Rating: Summary: READ IT! Review: Don't miss this classic book!!!! Plz
Rating: Summary: A golden classic everyone will enjoy! Review: Tolkein mananges to create a wonderfully enchanting and enthralling world of mystical creatures and magic that no one could resist. Even before I could read, I was hearing about Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and all the dwarves in between. My father is a big "great works of literature" fanatic. Maybe I'll get him to write a review on his big college paper topic: the relation of the cultural atmosphere and names included in many of Tolkein's writing to the ancient Anglo-Saxon times. It's actually quite interesting, if you like that sort of thing. The prelude "The Hobbit" is as good a read as the trilogy "The Lord of The Rings" that follows. I definitely recommend this book
Rating: Summary: This was one of the best books that I have ever read. Review: I thought that The Hobbit was a very good book. It had a lot of Characterization and Depiction. The part where Bilbo joined the fight at the end of the book was the best part. I wish that he didn't get knocked out so I could know what happened.
Rating: Summary: SUPERB! Review: I think The Hobbit is one of the best books ever written (which of course stands with The Lord Of The Rings)! In which Tolkien tells of a Hobbit of the rich kind. Marvelous adventures and chapters so cleverly named! An anchantment indeed! I give it 2 thumbs (and one fuzzy toe) STRAIGHT UP!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: ah, it was ok, pretty good actually Review: unlike some, i didn't give teh hobbit 5 stars becuase TOlken completey skipped the entire battle that the entire novel led up to. howerever, on a positive note, Golium was the best character in the novel by far. According to one of my chums, golium is presesnt in a lot of lord of the rings. I love the riddles!
Rating: Summary: Founder for A better society for books like the hobbit Review: Despite me seeing the movie. Before the book,In this case I would say the book is better. It is so imaginative and descriptive.
Rating: Summary: spectacular novel for all ages. Review: The Hobbit is a book that you can read to yourself or your kids. All ages will enjoy this creative fantasy novel by the famous author of the lord of the rings. The story focuses around a hobbit, mystical creature of Tolkiens Middle Earth, named Bilbo Bagins. Bilbo goes on an adventure with a bunch of dwarves and a wizard. Along the way he finds a special treasure that helps him on his adventure. The company goes through all kinds of complications from being captured by goblins to being lost in the woods. A definte must read for adults and kids alike.
Rating: Summary: Truly awesome! Review: I was amazed at how one person could think of something so intricate, speaking of the whole vision of Middle-Earth. I really felt like he was telling the story in person. I was disappointed when this book (or any of the Lord of the Rings) was not considered one of the 100 best books of the 20th century. It certaintly must be one of most influential. For anyone seeking excitement, you have got to read this book! I found myself gasping in several places.
Rating: Summary: I was completely against fantasy until The Hobbit. Review: I was completely set against fantasy of any kind until I was forced to read the Hobbit for school. I was utterly enrapt from the first page. Enthralled by the sheer genious and subtley of the novel I was compelled to salvage any vacant time by filling it with the adventures of what at first seemed and inapt hero. The sublimity and profound metaphorical meaning are woven with perilous happenings to create a tapesty comperable to such literary feats as a Tale of Two Cities and Siddhartha. I thought it impossible for a writer to render me so unable to set a book down as much as Dumas until I read Tolkien. I never would have believed this novel to be so meaningful before. This book truly astounded me and I, who was so reluctant to even try fantasy, was close to tears when I finished the book and will treat fantasy with alacrity where it was once met with scorn. If you have not read this book I adamently reccomend it to you even if this not your preffered genre.
Rating: Summary: Good read Review: Tra-la-la-lalley go back to the valley: I love how while reading the book someone will suddenly break out into song.
