Review: The Ivan R. Dee Guide to Plays and Playwrights gives you the chatty lowdown in a nutshell on over 500 past and present international playwrights. Entries are arranged alphabetically by name and include their major plays, of course, as well as cross-references to find plays with similar topics.

As with any resource, there are questions of who to include and who to leave out. It does not include Jane Martin or Pulitzer winner Suzan-Lori Parks, but does have camp queen Charles Busch! As it was published in the U.K., perhaps it reflects more British interests. However, it is inexpensive, informative and fun to read. No other theatre reference tells you who's hot or not and why.
