Rating: Summary: a tornado of a novel Review: A tornado may be formidable and awe-inspiring, but mostly they are brash, messy affairs. This novel is a lot like a tornado. It certainly gets your attention, but then it's mostly sound and fury. Lots of interesting bits of history flying around, gone before you can get a good look at them, and then disappearing into the general chaos. The premise is good, but it plays out in a most disappointing way at the end. Wise old woman scolds men for running after the wrong things, and the reader is left feeling scolded too. Good trick if you can pull it off: set the reader up for something big and them make them feel guilty for wanting it. Except not every reader will fall for it. Finally, the author is (and I've thought about this for a while before decided on this word) stylistically ham handed. There's no rhythm in the prose, and every other sentence is built on the same diagram. Putting her pen down, the reviewer contemplated what to say next. Scanning the dictionary, she found no better way to put it. Contemplating why this novel frustrated her, she finally went to bed.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book for its Genre Review: No this is not "War and Peace." You will not need to put the book down to reflect on its moving prose. HOWEVER, this book thrills and chills. I felt exhausted keeping pace with our hero and his companion as they navigated themselves through a night and a day in Paris, the French countryside and England. In addition, this book also educates or re-educates the reader on the traditional view of Mary Magdalene in the bible. I actually surfed the web after I read the book to learn more about Jesus' supposed marriage-which many scholars support-and the possibility of a line of children. I would recommend this book strongly for those individuals who enjoy the thriller genre. If you are dogmatic in your Christian beliefs or an Art History purist, then this book may not be for you. But if you want a fun, fast read for a few nights, you'll get it with The DaVinci Code.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book. Review: I found this book extremely interesting and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. This book is a great buy and should be added to everyones collection. =)
Rating: Summary: A great vacation read! Review: A friend told me to read this. I noted that Nelson DeMille gave it a great review and I enjoy his books when I am reading my "fun books". It was an excellent vacation read which I devoured in 2 very late nights. I loved the cryptic clues and entanglement with the Catholic church and the "true" life of Christ. The characters were engaging and plot twists were fun. This is not a candidate for any literature prize but it is the best fiction I have read this year, beating Crichton, Lehane and DeMille. I didn't read his other books so I can't say if this is predictable if you have read him before. But if you haven't, pack this one along for a great summer read.
Rating: Summary: Wow...History and Drama! Review: A murder at Louvre museum with more deathly consequences than originally imagined, sets into motion plot upon plot with secrets that may or may not be best if revealed. Who do you trust? That's the question Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu must answer, and this is only the beginning. This book will lead you on a crusade that in the end makes you wonder how far are we willing to extend ourselves to hurt, help or protect another. One thing I loved about this book is that it seemed real. So often books are written where you find yourself saying, "That wouldn't happen" or "Come on, give us (readers) some credit here." Not only was this book entertaining, but I learned things that made me in the end say, "Wow!" It's difficult for me to find many books that cause me to stop and say to others, "You must read this book." One author who comes to mind was Og Mandino. Personally, I enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, and I take my hat off to Dan Brown for this obviously well researched piece of Da Vinci-like work! Vanessa Davis Griggs Author of: Promises Beyond Jordan
Rating: Summary: Fascinating! Review: I had misgivings about buying this novel, but after the first 4-5 pages, I was hooked. This is an absolutely stunning tome of intrigue, riddle solving, cryptic messages, and religious history. Not your bag?? Guess again!! I had to force myself to read this novel slowly, so as not to miss any of the myriad clues needed to solve the mystery.
Rating: Summary: A GOOD READ, BUT............. Review: I agree with most readers that the book was a real page turner. However, most of the plot was predictable and the author should have spent more time in character development. My big disappointment was the end of the book. After 400 plus pages of build-up I felt let down by the weak ending. Mr. Brown should have spent another 50 pages developing a conclusion as exciting as the story.
Rating: Summary: 3 Days of Reading Bliss Review: My Mom got me this book for Easter knowing I'm a fan of Arturo Perez-Reverte, Umberto Eco, and other writers of the "intellectual thriller". A week later, the peanut butter egg is still on the counter, but I've gobbled up the book. Dan Brown has succeeded in creating a rich, exciting, smart thriller more addictive than jelly beans. His characters are tremendously interesting (if a bit cliche), his description of Paris, London and Scotland perfect, and the controversial ideas presented very intriguing. Few thrillers are intellectually stimulating and still very exciting. "The DaVinci Code" succeeds at both.
Rating: Summary: What A Wild Ride Review: I could not wait to turn the page and find out what happens next in this wonderful story. Not only is it a great tale, but it challenges your mind. This is a true puzzle that will keep you guessing until the end. I read this book in one sitting, there was no way I was going to wait another second longer to unravel the truth behind the Da Vinci Code. Brilliant.
Rating: Summary: absolutely the best Review: had given up hope. thought all mysteries had turned into "cozies". Great research, good characters and takes more than an hour to read. Also recommend "Shutter Island". Two in one week, incredible!!
