Rating: Summary: Straight to the point with a little humor Review: Excellent book! I'm not familiar with Photoshop Elements but I am enjoying learning now that I have this book. Scott keeps it simple and shows you step by step exactly what to do. Now I can fix problem photos, edit and make my old photos better and enjoy doing it. Scott...thanks much!
Rating: Summary: Great for Photographers Review: I have been a photographer's assistant for many years. For the last few years, I have ventured out on my own. For Christmas, my husband bought me my first professional digital camera. I was so excited. The possibilities are endless with digital photography. The only problem is that you must know how to use Photoshop. I spent many hours in front of my computer cursing it because I could not figure the program out. In a last ditch effort to understand, I purchased Photoshop Elements, hoping that it would be an easier version of Photoshop and therefore easier to understand. I was wrong. Still frustrated, I purchased this book. BEING A MAC USER, I was a little apperhensive because I read that this book is only for Windows users. Well, I only have one thing to say, QUIT YOUR WHINING, MAC USERS. I had NO PROBLEM adapting the Windows commands to my Mac. This book is so easy to use that I purchased the next book - Photoshop Elements 3 Down & Dirty Tricks. These are the best books I have ever purchased - easy to use for any knowledge level. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to make their beautiful picures incredible!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: I purchased this book and the effort put forth by the adobe team (The "photoshop Elements 3.0 workbook"). This was an impulse decision to purchase the adobe book, I planned on purchasing Scott Kelby's book only. In comparision, Adobe should have hired Scott to write their book. Adobe's book was very poorly written. It reminded me of horribly written classroom books with hideous examples. I know it is a classroom book, but its one that should never enter a class room. Scotts book is fabulous. Written in a very engaing manor. He lays out all the important elements to learn with this software and mixes some humor in there as well. I feel the need to mention the following fact, this is one Adobe apparently failed to consider: Scott Kelby uses interesting examples laid out in steps that are very conducive to learning! Hands down great book, no, no, Hands down the Book for Elements, period. I'll give you the option, purchase "The Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photograpers" by Scoot Kelby for a very interesting and informative learning tool, one that you will continue to use over and over again as a reference or buy Adobe's book, for a very dry written, mundane headache you will not even finish reading.
Rating: Summary: buy it else where Review: if you buy it at barnes and nobles it come with a free instruction dvd..not at amazon.com
Rating: Summary: GOOD EVEN FOR AMATEURS LIKE ME Review: Mr. Kelby's book has made it simple for even Amateur digital photographers like myself to take, edit and produce gorgeous digital pictures and manipulate and store those pictures in endless ways. I'll admit that I've not read the entire book so far. As Kelby states, it's a "jump-in-anywhere" book as opposed to a "build-on-what-you-learned-in-other-chapters" type of book. And that is just what I've done is to jump to the chapters that I was most interested in reading about such as photographic Special Effects, Color Correction, organizing, and cropping and resizing as these are the things I do most frequently.
Kelby has a straightforward writing style that is unobscured by miscellaneous chatter. Intermediate or advanced Photoshop Elements users may find this book a little too elementary, although it is full of instructions on almost every PSElements 3 feature. Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers is an excellent resource to help digital photographer enthusiasts create the best possible images. While written more for beginning to intermediate level users, any PSElements 3 and digital camera owner will find this book a useful and handy reference.
Rating: Summary: My least favorite computer book ever Review: Nowhere on the cover does it say that this book is for Windows only. Whole chapters do not apply to Macintosh, and what few suggestions there are for compensating are really lame. But what I REALLY can't stand is the way the book is written. Its author apparently thinks he's the funniest guy on the planet. Nearly every sentence has some stupid joke or smarmy comment. If you want quick information about how to do things in PS Elements 3, this is not your book. In its favor, it's well organized and has lots of good tips, but you have to be willing to slog through way too much self-indulgent and annoying posturing by the author.
Rating: Summary: Frustrating; not for Mac Review: The author said that with a few translations of keystrokes one could use Mac and this book. Not so easy...
This is frustrating, because I'm not sure what other book might actually teach the Mac version of version 3. There are a lot of very specific techniques in this book, and it's not a bad reference, but it certainly left this Mac user very frustrated and looking for another source.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for Windows users! Review: This is an excellent book for users who are not already familiar with Photoshop Elements. Scott Kelby has written a problem/fix oriented book that will help all users, even those who already know Elements, to fix problem photos and make good photos even better.
Rating: Summary: You can't go wrong Review: This is one of the best books I bought. I had a basic knowledge of Photoshop elemnet, this book took it to the next level. Easy to read, well organized and full of photos step by step. I stongly recommend it to all levels of users. It is 13 chapters and I'm in chapter 8. I was able to do things with my photos that I thought are very hard to do. The auther's writting is full of humer, so you will not get bored with all the technical terms. There is one thing, I found that during the excersizes I trip onto a botton or two not covered. They might be for a different subjet, so I click on them and discover another new thing. I guess 300 plus of pages are not enough ;-)
Rating: Summary: Good price Review: Used a Christmas gift card at a local bookstore and picked up this book; price printed on back cover, $44.99 (yes, I "paid" it). I'm an experienced amateur but love the step-by-step instructions, plus the before & after shots. Now that I see the online price of $20.99, I wish I had used the card for something else & bought this on Amazon ;-)
