Review: It is so nice that this book is bringing a controversy that never ended to our attention again!! Major scholars are also backing this up!! Richard Rubenstein, a Rhodes scholar AND professor of conflict resolution SPECIALIZING IN RELIGIOUS CONFLICT, in WHEN JESUS BECAME GOD, "With vivid detail and meticulous research recreates the political intrigue, riots, and power struggles of one of the most critical moments in history - one with startling parallels to our own time." This CONTINUING STRUGGLE split the eastern and western church YEARS LATER and is playing out today, thanks to books like Dan Brown's.

Review: It's been several years since I really sat down to read a book that wasn't strictly educational. I've never had the urge or time to read pure fiction. The DaVinci Code combines the best of both worlds. I was absolutely fascinated by the facts uncovered in this book and it has made me a born-again reader. I have since spent countless hours on the internet researching facts from Dan's book and according to others, they are right on the money. I will say this, the book is not for devoted (or closed-minded) Christians. Simply because many people refuse to believe anything besides what they have been told their entire life. I was shocked and amazed...
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: best book you ever read?? Review: I suppose if you have read 2 books in your life, one was the Da Vinci Code and the other one was, I dunno, let's say Nancy Drew and the Hidden Decoder Ring, well then I guess DVC might be the best book that you have ever read.Sorry to sound so condescending, but Dan Brown started it. The Da Vinci Code is juvenile level writing. At least Carolyn Keene never pretended to be anything more than pure pulp entertainment for the preteen set. If you are under the age of 13 or have nostagia for the days when a good mystery required minimal brain effort, then this Code's for you.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: You Must Be Kidding Review: THIS is the book everyone's talking about? You're kidding me. I've read at least a dozen mystery/thrillers this year better than THE DA VINCI CODE. The plot - about a religious sect seeking to keep an ancient secret hidden - comes right out of a Saturday morning cartoon. And the characters are about as believable as an honest politician. I saw where the story was going from the first couple of chapters - most intelligent readers will too. It just goes to show you that popularity isn't everything. Antelope Jones
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: DaVinci Cold.... Review: As a mystery novel, The DaVinci Code is less than thrilling. If you can't figure out the bad guy, his motivation, and break the codes yourself long before the hero does, then you probably haven't read too many mysteries. The hero, Robert Langdon, is every bit as blah and undistinguished as his name, and the heroine, Sophie Neveu, is equally colorless. I did find it a hoot, though, that Sophie actually happened to be the code-breaking estranged granddaughter of the book's first murder victim, around whom the plot centers. I mean...how conveeeeeeeeeeenient for popular scholar Langdon; she can figure out what he can't, and vice versa! (What are the odds?) They are reminiscent of undeveloped pulp fiction characters who exist only to move the plot along. Like short-lived moths they flutter around doing their mercifully brief thing in this book. So don't read this book expecting to find the mystery-solver(s) as much a part of the entertainment as they mystery itself. They are not even as interesting as the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. Now on to the controversial plot...well, if you're an devotee of alternative history books, you should find this just as indigestible as readers to whom this is new. You'll also be hooting at the supposedly inside joke of the murdered Louvre curator being named Sauniere; others won't get it. Hey, did you know Walt Disney was a pagan feminist whose life work is coded with goddess references? Me either. Dan Brown makes use of much research that has gone before him: if I were one of the authors whose work he uses without credit (he mentions HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL and a few other titles, but doesn't even give the authors' names) for his own plot, I'd be extremely ticked off. This is a novel that needs a bibliography. "History is written by the winners," another unattributed quote from the DaVinci Code. I would say that history is also written by pop bestsellers.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book is truly astounding. Review: It manages to explain the meanings behind so many things in our culture and life and completely rewrite the christian religion in the process. It's just amazing. He's taken essentially a massive amount of historical research and groundbreaking revelations and wrapped it around a very fast moving and exciting 'fictional' plot which keeps you going for more. I read the book in two days I was so amazed by it. The author is a genious.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: a page turner, thriller, mystery -- but poor history Review: I enjoyed this book immensely. I found myself thinking Ludlum in places and Agatha Christie in others. The plot starts with a bang and twists and turns all the way to the very end. Da Vinci Code is a very engaging mystery. And, the mystery can only be solved by following a trail of clues involving very interesting history. An outstanding idea!! From art (Da Vinci!!) to the Catholic Church, the trail winds, twists and surprises. However, I would have enjoyed Da Vinci Code a good deal more if that history had not been so distorted. Brown uses real events. But, he often gives less than accurate -- to state it kindly -- accounts of the events. For example, the account given of the Council of Nicea is ludicisously inaccurate. The Council of Nicea is well documented and bears no resemblance to Brown's tale. Brown's distorted history took a great deal of the fun out of the story. The Catholic Church has plenty to choose from when it comes to embarrasing history. With so much to choose from -- why make things up? Perhaps his changes to history are just one more puzzle to be solved in the Da Vinci Code. Now, wouldn't that be a cool twist!! I gave this 3 stars because it is an excellent and engaging 5 star read but, only a 1 star history.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The best book I have ever read Review: I am a 14 year old kid , and I can definatley say that the Davinci Code by Dan Brown is the best book that I have ever read. It beats anything by Grsham, Ludlum , or Cook. This book dives into its plot when symbologist Robert Langdon recieves and urgent phone call in the middle of the night. He is told to come to the Luve museum in Paris to investigate a murder. From there he meets a mysterious young women named Sophie Neveu , and from there they investigate the crime commited at the Lueve and a seceret that has been hidden for thousands of years. By reading this review , I know that you do not get the best picture of the book , but I am telling you , you will not fully understand how amazing this novel is until you actually pick it up yourselves. I highly recomend tis book to anyone os any age that loves a great read , I hope that this review was helpful to you.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Disappointing Review: Any book I really like has to have a great start that gets me in to the book, an interesting story, and then I'm hooked. I basically get annoyed to have all that, and then a dud ending. This book is so interesting all the way through and then - DUD! It doesn't just have a weak ending, it has an ending that seems to be for an entirely different book. I was left wondering why I spent the time. Skip it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: If you like art, history and suspense... Review: This book was captivating. I couldn't put it down. I have always been a fan of art, and historical fact and religious misgivings...and this book delivers all of this and more. The secrets uncovered are startling because this could all be true. The chapters are short and well placed events keep you intrigued. In fact, as soon as a finished The DaVinci Code, I ran out to get the other book with the same character, Angels and Demons. It is just as good! So never fear, even when you get sad that there is no more DaVinci Code to read, Dan Brown will give you more opportunities to envelope yourself in the chaos that is his artistry. GET THIS BOOK!!! You will not regret it.
