (where the treasure of Smoag and Smoag himself lay) they encounter other forces, strange creatures -- some friendly and some very unfriendly. Deadly spiders, Trolls, Goblins, Wolves round out the deadly enemies. Elves, Men, Elrond half-Elvin, Byorn, and dwarves, round out the good guys. And of course, we can't forget Gollum...the dispicable creature within the Misty Mountains whom Bilbo encounters and gains the ultimate power over the lands....the RING! A magic ring that renders it's wearer invisible, but also takes part of the person away (as you learn in later books). But the Ring is mainly a sideline to the main story which is the success of good against evil thanks to a little, nothing of a Hobbit. Even the smallest of creatures can have a monumental impact, is what Mr. Tolkien was trying to tell us I think. That, and don't judge a book by it's cover.

Enjoyable in everyway and a book to pass on to your children and their children. Please read it! It will change you, just as it changed the lands before humankind.

Summary: The Hobbit
Review: The Hobbit was about a little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo and his friends, the Dwarves make many dangerous encounters on a journey to retreive the tresures of the Dwarves ansectors. I enjoyed this book very much. It kind of dragged towards the closure of the book. The creativity the author shows is astounding.I really enjoyed the scene where Bilbo and Gollum have a riddle contest.

Summary: Hobbits are just another type of Elf
Review: I would strongly recommend this book to those who play "Dungeons and Dragons." I honestly don't care which of the 5000 races of little people someone belongs to. This book had a few highly actioned and interresting parts in the book, but overall this book is dull, and Bilbo the main charachter complained most of the time. For instance, there was often a large gap between action scenes. I was really looking up to the death of Smaug, a charachter who's ego was expanded into godlike preportions, died a pitiful death, with hardly any contact with the adventuring gang. And finally, my favorite charachter(Gandalf)left prematurely.

Summary: My Review on the Hobbit
Review: The Hobbit was a story about a little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. He goes on a faraway journey accompanied by thirteen dwarves and a wizard. The purpose of the journey is to find the lost treasure stolen by a fierce dragon named Smaug. Along their journey, Bilbo and the thirteen dwarves go up against Goblins, Trolls, Elves, and other wild beings amoung the forest. If you are into stories about journeys and make believe, you should read the Hobbit. I'm not really into these kind of books, but it was pretty good.

Summary: My personal review of The Hobbit
Review: I think the Hobbit was an OK book. It is about a hobbit named Bilbo, who lives a very scheduled life until he meets 13 dwarves and a wizard. Bilbo doesn't like adventures, but his mined is changed after his long journey for a teasure. Bilbo runs into many dangers including a dragon named Smaug, Goblins, Trolls and Wolves. Bilbo makes many friends on his journey and looses friends too. I didn't like the ending to Smaug. They made him such a big character, but he dies so quickly. If you like adventerus books I would suggest the Hobbit.
