Summary: Too Much Fiction and Not Enough Truths
Review: As the US monetary system prints more and more money so the US economy is not buried alive, more and more people are finding their way into the non-productive sector of our economy. This is where the printed money is going. With this trend, being emtertained by "big money" entertainers has become more important than seeking big truths. Holy Blood Holy Grail,The da Vinci Code, etc. do not deserve the time and money of the people of the USA. These books do not seek those truth levels that are consistent with the continued development of the minds of our citizens. And, this development of our minds must continue if we want to keep our nation. We need more truth-seeking scientists and mathematicians, not more entertainers.

Jesus Christ was a divine inventor. We are not sure how to interpret the teachings of a divine inventor because such teachings are completely new and infinitely turbulent. Interpreting Jesus literally is misleading. Jesus describes the new powers of His teachings with the metaphor "living water. (See John 4:14)" I believe that only a handful of truths about Jesus are known today. So, today's fictional books, such as this book on da Vinci, are troublesome for our nation. These secret societies are also troublesome.

Leonardo was also an inventor. But he was not a divine inventor. This is why we can understand his notebooks. He was also a follower of Christ saying, "The man becomes happy who follows Christ." (See Vol. II, page 463 of "The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci" by Jean Paul Richter, Dove Publications).

This book does not deal with truths at the level I want. Nor is the book at the level needed by our new generations.

Summary: Almost didn't finish it.
Review: Wow, that was painful. This book had such high aclaim, I felt obligated to finish it, assuming that it would eventally get better. I admit the beginning of this novel was intriguing, but there was just too many details about the Bible and the lost pages. After having to read Brown repeat himself about the keystone over and over, I felt like I was going through a slow death. The reason why I gave three stars was for the character development. I enjoyed the individual characters (with the exception of Sophie--who was flat) and their independent personalities.

Summary: The Scooby Doo Code
Review: Huge bestseller, interesting subject matter, a quick read, yet still a tremendous waste of time. I'm not troubled with the inaccuracies in the book, it is fiction after all... What troubles me is how poorly written the book is. The author lacks any hint of gift with the written word. The writing has an irritating, smug tone and exceptionally grating tongue-in-cheek dialogue. This author's prose is reminiscent of, and has all the sophistication of the narration from Ed Wood's movies.

Any real mystery or intrigue in the book is coincidental, inherent in the subject matter but missing from the story. The author wraps an absurd plot in sophomoric characters and childish puzzles. The characters repeatedly struggle with riddles that would make Encyclopedia Brown chortle, and that every reader has easily solved.

The DaVinci Code is like a children's book distillation of Umberto Eco's work... A poor man's Foucault's Pendulum or Baudolino.

Summary: Interesting fact and fiction combo
Review: I actually enjoyed this book, unlike some others. The most interesting aspect of it was the discussion about the Golden Section with regards to math and the Fibonicci Series, and the ideas about the Priory of Sion. Some of what Brown says is true, while other ideas are way off the mark. I spent a great deal of time just going back and researching what was accurate and what was not. Did anyone read the article in the NY Times a while back about how the entire Priory of Sion phenomenon was a fake? Very interesting.

Also enjoyed the use of anagrams in the book, although I thought some of them were a little too obvious. The anagrams and hidden messages reminded me of another book, BARK OF THE DOGWOOD by McCrae. In it, he uses anagrams and symbols, but most of them are not explained right up front as they are in DA VINCI CODE. In "Dogwood" you have to look for them and only know about them because of a reference toward the end of the book.

At any rate, I would recommend DA VINCI CODE and another very similar book, ANGELS & DEMONS. I actually liked ANGELS & DEMONS much better as I thought the writing was more sophisticated and the pacing better. But read them both and decide for yourself.

Also recommended; McCrae's BARK OF THE DOGWOOD and ANGELS & DEMONS

Summary: Suspend belief, people! It's a fun book!
Review: Reading some of the reviews, I am taken aback at how seriously some people are taking this book. Dan Brown says he poured a ton of research in the book. Critics say the book is a bunch of malarkey.

Personally, what matters to me is that I finished the whole thing in less than a day. I can't think of another book that I've read recently that really captured my interest more than this one. The chapters are short and always end in cliffhangers. The story is filled with, if not truth, at least INTRIGUE. The mere fact that this book has been so controversial makes you want to get into it even more.

In short, this book is just FUN to read! Even if it is a BIT of a stretch and the characters seem to be grasping for anything that even remotely ties into their theories (anagrams and all), it makes the story interesting. For a work of FICTION, people, THAT is what I think matters in the end.

Summary: Should I REVIEW THE NOVEL?
Review: OK I admit it, I'm dumb as a rock! I blame it on my utter unwillingness to do anything more than drive my SUV to the mall while talking on my cell phone after watching TV all day.

I firmly believe that Dan Brown intended to subvert the Christian masses with his impeccably researched book of pure fact that cannot be challenged by the greatest historians of any age. This book, no let's refer to it as a Bible from now on, this Bible, who's content may not be called into question, should be taught along side the creation theory in all school across the US. Which by the way is ruled by the superior intelligence of our greatest of all Presidents George W. Bush A.K.A. God mark II.

Do not question my authority and my God given power to judge all others as scum. I am next in line to rule the earth after God mark II is done with it. Though there won't be anything left I will still have my copy of the Jebus Bible in one hand and the Dan Brown Bible in the other.

So it is written so it is done.

Summary: Not Very Clever
Review: When you are used to reading material by Frederick Fosythe or Tom Clancy, this was really a sophomoric book by comparison. Yeah, the research was there, but I figured out most of the clues before they were revealed.

Summary: People from NJ know how to read???
Review: JS, I know how much it hurts to think you have a brain too big for your skull. Move away from Jersey as soon as possible and the swelling will subside. In the mean time, try not to be such a hypocrite when you submit reviews here at Amazon. Life is too short to take personal offense to an abolute strangers review.

The Da Vinci Code is nothing more than fluff for the masses. The reviwer satan is correct in suggesting that it's benefit lay in generating interest to further educate one's self. Like Harry Potter it's at least getting people to put down their remote controls and read!

Summary: This book reaches out and grabs you!
Review: Dan Brown pulls you right into this story from the start! I couldn't put it down and read it in one night!

What people seem to be forgetting about this book - is that it's just a story - it's NOT TRUE!

A GREAT read! One of the best books I've read in a long time!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Bad book - bad reviews
Review: OK ok - I did read the book and I thought it stunk. Poorly written drivel for the masses. Akin to romance novels. A book with nothing to offer to anyone but viewers of reality TV.

And to people like John Sebastian. You really need to learn to direct you anger towards something positive and stop bashing other reviewers. Hypocrites abound @ Amazon.com!
