Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Its success is more terrifying than the story Review: Reading this wasn't like getting root canal; it wasn't that painful, Instead, reading it was like experiencing those moments in a dentist's chair with nothing to do except wait for the anaesthetic to seize hold, wait for the dentist to come in, wait with a cotton clump immobilizing your upper lip while a rubber device pries your jaw in place. Your feeling is one of discomfort and boredom, and your dominant wish is simple: "I hope this ends soon."As banal as some "page-turners" may be, this book seems uniquely joyless, without any of the elements that make books special, if not magical: insight, words that act like lyrics, passages that read almost musically. Instead, this book seems frighteningly like the Dick and Jane books:it's not just storytelling, it's only storytelling. Pure plot and nothing more. Is that what fiction has come to? Heaven help us! And who has ten hours to waste on something like this, something that suggests what one reviewer said of the movie The Passenger: If sheer vacuity had weight, one could crush an ox by dropping on him this book. Of course, this screed seems to assume this is a book. In all likelihood, it isn't; it's the outline for a screen play from which Mr. Brown hoped and prayed he reap at least $3 million so he could avoid the one task he dislikes: writing.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Does it really matter . . . Review: . . . if you give this book a one star review and venomous criticism? Clearly, Mr. Brown, whether you like it or not, has tapped into a hot-button topic with this story; the book has sold millions of copies and will surely be remembered as one of the top-selling novels of the decade. For all the naysayers out there--this is fact, whether you like it or not. If you can write so much better than Mr. Brown (and I would hope that you can, as you seem to be such insightful critics), write your own book, sell a few million copies, and shut up. Nuff said.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: reviewers need facts Review: Seth Franzman's statement: In the end this book is a great fascinating tale of suspense, but it is a fictional book. Lots of people including ABC news have been duped into beleiving this book has 'truth' to it when it is based on NO EVIDENCE whatsoever. The bible and Josephus are the only documents that speak of the life of Jesus. In neither work is Mary magdelane spoken of as a wife of Jesus. In no place is mary magdelane not a prostitute. The bible is clear on this. If you dont beleive the biblet hats fine, but you cant just make up history whern no text or evidence exists. Response: 1) There are many more documents that speak of the life of Jesus. Since you mention Josephus, I assume you're also including documents outside what is considered Christian canon. 2) Mary Magdalene is *never* spoken of as a prostitute. She had seven demons driven from her. It was another Mary who was a prosititute. It's church tradition that casts Magdalene in the role of a prostitute (the theory is that one of the Popes wanted to consolidate the Marys). I challenge you to find one instance in which Mary Magdalene is called a prostitute. My point is, before all these one star reviewers go around challenging the "facts" in this fictional book (should be a moot point, right?), perhaps they should check the facts themselves.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The DaVinci Code--A Different View Review: First of all, let me say GREAT BOOK! I could never imagine finding such a great novel to read in my spare time. It was full of intrigue, and mystery. Something that we all must agree, is hard to find these days. It creates a different point of view within the reader. It opens your mind. No longer will you look at religion the same way. However, only read this if your faith is firmly grounded. It really does make think and wonder about the truth of religion, more specifically, Christianity. The codes within the book, dealing with DaVinci and the arts, are that, that give the book its title. These codes and theories are some that give the plot such depth and understanding. Its definitly a reading for those that enjoy a reading on a higher level, one that transcends all tradition. READ IT!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Da Vinci Load Review: This book is a great suspence conspiracy type novel written with great talent and imagination. Too much. I'm not sure if the Author is losing his grip between fact and fiction as I saw him on TV the other day talking about his book like it was truth. The fact that Da Vinci painted Mary Magdalene at his last supper painting, doesn't mean he was married to her. Da Vinci wasn't walking the earth at the same time Jesus was alive. What gives people the Idea that Da Vinci has some inside knowledge on the life of Jesus. What a stretch, eh? So, despite the book being a load, it's a well written one. I'll give him that. I also want to recommend the book, The Little Guide To Happiness. It's a tiny cute little thing, but I thought it worth mentioning
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Raises questions that make you think... Review: What if the stuff in the book were true? Are we being cheated out of part of the Bible? Really awesome book.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Awkward and Uneven Review: There's no arguing that books on and about Da Vinci's hidden clues and Knights Templer are not only very pertinent but very compelling as well. Dan Brown's approach to the subject is via a story line which is stilted and awkward. Sadly, The Da Vinci Code's disjointed narrative detracts from Brown's great personal wealth of knowledge on the subjects. Author Brown would have been far better served to have written a direct treatise on the facts as they exist rather than try to string them all together via a plot line which, for the most part, was trite and forced. But hey, he's a published author and I'm not.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Remember: This is FICTION Review: Good plot. Easy, interesting read. However, keep in mind, that the "facts" presented here about Jesus are not new nor have they ever been proven. But that's the great thing about conspiracy theories isn't it? The lack of real evidence is only more proof of a cover-up!
