Summary: Silly puerile premise
Review: Didn't like this book at all. It accepted as fact preposterous notions that have been for the most part totally discredited. If you believe in conspiracies this book may be for you. Whatever you do don't accept all that's written at face value.

Summary: A fast summer read...
Review: Seeing that this work of fiction is just that a work of fiction, it is an extremely enjoyable read. Definitely a page turner from start to finish and was able to finish it in a few sittings. I recommend the book to people who are looking for a fun, fast-paced summer read, not to those looking for the answers to life's major questions and Christianity's role in those questions. Sit back on the lawn chair and enjoy!

Summary: A good book and a responce to other reviews.
Review: I will make little judgment about the historical truth or the spiritual truth of the views presented in this book. It will suffice to say that as a Catholic I find many of the views disturbing but I don't think that neither my faith nor the faith of any Christian should be shaken even if the views espoused in this novel were true.
As for the book... The story line is fast paced and entertaining. Unfortunately the book beats the readers over the head with hints about major plot points (and the main 'mystery' of the novel). Personally I like novels, which give the reader more time to think about the riddles presented before solving them. It would also be nice if the riddles presented in this novel were not so obvious.
But as many people know this book is not so much a mystery as a means to push a philosophical view. As I said I will not pass judgment on these issues; my experience with religious studies (while quite detailed) has not given me adequate base on which to judge the books content. Many reviewers have said that the book lacks an essential historical base and that Brown's research is not apparent, however, he does have an "extensive bibliography" on his web page (according to CNN.com's article "The man who created 'The Da Vinci Code"). I have not had the time or the desire to look over these references; however, he does claim that he spent nearly 2 years researching the book.
There are better mysteries out there and there are better books on this particular view of the Holy Grail. Buy the book for a quick read but avoid it if you are looking for the complexity needed for both philosophy and a good mystery.

Summary: Absolutely wonderful
Review: This is one of the best books I've read and I've read thousands of books. This book combines mystery and murder with history to come up with a book that not only entertains you but educates you. It is an excellant book for discussion and debate because of the topic of the book. It is an eye opener for many, religious or not, and had me running to the computer to look at the art discussed in the book. I was amazed to discover that I not only was what he described actually in the paintings but that I had missed it for so many years. A wonderful wonderful book. I am definitly going out to buy his other books.

Summary: The Da Vinci Code
Review: I am about one third into this book, and I am enjoying it tremendously. I have studied art history extensively and would like to comment on Leonardo Da Vinci's name. Leonardo Da Vinci is known both as Leonardo and Da Vinci. Especially in Europe he is known as Da Vinci. I will write more as I finish the book.

Summary: Overall a pretty good read
Review: This book actually reminds me of Jurassic Park, and other books by Michael Crichton. The author really knows his subject (or can fake it well enough to get past a non-expert), and includes enough details to disguise the fact that the entire premise is pretty preposterous. You can't take away from Brown that he wrote a real page-turner...it was suspenseful and the puzzles were fun to try to figure out. Anyone who is interested in art, history, religion, and especially the combination of the three will enjoy it.

Summary: The Da Vinci Code
Review: The story was much better the first time it was written by an author named Lewis Perdue under the title of Daughter of God.
Do yourself a favor and get the original.

Summary: Can't put it down once you start!
Review: After hearing an interesting interview with the author on NPR, I was intrigued by this book. Murder, religion, and art create a fascinating background upon which to build a story. I finished this book in two days, and if I'd had more free time, I'd have finished it in a single day. I hated to put it down, and it was very difficult to find stopping points where I was "satisfied" at least temporarily. The pacing is perfect--the author gives you just enough crumbs to keep you begging for the next one.

My only disappointment was in the ending. After all that buildup of tension, page after page, the ending was less climactic than I had expected it to be, though it was still a reasonably satisfying ending. I will definitely be looking for other books from Dan Brown in the future.

Summary: Pure fun...and a great page turner !
Review: Unlike many readers, I honestly didn't have any problem letting go of history and embracing the fun of this *fictional* story. Dan Brown was not attempting to write a historical document, nor was he trying to rewrite art history. He wrote a mystery, full of suspense and drama. By using commonly known works, Brown makes this story much more accesible to most readers.

I enjoyed this very-readable book...but I also didn't expect it to be documented historical fact. If read with a light heart and a spirit of fiction, this is a terrific read.

Summary: Gripping Page-Turner
Review: Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" is a gripping page-turner. It has the same pace as TV's "24" - a sleuth needs to solve an impossible puzzle in 24 hours.

A museum curator is murdered, but in death leaves clues to a century-old secret. A Harvard expert on religious symbolism and a French detective chase the clues through murder and mayhem. Around each bend we meet multi-dimensional characters - a few on the border of genius and madness.

The plot is creative, yet unpredictable. In addition to enjoyment, the reader gets and education in religious history and symbolism - although quite a bit comes from the author's rich imagination. The language is realistic. The speed is spell-binding. It is a great read and I am exploring Brown's last novel. Enjoy!
